Nice little trick by Kobe

Post#1 » by jdub114 » Mon Jun 8, 2009 4:09 am

Go to 2:51 in the video when Kobe uses the screen from Gasol. He hooks his arm onto Gasol's thigh, stopping Pietrus from effectively getting over the screen and giving himself more daylight.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already but I just thought it was pretty cool.

Its actually quite fundamental. Search youtube for Hubie Brown and screens and there is an instructional video of him teaching that very technique on properly utilizing screens.

Grabbing the sack isn't part of the drill I'd assume.

excellent maneuver. locks his defender out to give himself space. and stops the player from jumping into pau and getting a foul against pau.

Trade Sasha before he ruins the Lakers next season.

It may be an efffective move but I wish our superstar player wouldn't risk injuring his arm like that.
I mean what if Pietrus decides to go full force through that. Kobe can really get hurt.
And Pau could lose a nut or two

on the other hand, watch how fish and our guys go through those screens. they go hard and smash their way through that small space, if not draw contact and get the foul against the screener.

kobe prevents this by that maneuver.

you either smack the screener and draw the foul yourself. of you go around. or you follow behind kobe. in each case, that gives kobe that space needed to hit the wide open shot.
