As we've discussed at length in this space, the Milwaukee Bucks have a difficult choice facing them this summer. They have two key free agents in Charlie Villanueva and Ramon Sessions, and one of them is most likely going to be a casualty of the salary cap. The fact that the Bucks are looking very closely at every point guard available in the draft would make you think they're leaning towards letting Sessions walk, but it's far too early to know. In truth, the Bucks themselves haven't made the decision yet, and are holding out hope that they can find a way to keep both. That said, plenty of teams are starting to think about what Villanueva would look like in their uniforms. One of them might be the Cleveland Cavaliers.
"I understand the situation Milwaukee is in financially," Villanueva said on ESPN Radio recently, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "They don't want to go over the cap or what not (actually the luxury tax level). Whatever team decides to make the best offer, I'm going to think about it. "Cleveland definitely is not a bad spot. I've played with LeBron. I played with LeBron in the McDonald's All-American Game and we played well together. Is there a possibility? Yes. Will it happen? Time will tell."

Both he and Villanueva are RFAs but Milwaukee doesn't sound entirely confident that they could resign them both. I wonder how much Sessions is seeking in a new contract. In Boston, he could be an ideal backup with starting experience. That is, if he were open to being a backup which I doubt.

I would think that they'd drop Villanueva before sessions, but who knows. I'd have to look at tapes of the kid. I do remember him going off a couple of times last year.

I like Sessions in general. But I don't think we need a backup PG before a backup Center, or backup big, or backup wing.

Re: If Milwaukee doesn't resign Sessions, what about Boston?
Sessions is looking for 30 mpg and starter money.
The Celtics can't give him either one.
To get the starter money, he will sign with a team that guarantees 30 mpg.
At a price that Milwaukee doesn't want to pay,
because their roster is full of bloated contracts already.
Milwaukee screwed itself with several stupid signings over the years.
So now they must be the miser to make up for their past delusions.

I'd love to get Sessions.
He's much better than Marbs at this point, and could fill a similar role. In fact, he's a combo guard, so he could also fill House's role. If House opts out and Sessions is available, OK he wouldn't be getting starter mins but he'd be getting 20-25 per game and he'd be competing for a title. Lots of guys get overvalued on good teams, so he could be thinking of really cashing in after his next deal, and we could get him for like 2 yr 7 mil or something.

Sessions is not on a stage in his career where he wants to sign as a backup for a contender. We have to wait for the next contract. He is best served starting for a non-successful team that's looking for a floor leader right now. That's just the way it goes in the NBA.

Yeah, I'd figured he'll be an unlikely option. In other news, Portland reads as if they intent to pick up the option on S. Blake, so he doesn't look like he could be an option if Ainge were interested in trading for him. I'm interested in trading for him. But, never mind, I guess.
Wiretap
The Blazers have team options on Steve Blake ($4.0 million salary next season) and Travis Outlaw ($3.6 million) that can be exercised on July 1, but it sounds as if both will remain with the club, unless a trade is made.
“I don’t see a scenario where we don’t pick up their options,” said Kevin Pritchard. “They’ve both been terrific for us.

Its going to be interesting to see how much teams are really willing to spend. Everyone is talking like they aren't going to be willing to break the bank for anyone. If that is the case resonably priced players will be available.

Sessions' salary for this season was $711,517. How much more is he seeking? I was thinking Ainge could decide not to bring back either Davis or Powe and use that money for him.
I think Milwaukee can afford Sessions and not Villanueva. I keep Sessions because Ridnour is an expiring contract next season. And, besides, I still believe that Villanueva overachieved after the Bucks lost key players to injuries just like I feel the same about Davis. Don't overspend on these players if you don't feel it's worth it in the long run. Villanueva is a versatile player and quite talented like Odom. However, let him go or do a sign-and-trade if your gut tells you otherwise if you're Milwaukee.

Re: If Milwaukee doesn't resign Sessions, what about Boston?
The interesting thing with Sessions is that he is in the same boat as Baby he is limited to the league avg salary of 5.6 mil in the first year. My guess is that he pretty much signs on the dotted line with the first team that offers him the full MLE. I think it would be a great idea if we trade away Rondo but I don't see a need for both.
The interesting thing will be whether these restricted FA sign below market offer sheets or if they take the QO and wait for the cap space available next offseason. I don't think the overseas option is going to be there this year.
