Series Thread: Angels @ Jays | June 2-4

Tuesday, June 2 - 7PM
Joe Saunders, LHP (6-3, 3.26) vs. Roy Halladay, RHP (8-1, 2.63)

Scouting Report:
Angels: Saunders tossed 6 2/3 effective innings against the White Sox on Tuesday but pitched in and out of trouble all night. He ended both the third and fourth innings with strikeouts with a runner on third and loaded the bases in the sixth inning. But the damage was done with two solo home runs by Jayson Nix and a bases-loaded single by Paul Konerko in the sixth. In all, he allowed three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Saunders is 1-2 with a 3.62 ERA in four career starts against Blue Jays.

Blue Jays: Halladay gave the Jays seven solid innings in his last start, which came on Wednesday in Baltimore, but recorded a no-decision as the bullpen blew a five-run lead and Toronto lost 12-10 in 11 innings. Halladay gave up three runs in the outing -- all earned -- on eight hits and two walks, striking out five. He pounded the strike zone in typical Halladay fashion, throwing 74 of his 102 pitches for strikes.

Wednesday, June 3 - 7PM
Jered Weaver, RHP (4-2, 2.36) vs. Casey Janssen, RHP (1-1, 4.15)

Scouting Report:
Angels: Weaver was on top of his game again against the White Sox on Wednesday night, lasting eight innings and 103 pitches in holding Chicago to one run on four hits, walking two and striking out eight. Relying on fastball command, a quality breaking ball and an ever-improving changeup, Weaver struck out five of the first nine he faced. Few starters have been as consistent as the cross-firing right-hander, who yielded one or fewer runs in five of his past seven starts. He's 4-1 in five career outings against Toronto with a 3.38 ERA.

Blue Jays: Janssen earned his first win since May 24, 2007 on Friday. In his second start of the season, after missing all of 2008 with a shoulder injury and suffering a setback in Spring Training this year, Janssen went seven innings against the Red Sox at Rogers Centre, giving up three runs, all earned. He allowed 11 hits and two walks and struck out two. He threw 108 pitches -- 67 for strikes -- after tossing only 78 in his season debut, 50 of which were strikes.

Thursday, June 4 - 12:30PM
John Lackey, RHP (1-1, 6.05) vs. Brian Tallet, LHP (3-3, 4.26)

Scouting Report:
Angels: The stamina was there, but Lackey wasn't as precise with his command as he needed to be while surrendering five earned runs on 10 hits in 7 1/3 innings against the Mariners on Friday night at home, absorbing his first loss in four starts since returning from a strained right forearm. Lackey reached 106 but struck out only two men while walking two, indicating his stuff was less than top shelf. He's 3-3 with a 3.39 ERA in 10 career starts against Toronto. At Rogers Centre he's 3-2 with a 3.11 ERA in seven outings.

Blue Jays: Tallet overcame some early problems with command and pitched seven innings against the Red Sox on Saturday at Rogers Centre, earning a win. He walked four batters in the first two innings and gave up three runs -- including a two-run homer by Boston right fielder Rocco Baldelli -- in those two frames. In the third through seventh innings, however, he allowed only two baserunners. He needed 59 pitches (29 strikes) to get through the first and second innings, but only 59 pitches (39 strikes) in the five innings that followed, bringing his pitch tally to a season-high 118. In total, he allowed three runs (all earned) on three hits and four walks, striking out six.

Alright! Let's take this series too. Doc is winning his game, no questions asked. Tallet too.

Weaver and Lackey are like, really good. 2 of 3 is going to be hard.

I don't think I've seen Rod throw out a baserunner that easily all season.

Looks like there's a nice crowd tonight. The place looks full.

Edit: Or at least the outfield looks full.

Come on, let's get some hits.
