So Cleveland gets the PF they need, Utah gets 3 first rounders and a retired/buy-out Ben Wallace, and Milwaukee gets to dump Gadzuric's contract along with Bell in exchange for their 10th pick in the draft. The Bucks also get a young and talented PF in JJ Hickson.

Fair enough. I didn't know the situation Utah was in with Boozer. Wallace would probably take a buy-out in the $5-10 million range, saving anywhere from $4-9 million. Then 3 first round picks (1 in the Top-10) wouldn't be too bad. This deal would be sort of similar to the one that New Jersey did for Kenyon Martin a few years ago. But if Utah can get something better or would just rather let Boozer walk to Detroit or somewhere else then I can understand completely.

What if Cleveland replaced Wallace with Z? He is still an expiring contract (could net you something good near the trade deadline) and in the meantime he could be a good Center.

If Cleveland offered us Big Ben and crap for AK, we'd at least have to consider it for a minute for financial reasons. I don't think we'd do it or that it would be wise to, but it wouldn't be totally laughable. However, given that, if we wanted to save some money, we could just let Boozer go, we're only going to trade him unless we make a serious gain from a basketball perspective, which we don't with this deal, whether or not Big Ben retires.

I am not trying to be combative but can you explain how you don't gain anything from a basketball perspective in this trade? 3 first round picks, one of which is in the Top-10, is better than nothing if Boozer just walks. The NBA is littered with really quality players that were taken at the end of the 1st or in the 2nd round. Heck, the core of your team (outside of D-Will) consisted of guys taken in the 2nd round/end of the 1st. AK47, Milsap, Okur, and Boozer were all taken late in the draft. If you get 3 picks, one of which is actually 10th overall, you have a decent shot to get at least one really solid rotational player.

Now financially I completely understand. If Big Ben retires then that is one thing but if he doesn't then that is another. But I am sure Utah could negotiate a buy-out that would save a whole bunch of money.

I don't know. I was just trying to find a creative way for Cleveland to get in on the Carlos Boozer sweepstakes.

And if it was Zeke was involved in the deal it would be for a guy in the 2nd year of a massive 6 year contract. Wallace expires after this year, before the ever important 2010 offseason. What impact player is acquiring Wallace preventing you from? How long would it be before you were in the lotto again?

It isn't exactly stellar in this year's draft. We don't want to have three rookies, who usually don't get much play in Sloan's system. This team wants to contend now, not in a few years.

I am sure that there are better deals out there.

I would do this deal but I doubt Cleveland would ever welcome back Boozer and not quite sure but this would definitely cripple Utah in trying to keep Millsap and Memo. There would have to be a 4th team in it to allow Utah to dump part of Big Ben's salary, maybe New Orleans with Tyson Chandler?

A couple of big if's here, but I think that this is doable too.

First, if Wallace will accept a reasonable buyout package. If he does, and the Jazz can basically reroute those $ to sign Millsap, then I think that we're good without going over the cap.
So, the Jazz have lost Boozer (who it will be almost impossible to re-sign him and Millsap) in exchange for the #10 and #30 pick in the draft this year.

A top 10 lottery pick in any year is always a valuable bargaining chip. So, the Jazz could easily trade #20 and #30 to move up to #15-#17, I would imagine.

If that's done, with the #10, the Jazz can draft DeJuan Blair and with a #16, they could probably get Eric Maynor.

So, yes, the Jazz lose some of the offensive punch that comes from Boozer, but a few positive things can happen as a result:

1. Millsap gets the starting PF role, with AK playing PF to back him up 15 mins + a game.

2. The Jazz have a few extra $, depending on Wallace's buyout to spend on a lower-level free agent.

3. The Jazz also have some $ to resign Brewer next year.

New lineup:

DWill, Maynor / Price (in whichever order)
Brewer / Korver ( I'm good either way if he stays or leaves)
AK / Miles / Harpring
Milsap / Blair
Okur / Koufus

I guess if Wallace would accept a buyout for a very small portion of what he's owed, this deal wouldn't be too bad. Still, we have plenty of young players already and this draft is pretty weak, so i'm still not that intrigued. It's not a terrible option, but, if we're trading Boozer, I'd rather get proven players who can help us now.

I would rather let Boozer walk away that pay a buyout to Wallace and get three young players who won't play until Sloan decides to hang it up. If Boozer walks at least we can keep Memo and Milsap.

Whether or not the trade is fair to Utah, I don't see Boozer having ANY interest in going back to Cleveland after the way things ended there the last time.

WTF....are you all out of your mind? This is a terrific deal for the Jazz. Would you be more comfortable letting him go for nothing? We pick up a late first that we can use on a European guy to stash away, a mid lottery pick that can be used to draft a potential contributor this year, a future 1st two years down the road and an expiring contract after this season....how is this not a deal to love?

My question is why the hell Milwaukee would trade the #10 pick just to make a small salary dump?

But for our part, I would do that deal in a milli-second. I am baffled at all these Boozer haters turning their noses up at this much value for a guy that most expect us to lose for nothing.
