OKC-LAC draft day rumor?

Post#1 » by freeman » Fri Jun 5, 2009 6:20 am

I've posted this on the OKC board as well.

I've been searching all over the net for the OKC-LAC draft day trade proposal, but i can't find anything.
I just heard it from one of my basketball buddies, he's a contributing editor to a local basketball magazine, i forgot to ask the link, i must've been too drunk to understand it all completely. But here's some bits about it:

LAC trades:
2009 #1 pick - Blake Griffin
Future 2nd rd pick/s
Marcus Camby / Chris Kaman

OKC trades:
2009#3 pick - Hasheem Thabeet/James Harden/Ricky Rubio
2009#25 pick - potentially Sam Young
Russell Westbrook
Nick Collison

At first i thought it's silly but it works on the trade checker.
Anyone heard or seen this before? Got a link?
I didn't really understood his reasoning but it has something to do with OKC's strategy to strengthen their financial stability.

The only player on OKC I would trade Griffin for is Durant, and we know that's not going to happen.

I disagree with ya'll there. I would trade Blake Griffin for Westbrook and #3 anyday of the week. Then again, I've very high on Westbrook.

Westbrook is not worth the prospect of the #1 pick in the draft, Griffin. Plus, this leaves us with Davis and Westbrook in the backcourt (logjam) and what? Thabeet is unproven, Harden and EG (SG logjam) and Rubio (3 starting PG's logjam)? Doesn't make any sense, your friend was probably drunk too.

I don't like the idea of giving up Camby, I just don't like how this trade looks.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I really like Westbrook also, but we would have a cluttered backcourt if we add him and possibly Rubio or Harden. Prior to the lottery, I personally would have hated to see us draft Thabeet in the top 3 (that hasn't changed). We'll have nice young pieces at every position if we stick with what we have.

The only way I deal the pick to OKC involves Durant. There's nothing else on that roster to want. Westbrook is nice, I like Gordon better. I like Green better than Thornton, but there's no need to have them both.

The only team I would think about dealing with would be the Grizz and that deal would have to be Mayo and the 2nd. I'd love to see a Mayo and Gordon back court. I would then shop the 2nd pick to the highest bidder.

The line "I must've been too drunk to understand it all completely" explains it for me.

The funny thing is that all of the OKC fans hate this trade too.

Yah, probably, but i believe i got the players right, except for the rationale.
I never said i like this trade proposal, I was just trying to find anybody who knows the link about this rumor.
At first, i kinda laughed at it but since there was a rumor about Baron Davis' potential return to GS, the Clips' needing a pg, Westbrook born and raised in Long Beach, and Griffin being an Oklahoma native, i just thought it could be possible. i then checked it on the trade checker and it works.
