Devin 1L wrote:As a non-Celtics fan, I'd imagine every Celtics fan would want to see the Lakers lose for one big reason, and not just because they're the Lakers.

Because they lost to the Magic.

It's a hell of a lot easier to say that you lost to the eventual NBA Champion, (especially when you acknowledge injuries), than to lose to the team that lost to the NBA Champion.
At least here you could make an argument that you were actually the second best team in the league (I suppose you could anyhow, but you know what I mean), especially if the Magic happened to win in less games. From a cognitive dissonance perspective, I'd be hoping the Magic walk all over the Lakers and then pray for good physical recovery in Boston.

That would be the national media and fans' perception of things. Conversely, I would imagine most Celtics fans don't want the Lakers to win the championship this season because 1) the Phil Jackson versus Red Auerbach argument, 2) Kobe winning a championship without Shaquille O'Neal and 3) with a championship this season, the Lakers move even closer to catching up to Boston's lead for most NBA championships all time. These are valid and more accurate reasons to why (if you're a Celtic fan) you aren't rooting for the Lakers to win another NBA title. And not necessarily because you want Orlando to win to justify losing in the playoffs to them. That's hogwash. It's BS, in my opinion. Because that's not my point of view on this topic, not at all. I dislike Kobe Bryant. Plain and simple. I never wrote anything about not wanting the Lakers to win or what have you. I'm indifferent about the the Los Angeles Lakers franchise as I'm about every other NBA franchise. It's just that Kobe plays for the Lakers so it's becomes more coincidental than an outright dislike for the Lakers and their fans personally. Ditto for Shaq. I dislike Shaq. The only active player I dislike more than Kobe. No matter which team he plays for, my loathing of him remains the same. Hence, my point about Kobe. If the Lakers win, which I think they will. Then they win. Whatever. I just hate that Kobe gets to win too.

The only reasons I want the Lakers to lose, besides my eternal and undying hatred for them as a lifelong C's fan, are:

1) Currently, C's 17 titles, Lakers 9....winning gets them to within 7...

2) I hate Phil Jackson and the cheap way he's amassed those titles vs how Red did it...would be a travesty...

3) I hate Kobe and his A-Rod-esque personality and all of the fake "good teammate" BS, a lot of which is perpetrated by MFing ESPN...

4) Did I mention I hate the Lakers? They have had hardly any lean years in their history, which is shocking...even the Yankees had down years, and Lord knows our C's did...it almost seems unfair, although playing in a glitzy and media-loved market like LA makes it more unsurprising...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Tony, CF, it's alright boys, let it go. Just an internet board. A little s#!t talking every once in a while never hurt anyone.

Top 10 reasons to root against the Lakers:

10. Kobe doesn't get to win without Shaq

9. Sascha doesn't get a ring

8. ESPN's shockingly faulty prediction record continues to embarrass

7. SVG is a bit of a douche but at least not as arrogant as Phil

6. The Lakers Trophy count remains at safe distance behind the Celtics

5. Phil doesn't eclipse Red's trophy count

4. We lost to the eventual champ

3. It took the eventual champ 7 games to beat us without Powe and KG

2. The NBA and ESPN's annoying Kobe-Bron hype machine comes to a disastrous hault

1. It's LA. What the f#!*k! What Boston Celtics fan would not want them to lose? Forget the other 9 reasons. Have you lost your minds people?? A true Celtics fan will always root against the Lakers. Go on Orlabdo, BEAT LA.

Now with Cleveland and the Lebron hype out of the picture its pretty much a done deal who C's fans are rooting for.. Before it was a can't win situation. Now Orlando is an easy team to get behind. They have less hype and win with team play..

Orlando beating on Cleveland is the kind of reason I watch sports. I am delighted to be wrong (I totally thought Cleveland would roll - even when they went down 3-1) But was even more delighted the that the Lebron loving media got bypassed. Lebron even cemented our dislike with his classless sore loser act..

I wish the media and the NBA would stop trying to make guys heroes based on regular season scoring titles.. And let the real guys be crowned via their play. The NFL does this better. Tom Brady got hype because he won championships...

Brah, you know we (Cs) are cool. We have gone through a lot of ish and you guys know me well enough to know that Im kidding, and you guys know where I draw the line. Like I said it over and over again the love for our teams isnt going to change ish between us as friends or posters that have mutual respect for one and other on a chat board.
Its one thing to go at each other about our passion and our love for our franchises and our team and its another have peps you have never met on a chat board have the same lover and passion FOR THE GAME.
Like I said before I wish we were playing you guys so if and when we would've won it would have been much sweater, but oh well I can see you guys are doing some off season work trying to regroup for next year. Keep up the good work while we go handle our business and try to get this CHIP.

I've never seen A-Rod show such a disgusting display of selfishness as Kobe did in the 2004 Championship. And of course there was the time the Nets were planning on drafting Kobe, but he refused to play for them. His personality was pretty clear even before he stepped onto an NBA court. As bad as A-Rod is, it's unfair to compare him to Kobe. I've also never seen A-Rod show anger towards his teammates the way Kobe does.

I've never seen baseball become a team game like basketball is.

Also our title count is at 14, our franchises were born almost at the same time. All because you move does not mean you lose all of your championships.

Lets face it CF, you dispise Kobe and the Lakers PERIOD. It is very obvious. Your actually comparing a player who has juiced and lied over and over about his steriods abuse which he is still denying to Kobe.
I actually had this conversation with this new girl that I have been dating for a month and when I brought up Kobe and all the hate he recieves her reply was "People hate Kobe because of his success and what he has achieved as a player" and " Everytime they bring up his past or anything negative is to only put him down and bash him for who he is and what he is to the game" "Who cares what he has done off the court?" He is a nobody to me and all I care about is what he does on the court" "And that is winning championships".
I think Im in LOVE brah...........

It goes without saying that the Lakers suck.

But a Laker signature with a puppet wearing a Yankees hat? That's just double suck.

"People hate Kobe because of his success and what he has achieved as a player"

that's swell. But your g/f is hardly an authority on what makes people tick.

Kobe has an "I am a prick" vibe going for him - the whole rape thing didn't help. Even if he didn't rape that girl he pretty clearly acted like a POS..

So no I don't think people hate him for what he has accomplished.. They hate him because his "nice guy" personality is at odds with reality. People don't like hypocrits. You want to play the nice guy family man? Don't screw around with some bimbo.

You want to play the perfect teamate? Don't bad mouth Shaq and then later deny that you even care about showing him up.

I want to see them lose painfully, by 30 or 40 points in Game 7.
Gatorade shower for SVG, tied up balloons waiting in the rafters, the works...

Damn dawg. I feel bad for some of the haters, the Lakers are winning this series in 5 (max). So I tell you what after Game 2, I'm going to open up 2 additional spots on the Kobe Bandwagon. First come first serve.

Yeah, the gap will go from C's 17, Lakers 9 to C's 17, Lakers 10...

According to the NBA, Lakers have 14. You can be in denial all you want..Gap is closing.

No one here that I saw was really saying Orlando had a chance, just that we hoped they could do somethin, however unlikely it is/was.
And you can appreciate a player without riding his nuts like it's a job. He's an awesome player, most here will say the same thing, it's just everything else that goes with the Kobe product is what gets to ya. I'm even right there w/ ya Nets that Kobe>Lebron, but the guy is a douchebag you can put up there against anyone from history in a douchebag contest and he'd have decent shot.

Return to Boston Celtics
