Are you interested in 2010?

Post#1 » by itsgotime » Thu Jun 4, 2009 3:29 pm

Mavericks fan here, and I'm wondering if you have any interest in dumping some of your horrible contracts (I'm looking at you Nazr) to make a run at 2010? I know we can help you do it, my price is Okafor.

I've got $33 million in 2010 expiring deals with Damp also being a Stack-like (immediate cap relief to a financially hurting team) trade chip in 2010 as well.

Any interest?

One trade I'd be willing to do:

Dallas out:

Damp
JHoward
SWilliams
Stack
AWright
JJB

Charlotte out:

Okafor
Nazr
VladRad
GWallace
Diaw

This clears $40+ million off your salary for 2010 and technically all you'd have on payroll at the end of the season is Diop. Clean slate in a big time free agent year, with one of the best trade chips in Damp.

Any interest at all?

Nope...sorry. Charlotte gets garbage and Dallas gets 3 starters. Really?

I mean if you are looking at Nazr like you say, you can have him. I don't know what you want to do with him, but thats your perogative.

I think he meant it like how old timers use the phrase. Like "you're okay in my book".

no thanks.

with all that cap space in 2010 we would be lucky to end up with 3 players as good as wallace, okafor and diaw. what is the point?

what stud free agent are we going to sign that would make it worth losing our 3 best players? lebron, wade, bosh... those guys are coming to charlotte, exspecially not in rebuilding mode, as this would be.

PASS!!!!

I don't want Nazr, mostly all I want is Okafor. The only other caveat would be if Howard is included then I'd need Wallace back, which would help the 2010 process anyway.

As far as garbage, Josh is not garbage, Damp is better than Diop, JJB is not garbage and Wright was a starter on a playoff level team, not that he was a big piece, but he got minutes on a better team than you guys put out last year.

I'm not here to say that what I'm offering is too much more than a do over button. My question is, do you want a do over? However, saying that all I'm giving you is garbage is quite an understatement and unnecessary.

Edit: also, this was a max scenario that I put up, if you wanted to retain some draw for 2010 FA's there are workable other trade scenarios that can be made. We have enough expiring contracts at different amounts to fit a trade that is amicable, if that is something you want to do.

LOL! There's so much there to disagree with!

I'll just say nah...we're not interested.

its just too early to have a "do over" moment. we have to see what this team that LB put together can do. LB is not going to hang out for a few years of rebuilding. if LB doesnt get this team in the playoffs next season, then maybe you start to consider rebuilding by dumping some salary and moving okafor, wallaec and diaw.

If you read the original post, I wasn't disrespectful in my offer. I was seeing if there was any thought or interest in a do over. The only players that are garbage or crap as you guys are so eloquently putting it are Stack and Williams. If you're not interested in a do over on contracts (which is what this trade thought process is about) and think you can do something more than what you have been doing, that's cool, I wish you the best of luck.

To talk about players who have been a part of 9 seasons of 50 wins or more as if they're crap might be a little over doing it on your part, don't you think? I want to thank Fatlever for being level headed about it and reading through the entire post, not just the single proposal made (since the trade was an example, not an actual proposal). I appreciate it. Now, carry on with your regularly tuned schedule.

Dallas gives up 1 starter who has some serious baggage for three starters and a good 6th man and all good role models. It's a crap deal...

JJB doesn't beat Felton and DJ, so he see junk minutes

Dampier to okay, but not good enough to be an upgrade over Okafor

Stack is done

Even if the Cats had a tonne pf room under the cap, would a star even come. Cats give up too many critical pieces and doesn't get all the much value in return. We want to make a decent run at the playoff next season, not jostle for the number 1 pick.

EDIT: I'll probably get shot down, but if you really want Okafor (not even sure if this works in the checker), then trade with the Wizards to get the 5th pick, then give us #5 and #22 do a sign and trade with Bass (MLE for 3 years) giving him to us and include Shawn Williams

So in the end it looks like:

#5: Hill
#13: BJ Mullins (I'd take the risk based on grabbing Hill at 5)
#22: SG/SF position

+ Bass and Williams

And if we trade every player under contract for random future second round pick we would save even more! Wait who would play for us then?!

the bottom line... cap space is way overrated when you are a small market team, with no history, no national media attention etc...

i would imagine if we tried to rebuild it would be small changes, like wallace for cap space and picks... something simple to start.

I'll explain this, simply.

JJ Barea is a good PG. A good 6 Foot Pg, which would be great if this team didn't have Felton and DJ already. The one posistion this team is pretty set at and one of the best players you offer is yet another PG.

Shawne Williams is garbage. No point in elaborating.

"Wright was a starter on a playoff team...". So was Dahntay Jones, that doesn't make either one of them worth trading for. Wright doesn't do anything good, its all average or below.

Howard. Dallas has been trying to get rid of him for quite some time now. Wallace and Diaw are both better fits/players then him. Why would we trade for the worst out of 3, and trade the better two.

Dampier. I actually wouldn't mind seeing him become a Bobcat. It would be kind of strange to have both Diop and him, which would probably set up another trade, but still. But not in this god-awful trade.

Stackhouse. Really? Did you think him being a Tarheel would somehow make it plausible to ignore all the facts?

I'm not even going to go into the Bobcats side of this. Its pointless.
