Khan's quote from the article:
"What we're hearing especially is there are a lot of teams that have interest in buying picks toward the end of the first round," Kahn said. "I think you'll see a lot of that."
That doesn't say much about the 6th or 18th picks...MAYBE that could be construed as a hint that the Wolves might sell the 28th pick...but I really hope not.

I'd rather trade it than sell it.

Re: Kahn knows this team..
I guess after looking at the full article, he did say something a bit more indicative towards the 6th pick, though really it's more of just not closing the door on the possibility of a trade:
"You never say never to anything," Kahn said. "We would listen to anything, of course. But by the same token, I'm not out there on the phone shopping them. It's a little early for that still."
Kahn said it's likewise too early to gauge teams' interest in that sixth pick or the Wolves' other two first-round selections, Nos. 18 and 28.

Interesting that when they ask about height he turns it to length.

Re: Kahn knows this team..
Reading the wiretap that RealGM posted doesn't tell me that Kahn's looking to deal picks. He says there's talks of teams wanting to buy picks, and that our team needs a lot of help.

at least if they sell a pick, they need to tell the truth and say times were hard and they want to hoard cash like a squirrel preparing for winter and stuffing nuts and acorns in their fat craw, but don't insult people talking about pick value or "there wasn't a guy we liked" or anything like that.

I agree. Not that it has alot of value but I would rather see them trade the 28th rather than sell it.

Kahn seems rather like-able and motivated.....I didn't hear that he had #28 up for sale.....Getting exciting more is gonna be know when they get into high gear with the workouts.....He did address the Hardin question reasonably as well.

kahn really seems like a sharp guy and he knows his basketball. I'm trying not to get too excited here but I feel a lot better with him at the helm.

Does selling the pick help the franchise win a championship?
If Taylor can't afford to pay the players he needs to sell the team to someone that can.

Re: Kahn knows this team..
Taylor can definitely afford the players. If it's a case of not liking any of the proespects at #28, they need to use it on a Euro with a low buy-out and leave him across the pond for another year. It's stupid to sell picks with our current situation.

It only seems stupid to you because it is not your money. Why add another guarnteed contract for a guy who has less than a 50% chance of being rotation worthy within 3 years? Albeit a low contract, it is still more than a $6 million swing (guaranteed to #28 added to the amount gained via selling). Of course, I'd agree that obtaining an asset would be better.

Re: Kahn knows this team..
Wow, did you ignore everything I typed? If they don't want to use it on a college player now, there's always the option of selecting a Euro who can be stashed for a year. Preferably someone with a low buy-out or NBA option like Casspi, if he's still there. Otherwise there are options like Calathes. That way we at least hold his rights and potentially have a talent coming over next year or down the road.
If the guy is never ready, then we just never bring him over, and it never costs us anything.
So yeah, it's stupid to sell the pick.

On the draft a Euro and stash side of things. My understanding is that doing so in the first round slots that player into the guaranteed salary structure, making it harder to convince them to come over when they ultimately do, since there's no way for them to negotiate for more money (see also, Fran Vasquez). No?

Re: Kahn knows this team..
Usually the issue is with someone with a big buy-out. Casspi and Calathes don't have big buy-outs.
And even if they're worried about that, there has to be an option to trade #28 for a future 2nd, at the very least. To just sell the pick is to take an asset and just give it away. We're not in the position where we can afford to give assets away.

Totally agree on a straight sale, unless it makes up Taylor's mind to spend big money on a FA down the road--who knows how Billionaires think (though I'd like a chance to learn...)
