OT - Rasheed Wallace & Cavs talking of deal

Post#1 » by Al-Haqq » Sun Jun 7, 2009 2:35 am

J. Gamble

"My sources say that Rasheed Wallace and the Cavs are beginning talks on a two-year deal worth about $10 million per for the services of the former Piston. The move and negotiations were inspired by Dwight Howard’s dominant performance over Cleveland’s big men in the Eastern Conference Finals. And Wallace will be brought in for that very purpose, to neutralize Dwight Howard next season and help the Cavs get over the hump.
This supports what we previously reported about what it will take for Sheed to come back next year.
If this signing falls through, I’m hearing that Cleveland may do a sign and trade with the Clippers for Zach Randolph, which certainly makes sense for the Clippers since they are taking Blake Griffin No. 1 overall."

Not really familiar with the NBA free agency rules, are they allowed to talk already?? I thought they had to wait till the first. Or is this just speculation saying that they will talk?

speculation, that is a little less credible then my own.

And I speculate that at least one team out there will offer the full MLE for one year which a near retirement Sheed would be more willing to accept. Which is more then just 5mil over 2 years.

See the general board for a thread about this on the general board too. The writer also speculates that the Cavs will try to trade for Zach Randolph

The sad part of this is, the guy who wrote this nonsense probably got paid for it. Just some good ol' fashioned irresponsible journalism.
There's so much wrong in just two short paragraphs, but the two points that stick out to me are:
Does he not realize a Sheed deal would be a s&t too?
And who is the fa from Cleveland that is getting signed and traded, because Randolph isn't, he's already locked up.

Wait, why in the world would Detroit do a sign and trade with Rasheed?

They've been trying to clear cap room ever since they traded for Iverson, and taking ballast back for Rasheed would royally screw that up.

Thw MLE is around 5 mil per year. So anyone (us included) over the cap can over a 2 year 10 mil contract. Sheed would be smart to get 2 years at MLE level locked up as he may get hurt or only have one 5 mil season left in him.

Good, and good. I want Ainge to go after McDyess, let Cleveland sign R. Wallace. Because Boston already has their neutralizer of D. Howard in Perkins who's younger. If Cleveland trades for Randolph, he isn't going to help them much on the defensive end. Neither move would concern me if I'm the Celtics.

That person is wrong on so many levels. You can't talk to free agents, Cleveland can't offer Sheed 10 mill a year (more likely 10 total), there is no chance they would want Z Bo.

If I owned SlamOnline, this person would be fired immediately. That crap is similar to that crap that Shira posted last year in the midst of the KG talks where she said that Big Al was off the table.

Sheed should come here, where he'll actually win a 'ship and won't have to worry about the stars leaving after one year.

Sheed to the Cavs would be perfect...they could all give up trying together!
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
