Re: Lets get Delonte back/!
Delonte was keeping the Cavs in that game last night...Delonte is light years ahead of Eddie House because when his shot is off, he can actually do other things, like posting up and playing solid defense.
The problem with Delonte is the mental aspect. He gets depressed when he's not starting, and there'd be no room for him in the starting lineup here. I'd love to have his game off the bench, but he just doesn't have the mental capacity to do it.

Re: Lets get Delonte back/!
he's one of those awesome 6th men guys, that in order to get the most value out of him you need to have him as a starter. He's a capable PG though for sure... it's like he's going to hurt you there with his ballhandling.
A lesser Kirk Hinrich= West. And only lesser because Kirk has great PG abilities.

I'd like to have West on the Celtics again, but only if we could get him as a free agent. We don't have that many pieces for a trade, and the ones we do have need to fill more pressing needs than what West would fill.
As we would have to trade for him, I'd pass.

I'd rather get Gomes back.
All time favourite Celtics: Bill, Dave C, LARRY, Kevin, X, Reggie, Alla, Toine and Paul.

Re: Lets get Delonte back/!
It's a mistake to pine over anyone on the Cavs. These guys have inflated value because they play with Lebron. C's fans should know better - we had D. West as a starting PG before.
I have alot of issues with West. Most notably his undeserved "good guy" reputation. What I remember most about West is how he pouted when he was on the bench. So how would he fair behind an aging Ray Allen? Or his replacement Rajon Rondo?
C's can save money and headaches by just avoiding the whole issue. We don't need to go down that road again. He is happy as a clam starting with Lebron - having his numbers pumped up by Lebron's greatness and having the Cavs underperform.
It works for me and it works for West. It's not like a decent backup shooting guard is so hard to find - especially when you consider undersized ones..

Re: Lets get Delonte back/!
I think West's value is too high right now. I like him as a player but I'm not sure what we could trade for him. Maybe if the Cavs would swap House for West, plus give em a 2nd rounder or TA or something, that would be ok. But I don't think the Cavs bite.
I don't mind West's pouting, etc, he is a winner and mostly comes up big in big situations. Marbury had a much worse rep and he's been fine. Winning solves a lot of that crap.
Don't sleep on JR for a rotation spot next year. I think TA is on the outs, and JR's got too much talent. Walker could surprise as well, though I think his ceiling is lower.

^You would mind his pouting on this team. Because when he's pouting because he's not starting, he's not effective. If I remember correctly, he was a lousy backup player. No thanks.

Was it the Cavs failure or 24 win season that we had with him that makes him a "winner."? Let's face it winner is just a complement people put on players we like. If Jessica Biel was an athlete I sure she we called a winner as well.
His good guy reputation is largely underserved. He pads his stats at every opportunity and pouts when he comes off the bench. Granted alot of NBA guys do this - but Delonte doesn't deserve his special status around here as a 'winner.' Play with Lebron and not royally suck and you get that rep.
I dislike trading for second tier players on good teams. I think this goes for resigning our players as well. You want to look at guys who aren't 'winners' because the way you get to be a "winner" is by playing with all time greats.
For backup PG Danny needs to look for some value acquistion. I am perfectly comfortable with playing some little known guy at the postion provided he can really play some. I trust Danny to find the guy.
The assests we have need to spent on the more difficult to fill long SF and center positions. Yes I am going against message board wisdom. Contrary to common belief backup PG is easier to fill now then ever. The truth is that there are TON of guys that are around 6' who play basketball. But there aren't alot of guys with James Posey's body type.
Marbury wasn't that great sure. But did anyone think he was the reason why we didn't win the championship? Heck no.. It was the loss of Posey, KG and Powe we really felt..

Re: Lets get Delonte back/!
I'm not a huge fan of West, but given the choice between West and Marbury or House I'd take Delonte anyday. But I agree that we really need to fill the SF and C holes first.
By "winner" I just meant that he seemed to compete even when other guys kind of didn't. Plus he seems to be a guy that, when things are going badly, he tries a little harder. Like in Game 6 against the Magic.
Unfortunately I also think he's a rather poor defender, though I think he is about as good a shooter as Eddie plus he can actually drive and finish at the rim on occasion.

Re: Lets get Delonte back/!
Danny Ainge tried to do a sign-and-trade for D-West last offseason, but Cleveland didn't want to co-operate. I love the kid. Tough as nails, and will always give you 100% effort. Great teammate to have, as anyone who's every played with him speaks highly of him. And last but not least, he's definitely top 5 in the league when it comes to funny interviews. I'd love to have him back in green, but we don't have the assets to trade for him.

I think that was to be a swoop and steal kind of deal to get D. West on the cheap. it was representative of any great love on Ainge's part. Remember he could have likely sent Rondo away instead of D. West..

Re: Lets get Delonte back/!
Ainge would never trade Rondo. Ainge falls in love with certain players. And Rondo is so far is one that has pinned out as a his pick.
That said, Ainge would of traded Rondo if he went the way of Banks. But obvs that wasn't the case, and Ainge saw enough in the limited freshman year campaign of Rondo to say he can start on a Ray,Pierce,KG team.

Re: Lets get Delonte back/!
Not to pimp Delonte too much (i'm really not that huge a fan as some others here), but in Rosen's article blasting LeCrab and the Cavs he specifically calls out one (and only) CLE player who showed toughness and heart all series: DW. That's pretty much what I saw as well. Everyone else slinked off when the Magic stood up to the bully Cavs. Only DWest had Lebron's back.
But that's also probably why the Cavs would never trade him. They'd move Gibson first.

^Actually, he really only showed up in games 5 (as did most of the team), and game 6 mostly in garbage time.

I agree with those that say that Delonte is pretty good. That said, he's not what we need.

Re: Lets get Delonte back/!
Your really using Rosen to back up your point? <g> D. West doesn't have heart either. He is a fake hustle guy. He hustles not to win but to look like a guy who hustles. That's why he always excels is garbage time and hurts himself diving around and such.
Now granted this isn't so bad - at least he hustles. But I think any D. West fan should know him a bit better. The game could be 120 - 80 with his team leading and he would bust his shoulder diving out of bounds or sprint to a spot on the floor for an easy J.
A guy who has heart IMHO is a guy who has some extra something when the chips are down. I would never count on D. West to be that guy. D. West quickly figured out that he doesn't have class of the NBA talent so he tries to make it as a hustle guy. It's worked for him but I prefer the Posey's and Pierces of the world. Guys who step it up when you need it..
