Sure, I can see the poetic value, but I disagree so strongly with the message that I have to say something. Those words should have been burnt back then and never repeated again.
I just couldn't ever see how there can be happiness to be gained from witnessing the misery of someone else. Be it a pre-historic barbarian or not, that logic is so flawed and disgusting, it needs to be challenged. You can't write it off as something of the past since some cultures still operate out of primitive thoughts like that today. Pet peeve of mine. Sorry. Back to topic.

Re: 2-3-2 format?
The problem with the format is how Game 6 and Game 7 are played. The road team will have to be a tier or two better than the HCA team to steal one of those games. Problem is, if the road team is better by a mile, then they should have already beaten the HCA team by Game 5 with all the middle three games.
For equally talented teams, the HCA team gets a very big advantage.

Point taken. It was a brutal world back then, no question. You could be living a nice, peaceful existence. Then one day the Mongol hoard or a Roman legion shows up, sacks your city and sells your family off into slavery. Not much has changed much, to be honest. Man was, is and always will be a war-like animal.
I should note, as you can probably figure out on your own, that I'm not trying to glorify the actual acts he's describing, which are obviously heinous. Rather, I admire the utter ruthlessness and single-minded dedication to the job at hand -- the complete and total subjugation of one's enemy. It's an attitude that would serve us well over the next two weeks.
Plus, if you separate the words from reality, I just think it sounds cool.

Re: 2-3-2 format?
it could help or hurt. It usually doesnt make much of a difference imo
it did help the Heat in 2006, a team so much different at home than on the road, and facing an opponent that was the same. Heat got those three games, than had momentum and Dallas reeling going on to finish it off in Dallas.
Lakers are good on the road. I dont beleive Magic homecourt is that good either, living in Orlando and going to some games. As long as Lakers play their game, they shouldnt have too much of an issue in this series imo

Re: 2-3-2 format?
The 2-3-2 format ... have deprived fans of Game 7's
As stated earlier
2-2-1-1-1 has game 7, once every 3 years
2-3-2 has game 7, once every 8 years
Thats a huge difference, huge loss of revenue for the League, theres also a semi-loss for the home team revenue, but the home team tends to be laughing with moe wins
