I would much rather the Cavs go after a solid center than a scoring PF. I want Hickson/Jackson to get increased minutes next season, and someone like Randolph is going to command 30 mpg+. S&T AV to Charlotte for Gerald Wallce, and then throw a portion of the MLE at Gortat.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Re: Z and Ben for Camby and Zach?
The Cavs shouild definitely trade for Zach Randolph
I am a Nets fans but more of a general NBA fan...
The Clippers dont need Randolph because they are going to get Griffin. Thus, they are stuck with his contract through 2011 and more importantly have an overstock of front court players.
The Cavs showed that they need a reliable #2 scorer besides LeBron. Shooters are often too streaky. If the shots don't fall, the Cacs are in trouble. I think varejao should be a 6th man.. energy and defense.. but he shouldnt be a starting PF. Hickson could develop in a few years, but who knows if that will happen.
Realistically, there arent many options for 2009-10 for the Cavs to improve up front. It would be great for LeBron to find a post-up scorer or a Scottie Pippen (easier said than done).
Zach Randolph has his issues and problems. I dont know how good he is on defense (but I think he isnt very good?) But he is a 20/10 guy. He has played on mostly garbage teams. But honestly, perhaps LeBron could challenge him to play well
Randolph's contract is not great but he is signed only to 2011 and again if he helps in the post, I think he is worth it.
So my deal is:
Ben Wallace (or his contract) and the Cavs #1 pick for Zach Randolph
I think the Cavs may have a hard time signing any big name free agent until LeBron commits to a long term deal with the Cavs...

If the Cavs had Camby and Randolph instead of Z and Wallace, then I think the Cavs would have beat Orlando.
Does anyone disagree?

Re: Z and Ben for Camby and Zach?
Does anyone remember when Boozer was here and how good Lebron was in setting him up? Lebron is perhaps the best player in the game at passing the ball inside to big men. His passes are fast, accurate and unexpected by opposing defenses. Unfortunantly he has had no one to work with the last few years. Give him someone with the offensive game of Randolph and the cavs would be nearly unstoppable offensively. I could see Randolph averaging 22/10 on .500 shooting while here, with Lebron averaging 8 or 9 assists a game.
Last year I was opposed to Randolph as everyone else. But its time for this team to take some high risk/high reward actions. Sure if we can walk into a player like Vince Carter I'm all for that, but we won't be getting an all-star player for nothing. Our next best option is going after a damaged goods player like Baron Davis or Randolph.

I say go ahead with Randolph. It's worth a shot. At least he will make Dwight work a little on the defensive end against us. Pair him with Andy and Mo/Delonte when Lebron is getting some rest and we can score and defend the ball in the second and fourth quarters. I say if Lebron thinks it can work then I pull the trigger.
Is Larry Hughes having fun yet?

Re: Z and Ben for Camby and Zach?
From an outsiders perspective I would say its worth a shot. Wallace is virtually useless and while its a slight risk, but the reward is very good. Odds are 2010 will get you a decent player but there are no guarantees. I thought the Cavs trading for Mo Williams last off-season was a wasted, desperate move but that worked out. Don't underestimate the power of LeBron and his ability to foster a healthy locker room atmosphere. If Randolph knows he has a chance to win a championship, he'll grow up.
You want to improve the team this off-season. If you can turn Varajeo into a 3rd big man (like he should be) and West into a 3rd guard (like he should be) you no longer find yourselves playing teams that you can't match up against. Just my 2 cents.

I would make this trade if I was Cleveland. Make this trade and then sign a Gortat or Rasheed.
Zach has always been the man. I think people underrate him because they see him as being the best player. As a number 2 he would look a lot more attractive.

Re: Z and Ben for Camby and Zach?
Been following this closely and there is mixed feedback on Zach no doubt.
The questions I have is would Cavs fans prefer the status quo to remain unchanged as opposed to Zach or Sheed in wine and gold if either could be had for the trade of an expiring (Ben) or the MLE, respectively?
What if these are the two best players available this offseason? Especially if AV does get paid by another team... Do you pull the trigger for ZBo or Sheed and hope for the best or open 09/10 with the guys you have and sit on your hands until the deadline to try and manufacture something around then? I just don't see a lot of other (viable) options, be it via draft or free agency.

W&G said something along the lines of... "It would be LAC managment's wet dream if we showed interest in Randolph."
We arent even looking his way fellas. Not a fit.
