Ricky Davis

Post#1 » by SportsFan215 » Tue Jun 2, 2009 6:15 am

I have been thinking about this situation for a while now, and I keep flipping back and forth on my opinion on what the Clippers should do with him.

How do you guys think the Clippers should handle Ricky Davis?

I am assuming he is going to pick up his $2.4 million player option for next year. He was very bad last year for the Clips and his attitude is not very good either. I am a little worried that he could be a bad influence on our young players, especially Eric Gordon.

Do you guys think we should cut him, try to trade him, or just keep him?

I would like to see him included in a trade. If he ends up staying the year, I hope that Collins, Taylor and Novak (if re-signed/matched) will be ahead of him on the depth chart.

He is someone that doesn't need to return.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I disagree with the sentiment that he's a bad character influence on the young players, but I agree with everything else-- he doesn't need to be here. I'm sure he'll pick up his option, but I'd really like to see him included in a big trade. I wouldn't miss him.

He looked good in preseason last year...

I don't know about him anymore. I don't think he's motivated or around the right cast of players.

With guys like Randolph and R. Davis being the mentors for Griffin and Gordon respectively, I don't want either around. Ricky is easier to let go right now, but Sterling doesn't like to walk people watch with his money for nothing.

It will be easy to dump Ricky's expiring contract off on a team hoping to clear up a couple of extra million for 2010 free agency. Hopefully it doesn't even take that long.

Couldn't care less of what we do with him. I'd rather see him traded in return for some defense but if he stays, no biggie, we're pretty thin at the SF position.

It's a shame really. I had such high hopes for him being an x-factor to the team. I just don't understand how he went from being a solid bench player, to one of the worst players in the league. We need to get rid of him. We have enough injury-prone players on the team.

Do any of you guys think that he will have much more motivation going into this year, since it's his contract year?

So I ran into Ricky Davis at Disneyland today....no joke. He was in front of me in line. I introduced myself as a big Clippers fan and asked if he was planning on picking up his option for next season. He chuckled and said "we'll see." A brief Disneyland encounter may not be all that insightful but...I thought it was good enough to share. He was also wearing Clipper warmup pants...don't know if it was because of team pride or laundry day. Still, nice to see.

Nice! You should have asked him about the infamous triple-double incident.

what ride? :)

Now if I said "We'll see" that probably means no

I am not expecting him to leave $2.4M on the table though. He certainly didn't do anything to drive up his market value. Skinner on the other hand, may very well opt out.

I want him back. Like everyone, he had a bad year where he was battling for injuries, but had a few good games (Sac one jumps out to me). Davis could be the definition of instant offense off the bench, and is a vet afterall. Not only that, he could work well in the 2nd unit with Mike Taylor because Ricky is a pretty good ball handler.
