The Phoenix Mercury has already started doing this. Will an NBA team follow suit? the Kings?

I can totally see the Kings having a big PALMS CASINO logo on their jersey somewhere or something like "Skittles, taste the rainbow" under the number

Its coming in the future, European teams have done it for sometime. Not a big fan but its sort of like naming rights of arenas and signage in the outfield, it will grow on you.

Gawd damn it, I hate it in Nascar. Well, actually, I just hate Nascar, but. Can't we have a single aspect of sports that isn't distroyed by marketing?

I could care less, but I hope teams don't change their jersey every year like Chivas Guadalajara does (Mexican soccer)

I guess its probably an inevitable path for almost every sport, but I honestly don't like it.

I think if it did happen it should be only the 1 big sponser on the jersey and the rest can be little patches on the shorts. I do not like how LifeLock took over the Phoenix Mercury name by putting it in the dead center of teir chest.

Do it sort of like NASCAR where the big sponser gets the hood but the little ones get stickers elsewhere.

How does marketing destroy sports? I think it's FANTASTIC as it keeps operating costs(i.e. TICKET SALES) down as other sources of revenue. You can pay peter or you can pay paul here, but ultimately you're still going to pay.

If there was a guarantee that it would go straight towards lower ticket prices, I would have no problem with it. Otherwise, it's pretty annoying.

The fact that ticket prices don't go up as much is virtually the same thing.

Obama not renewing the Bush Tax cuts is the same thing as a tax hike. Adding additional revenue from an additional source, allows a franchise not to have to raise prices. Lowered prices are rare, especially in our current inflation-laden economy.

That's fine. My point is merely that it would suck if we had to add something that would only detract from the product and the fans didn't definitely benefit from it. I would be annoyed if something like this didn't result in lower ticket prices (not necessarily from year to year, but with respect to where they otherwise would've been) because it would make the games an inferior product for me. Advertising isn't something I enjoy at all. It's something I put up with.

Ultimately, that's why it would probably be a decent business move as far as I can see. It wouldn't stop me from watching games, so it would be more advertising that I could watch (and completely ignore), while watching. For me personally, I think it would have an adverse affect since out of place advertising like that just makes me irritated with the company, but I would assume it would have a positive effect over all business-wise.

For those who think marketing on jerseys is something new, tell me when the last time was that you haven't seen the following on many sports jerseys...

(hint, one currently is on the Kings jersey)

Only replica and "swingman" jerseys have an "adidas" logo on the top left. All authentic jerseys do not except for on the tag on the bottom right.

Logos = advertising. Nike does not put a swoosh on every pair of shoes it makes just to make them "fashionable"...they do it to advertise that those shoes are their product. Just because they make a product and put their logo on it does not mean that they are not advertising.

I see it as one being accepted (swoosh, thee stripes) where the other (Lifelock) isn't. Advertising is advertising. If you can complain about a company name across the front then why not complain about TV time outs? They happen once a quarter. You're being advertised to.

Right, and I think thats the point. Advertisement and marketing has enveloped every aspect of sports but NBA jerseys have been exempt for the most part. If I have to see advertisements everwhere else, I'd rather not see a "Lifelock" logo right across a jersey.

And there is a difference (from a fan's perspective) between

And a Nike or Adidas logo on a jersey. For one, AS A FAN, I don't have to stare at it the ENTIRE GAME and then see Lifelock commercials every 15 minutes during timeouts.

But, hey, that's just my opinion. I agree that if it makes ticket prices cheaper (which is fathomable, but I kind of doubt), then how could I not be a little more fine with it?

Like I said before, it's something I currently put up with on the level it's at. I would just kind of be annoyed more advertising was tacked onto jerseys just because the league knew that we would put up with it. And again, I'm not saying I wouldn't put up with it--just that it would annoy me a little. Advertising is absolutely a necessity--I get that. I just don't want to see more of it if I don't have to, or if I don't benefit from it in some way.

Would you be in favor on Ads on jerseys?
