Danny's Secret Guy is in RealGM Mock Draft

Post#1 » by Jammer » Sat Jun 6, 2009 12:14 am

I haven't mentioned his name at all the past year, even though Danny had him in for a look
LAST YEAR AND THIS YEAR because I was hoping that he'd stay under the radar.

I thought 23 year old Jeremy Pargo, younger brother of Jannero (currently in Europe,
before that New Orleans) was Danny's secret pick this year.

RealGM has Pargo going at #36 to Detroit.

Yikes.

Time to buy a pick, or swap someone.

Possible teams that might sell a pick, or take a player if they are under the cap.

#21 New Orleans Hornets ($3 million cash)
#23 Sacramento (Gabe Pruitt + $1 million cash, they are under cap)
#25 Oklahoma City (Tony Allen, they are under the cap)
#28 Minnesota ($3 million cash this deep would certainly do it)
#31 Sacramento (Gabe Pruitt??, they are under the cap so they could just accept him)

buy a pick for some guy that no one's heard of?

Why, is this a brother package deal if we pick him?

He played with Morrison at Gonzaga, a lot of people know who he is.

That said I'm not gonna start throwing out hypothetical trades for the guy. Not the sexiest pick.

Price is awful. He had like 14% body fat and a 31 inch vertical. Pargo's interesting.

Actually I think Danny was hoping to get Jeremy Pargo with the 58 pick.

But Miami supposedly has been eyeing Pargo with the 43 pick.

Now RealGM has Detroit taking him at 36.

Anyway, I thought Danny might try the above scenarios to get a guy,
whether it's Jeremy or someone else.

The above 5 options are ways to get a pick from 21 thru 31 that are feasible.

I would hope Danny pulls one or two of them off.

Whether he uses it on Jeremy Pargo is Celtic business,
but Pargo doesn't look like he'll slip past Miami at 43, and maybe not even Detroit at 36.

I'd rather hope to pick up Nick Calathes somewhere in the 2nd round. Tall, younger, and will be overseas initially.

Wasn't Pargo expected to go late 2nd or undrafted according to most sites? The RealGM mock is just done by the users here isn't it? Meh, either way, the sound of it is that he'll probably be gone by our pick. And he's been no secret really, anyone with a memory and an eye for Celtics news knows we worked him out last year. I don't see why anyone would be that high up on him. We could've gotten him (if he declared) with our second last year and he only had a worse year at college last year, didn't he?

I don't think we trade into round one unless it secures a potential longterm home run type of talent. I'm sure Danny Ainge would have interest in buying a pick should a stud slides to far but he isn't buying a pick for Pargo.

Patrick Mills is a guy I could see Danny Ainge falling in love with enough to buy a pick but not Pargo.

Pruitt is better than every guy mentioned in this thread. In fact, I sort of think that Danny considers Pruitt a secret of sorts. He has played well in my opinion when given time, and he definitely has a great deal of talent and size for the position. As a Pac-10 guy, I can tell you that when he was at USC, he was at least as good (and I thought better) than Jordan Farmar. Time will tell, but I can't believe we'd go after some rookie point guard "project" when we have one with 2 years in the system right in our stable.

I think we'll be doing the Center/Pierce backup this offseason. IF we do point guard, it will be a vet like Marbs.

The guy that I wish we could somehow get would be Sam Young from Pitt. I love his game and think he would fit perfectly with the Celtics. I dont think there is much of a chance because of his skill level, but I would love to see him in green.

I don't think Pruitt plays in the NBA next year at least not all year. I personally think he is traded then cut or simply cut in camp. I think Ainge thinks he has a couple aces up his sleeves in Giddens and Walker not with Pruitt.

I believe that of all the guys in this draft that Mills would be the PG that Danny would fall for. Danny loves his types of PG's the explosive little guys and who are also physical and strong which is why he fell for Marcus Banks and Rajon Rondo.

I could also see him going after Gerald Henderson if he were to slide to far down in the draft as a cheaper, younger Tony Allen without the injury or off court concerns. Danny has also shown a consistent interest in physical athletic SG's over the years which is why he never traded Tony Allen.

I don't see him going out of his way to pursue Pargo unless its Jannero Pargo as a free agent this summer as a **** you to the Hornets for over paying Posey.

I would be disappointed if we do not come away from the draft with an NBA starter.

We have the roster spot. We have the cash. Mny teams are hurting financially and usually they draft poorly. DA drafts extremely well. A couple players should slide. And we pull the trigger.

Perk at 27, West at 24, Rondo at 21 and Baby in the 30's somewhere. The draft for us is skimming talent.

Nice to see some love for Gabe here. I've been withholding judgement on him because I just haven't seen enough of him. He's been on a contender the last two years and has played behind Rondo, Cassell, House, and Marbury. It may be time for him to spread his wings, grow a pair, whatever, now that he's entering his third year as a pro. But I'm not excited about putting two years of development into him and then just dumping him because he didn't get enough burn show what he can do. If Danny finds a sure thing for backup PG, fine. If he gets a solid vet for the minimum, fine. Until that happens, he's a guy who is likely to come into camp and surprise.

Pruitt hasn't shown anything during his time here to be positive about him having a future. When he has played he has been awful and unlike say Marbury he has no longstanding history of being capable.

I agree that the skills, size and athletic ability are in Pruitt but if that was everything Kedrick Brown would have been an allstar.

Those are some lofty expectations. Especially in a relatively weak draft

Those expectations are more then a little out there, I would like to see us buy a pick to grab a guy like Mills or Teague should they slide too far. But i'm looking at them with a clear idea that they can be important rotation guys not starters here.
