Kendrick Perkins

Post#1 » by U2larkin04 » Tue Jun 2, 2009 2:06 pm

Do you think Kendrick Perkins made himself possibly more well known or feared throughout the league after the Orlando series? Obviously we lost but his efforts against Dwight Howard are obvious after we saw what Cleveland could do against him.. Do you think that series helped him secure his future as our starting center?

His future as a staring center here was never in jeopardy. He is the best big man to man defender in the league. But we knew that already even before ORL series...I guess his play was a surprise for other fans and "experts" however...

If Cleveland had Kendrick Perkins they would be playing the Lakers right now. Perkins stock has risen in NBA people's minds after these playoffs. Perkins play is not a surprise to Celtics fans. Perkins, Rondo & Davis are a good start to the post Big 3 years.

Kendrick Perkins is the best contract extension Ainge ever made ;)

Dwight Howard's stats in this playoffs:

1st Round: PPG: 24.0, FG%: 68.3 %
2nd Round PPG: 16.4 FG%: 54.9 %
Conf Finals: PPG: 25.8 FG%: 65.1 %

He got Perk'ed quite a bit.

The only effect national acclaim has on his role with the Celtics is that in the future he'll be paid more for performing it than he otherwise might have.

Well, recognition might also have small effects such as kinder referees, all-star appearances, etc.

In related news: Selfishly, I'm glad Rondo and Perk are damaging their chances at playing on the national team.

He also averaged 17.1 rpg, which is more than he did in the 1st round or Conference finals.

That's shocking considering we had one player over 6-8 on the roster (if you forget Moore, which I've been trying).

Howard's team had a significant net rebounding disadvantage vs. the Celtics. It had an advantage in the other two rounds.

What does that have to do with anything? With a short front court, it's expected that that would happen. I guess I shouldn't be surprised anymore.

Perkins put himself on the map once Garnett became his teammate. Thanks to Garnett and Clifford Ray, Perkins is a legitimate starting center in the league and arguably one of the best in the eastern conference. And he's only twenty-four. I hope Ainge can keep he and Rondo together seeing as they've become good friends.

Perkins is developing a reputation [or should be] for being a defensive Center. That is his role, that's what he does better, that's his niche in this league. I don't believe he has much of an offensive future unfortunately.

I love Perkins though.

Reputation as a defensive center >>> Reputation as an offensive center

@Netsforce
I really should have typed "scoring" stats just to prevent a rather useless remark about Dwight Howard's rebounding numbers... He clearly outrebounded Perk individually but Boston got the upper hand against in Orlando overall in rebounding. Thanks to Perk blocking out for Rondo and Pierce.
