C. Villanueva & T. Chandler

Post#1 » by Wisedude42 » Tue Jun 2, 2009 2:31 am

The Cavs need to make a solid offer to restricted free agent Charlie Villanueva. The Bucks GM said they need financial discipline so it is doubtful they would match a strong offer. Bucks have too much salary on the current roster.

Then trade Zydrunas to New Orleans for center Tyson Chandler.
OR Z for Chris Kaman.

(2 teams looking for expiring contracts even if they publicly don't admit it)

Dont want any piece of Villanueva. He would not fit this team well. Bogut on the other hand would be a nice addition.

I really want Z to retire as a Cav and I imagine the front office would not trade him unless we are getting someone like Bosh.
Is Larry Hughes having fun yet?

Now I would definitely prefer Charlie V over Zack. The guy is just stuck under Skiles regime which means inconsistent playing time. Just ask the Bulls fans they couldn't wait to rid themselves of Skiles. When ever he gets consistent minutes he produces, the guy talent wise has it all

Rebound
Blks
Post up
Consistent 3pt range
Good basketball IQ
Sign me up now as far as Z goes I would keep him & Ship Ben out and something else for Chandler. I like your thought process though

I was coming in this forum to see if you guys would be willing to trade Big Ben for Chandler. I also do like the signing of Charlie V especially if Varejo is opting out and asking for more money.

I say keep Z, let Varejo walk, sign Charlie V and trade for Chandler. That is a nice rotation.

Like the sounds of Chandler. He's a descent interior defender.

Chandler for Ilgauskas would be a steal for the Cavs.

Signing Villanueva would not be as good. CV is a PF in one way - he can rebound adequately. He has no post up game. He is not a good defender - Ferry would never sign him, in my opinion. His length occupies space on the perimeter, but he cannot stay in front of anyone. Nor can he use his body to take up space. He can get hot from the arc, but is not a good % shooter from the outside. CV would make the Cavs even more of a perimeter team than they are already.

Both Varejäo and Ilgauskas are more effective than Villanueva

That's what they said about Mo before he got here. I've watched my share of Bucks ball not because I was a fan. But Charlie was part of my bench barrage in fantasy basketball. Like I said before when ever he was given adequate time he performed well from the post along with the arc. He was also almost unstoppable against us in a few games. Sold get her done

Charlie V would be a perfect fit for Cleveland. The Cavs needed a big man to stretch the floor and score, Villanueva's pretty mobile too and he can rebound. IMO the Cavs dont need a big man to post up, I think having a PF with range out to 3 that will open up lanes for Lebron and make teams pay for doubling would be a much better fit.

I would be very interested in this combination. I think going to a smaller/more athletic PF is a new trend in the NBA. More and more big guys are playing on the perimeter in HS and college which means you have fewer and fewer true big guys in the NBA. What that means is you will rarely come across a team in the NBA that has 2 legit back to the basket bigs that can hurt you. So if that happens then you can hide someone like Lamar Odom or Charlie Villanueva or Rashard Lewis on the worse of the 2 offensive big guys and then use their skills on offense on the other end.

Think about it, if we had Charlie V this season, which team would exploit him on the other end of the court?

-Against Detroit we could put him on Dice. Dice is not going to post you up. Neither is Sheed for that matter.

-Against Atlanta he could guard Josh Smith. Charlie is a good matchup for Josh Smith.

-Against Orlando he would matchup with Rashard Lewis much better than Andy could.

-Against LA he could matchup with Odom.

See, it is harder and harder for teams to exploit athletic/tall/long/perimeter oriented big guys.

bucks fan here...CV would be a great fit on the Cavs. He is great offensively, unstoppable at times. The big thing no one ever talks about with his game though is how good of a facilitator and passer he is. A couple games against you guys this year (the one when Z went after CV and got choked out) we ran the offense through CV and you had no answer, he kept us in the game until his ejection (which Z should have at least got tossed too). But he really makes plays for people and is very talented on offense, he has the complete package. He is a very good rebounder too as mentioned. I don't know how you can justify not signing him for something like 6 million considering how bad you guys are up front. Z is on the verge of being a liability every single game he plays and you have no one else but old bench role players.

as for his defense, let's see what happens if you put him on a team with LeBron...its funny how guys suddenly try a lot harder at something when they're on a top tier team with the best player in the game.

Here's what I would do if Charle V would sign for the MLE:

Sign Charlie for the MLE :)

Trade Ben, Sasha, and 3 mil cash for Chandler, Posey, and NOH's pick

Sign Kidd for the LLE if he wants to come to Cleveland. Otherwise, draft a PG with NOH's pick (might do it anyways).

Mo/Kidd
Delonte/Boobie
Bron/Posey
Charlie V/ AV/JJ
Chandler/Z/AV

+ NOH's pick, CLE's pick, CHI's 2nd.

We would still have big Z as an expiring to trade for a superstar (who would immediately be bought out and return to the Cavs. :) ) and more talent/youth.

i like it a lot. plus what i like is that charlie v and bron are interchangeable at the 3 and 4 spot. bron is strong enough to guard pf's if need be. i seriously doubt if kidd leaves dallas. especially for a backup role.

I'm a Bucks fan that realises we have no chance to resign CV and I really think CV would be horrible on the Cavs. For one, he is an extremely streaky three point shooter. He averages what? MAYBE 30%? On a good night he might average 40.... He has terrible team defense, him inside with Z or Wallace would make me cringe just to watch. And for those who said he can guard Lewis, Smith etc on the perimeter, no, no he can't. He has extremely slow feet on defense.

With all that said, when he's on, he's on. He NEEDS the ball in his hands to be effective though, I doubt that would work with Lebron. He is an excellent rebound and can get quite a few second chance opportunities.

I really think he'd be a terrible fit on the Cavs. Like even at the MLE, if it invades the chance of getting another max FA in 2010, I'm thinking a Larry Hughes type mistake.

i would love for this to happen and to me it seems like charlie v is hinting at the cavs organization that he wants to be here with lebron. we need to get younger and longer and more athletic upfront and he certinally brings that. we all know he can flat out score, and the cavs will get him to play d im not worried about that.

Whoever doesn't think that C.V. isn't a good fit for the Cavs, just ask Lebron. Lebron would want Charlie in a second. C.V. is a low post scorer that the Cavs need. Go get him when free agency starts.

Exactly, CV is a poor man's Bosh.
Well at least we're not Detroit!
