What price is too much for Millsap?

I think he's worth it, obviously not if they are going to keep Boozer. It would be stupid to sign Boozer for a max deal though if you can have Millsap for half the price.

Utah will match Millsap, as he is by far the cheaper of the two options. I think if Detroit wants a big guy they should go after Boozer. But you won't get him for 8m

i hope Boozer doesn't opt out, and the Pistons can go after Millsap hard, so either you have to pay a lot of luxtax to keep him or let him go, its payback time for stealing Memo!

I think the Jazz are willing to pay for time served at 500,000 per years. Greg seems ready to be a players owner too. He, in the end, may be more outspoken than his father, and less dogmatic.

I wouldn't play more than an average of 6 mil for 5 years for millsap. He just isn't that good.

It's definitely important to realize that Millsap isn't a star, just a really good role player, and to pay him accordingly. However, i have a hard time believing that we're going to be able to keep a young, hard working, still improving big who posted 19 straight double-doubles averaged 14 points, 9 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block per game in spite of coming off the bench for anything less than 8 or 9 million dollars a year. I think he's worth it.

8mil/yr is right around what I think Millsap will get offered, which I think is the max the jazz would match. Personally, I think he's worth around 6mil/yr like others have mentioned, he's a great role player, but nowhere near a star. I look at his double-double streak and then look at how he "wore down" after starting less than 1/2 a season. How would Millsap withstand a whole season AND playoffs as a starter? He's a great role player, so he should be payed as such.

On an abstract level, Millsap might be "worth" 6 million dollars. However, even with the recession, i can almost guarantee that his market value will be considerably higher than that, given that this free-agent class is rather short on big men (with the exception of ours.) Very few people thought that Boozer was really "worth" 11 million dollars a year when we signed him, but we went out and did it and most people thought it was a solid move, which, say what you will about Boozer, it was. I wouldn't be at all surprised if somebody went out on a limb and offered Millsap around 10 mil a year. Is he worth it? Probably not, but i think we'd still have to seriously consider matching, unless Boozer's staying.
Also, I don't put too much stock in the fact that Millsap wore out in the latter part of the season last year. Considering that his role the previous two years was to be a high energy guy for 20 minutes a game, it's not at all surprising that he wore out when his role changed to starting and being a core player for 35 minutes a game. I think he's a hard enough worker and a good enough player to adjust to playing that role permanently in the future.

He needs to be signed by a team under the CAP: Detroit, Oklahoma City, or Memphis. Rumors from the last two indicate that neither is looking to sign him. The best the other teams can offer is the mid level. There is not going to be much competition for him, unless Detroit wants him bad enough to keep the Jazz from matching. the market will set his value as much if not more than his skill level. I just hope we let the market set his price rather than signing him to a too big contract when he is a fine complimentary player not an all star.

Anything over 10 million a year is too much.

How high will the Jazz go?

That's harder to say. I see them matching anything at 9m per or less. I truly do. The Pistons are an interesting case. Imo, they would be crazy to go after Millsap. Jason Maxiel is almost the exact same player, and he is locked in for the next 3 years at a very reasonable level. I think they are foolish to pursue Millsap. The only way that makes sense is if they are doing it in order to occupy the Jazz' cap space in an attempt to then steal Boozer away. If that ends up being the case, they should be very careful about how they do it. They would really hate to make an exorbitant offer to Millsap thinking that the Jazz will match and then end up with an overpaid Millsap and no chance at Boozer to show for it. Really, if they're smart, they should offer the Jazz a straight swap of Prince for AK. That move would benefit both teams and allow AK to return to a more prominent role with a different team.

Overall, I have a hard time seeing Millsap getting more than 5/35. I think that is where the Jazz will begin negotiating.

I wouldn't give him more then 8 millions dollars max. He isn't a go to scoring option, he isn't big enough to defend the true big men in the league, he gives more fouls then he takes, he's prone to disappear.

I have a hard time locking up more then a 10th of my teams salary cap for a guy who does all of the garbage things great, but not of the championship things well.
