Trade Rumor: Stoudemire & Barbosa for Rondo & Ray Allen

Post#1 » by Mr.Monday Night » Wed Jun 3, 2009 1:29 am

This sounds a bit fishy, but I'll post it anyway to see what yalls reaction is on this.. Personally, being a Celtic fan, I'd hate to give up Rondo... But he has the best value now (Did awesome in the postseason, still on rookie contract) and Ray Allen is expiring.. Thoughts?

"Latest rumor out of Phoenix: Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo for Amare Stoudemire, Leandro Barbosa, and the 14th overall pick. Source: sports.ktar.com
Not sure if this is entirely speculation, but it is being talked about (Gambo & Ash) on the radio as I write this. No sources mentioned, so take it as such. They did mention that Boston initiated the proposal, and that the Suns have not made a comment on it as of yet.
On the surface, I don't like the trade. And I think most Celtics fans would feel the same way. On the flip-side, Phoenix fans are calling in, saying that Amare alone is worth Rondo and Allen. My question - where the hell would Perk play? Unless there's more to this, it makes little sense for the C's. However, this is the type of haul that Ray Allen's expiring contract, and another piece or two (not Rondo, by the way), could bring."

This is a joke. Why would we do this? Why would the Celtics even offer this, because it's not even good for them. Hell to the no. Like seriously, what do we do with Nash? Trade him to NY? What do we do with Jason Richardson? ... Just a solid HELL NO from both teams.

As for STAT, Gambo is reporting the Celtics would be willing to part with Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen for Amare, Leandro Barbosa and the Suns' 14th-pick in the draft.

Allen/Tucker?
JR23/Dudley

I don't like it from a Sun perspective on the court. If they wanted to make a move for Rondo, the best player to pair Rondo on the court with would be Stoudemire. I think Rondo would be AMAZING on a run and gun team, but with Amare gone, and Shaq still there, it really seems like the Suns wouldn't fit that mold anymore. As a Celtic fan, I'd love this deal. The C's get younger, deeper up front, and longer. They also get the best player in the deal.

Where this does make sense for the Suns, is that Shaq, Nash, Rondo, Allen all come off the books after next year. That is a lot of dough to make a push for one or more of the studs in the 2010 free agent class. The deal would only leave Richardson making a lot of money, and lest face it, as constructed, this Suns team isn't winning the bog one. Move Richardson for an expiring, and that's a ton of payroll to play with.

Shaq + J-Rich + Bobcats' pick for Ray Ray + Perkins + Scalabrine would make a lot more sense for both teams.

That is a horrible trade for the Suns, no thanks. Sounds like teams trying to drive value down.

I don't believe this, the Celtics are still a 50 + win team with the way they are set up now. Why would they risk that all? As for the Suns I think they want expiring contracts, young talent and draft picks and Rondo is going to want a huge extension while Allen is older and signed to a long term extension. Also if the Suns give Barbosa to that's losing alot.

How about Shaq/J-Rich for Allen, Perkins, Pruitt, and Scalabrine?

Allen + Rondo

for

Stoudemire + fillers

Might be okay.
But with Barbosa?... no. Then you add No.14 and its a landslide disadvantage for Suns.
Allen has regressed a lot and isnt a star anymore, but still a very good player nonetheless.
Rondo is terrific so I think Stoudemire + filler is fair.

This deal makes no sense. If it's true that Boston proposed it, I hope Kerr hung up laughing.

Doesn't make any sense unless BOS thinks they'll be deeper with Perkins on the bench, and the Suns have a deal for a PF - Nash to NY for DLee?

smells off too much BS

I'm not even afraid to say that I've basically had wet dreams about having Ray Allen on the Suns, ever since he was in college. That guy on this team would be absolutely LETHAL.

Imagine having Nash and Ray Allen as our guards. Best SHOOTING backcourt of all time, easily.

So basically it's future franchise player for future franchise player.

If this deal happens, and I think it won't, then let's rebuild now. Shaq for Cavs trash, Jrich for anything, Nash for D.lee.

This would make more sense for us. Though arguably Perkins is a better C for their purposes, he did play great D on the best C in the league.

Rondo's no franchise player. It's debatable that Amare is even one.

All these proposed NY trades, I always have a hard time believing we'll ever do a deal with NY while D'Antoni is there.
