Slow Form RealGM Mock Draft

Post#1 » by dice » Fri Jun 5, 2009 9:35 pm

No clock here!

When the Jazz board makes its call I'll move on to the next team board. I'll wait until it seems a clear frontrunner has been determined. Actually, I may not check in until Wednesday as I'll be on vacation. That would be way more than enough time. Anyway, in the unlikely event of an impasse/lack of participation I'll step in and make a reasonable selection for you :wizard:

1. Clippers - Blake Griffin PF, 20, Oklahoma City, OK
2. Grizzlies - Ricky Rubio PG, 18, Barcelona, Spain
3. Thunder - Hasheem Thabeet C, 22, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
4. Kings - James Harden SG, 19, Los Angeles, CA
5. Wizards - Tyreke Evans G, 19, Chester, PA
6. Wolves - Demar DeRozan G/F, 19, Compton, CA
7. Warriors - Jrue Holiday G, 19, Chatsworth, CA
8. Knicks - Jordan Hill PF, 21, Atlanta, GA
9. Raptors - Brandon Jennings PG, 19, Los Angeles, CA
10. Bucks - DeJuan Blair PF, 20, Pittsburgh, PA
11. Nets - James Johnson PF, 22, Cheyenne, WY
12. Bobcats - Terrence Williams SG, 21, Seattle, WA
13. Pacers - Stephen Curry G, 21, Charlotte, NC
14. Suns - Earl Clark F, 21, Plainfield, NJ

END LOTTERY (pretty decent bet that these are the 14 players actually taken if you ask me)

15. Pistons - Austin Daye F, 21, Irvine, CA
16. Bulls - Jonny Flynn PG, 20, Niagara Falls, NY
17. Sixers - Ty Lawson PG, 21, Clinton, MD
18. Wolves - Gerald Henderson SG, 21, Caldwell, NJ
19. Hawks - Eric Maynor PG, 22, Fayetteville, NC

And with the #20 pick Utah takes...?

(Support/ridicule of choices encouraged)
God help Ukraine
God help those fleeing misery to come here
God help the Middle East
God help the climate
God help US health care

Jeff Teague---definitely Teague. He has all the physical tools to be effective at point guard and shooting guard and could become our scoring guard off the bench which would be huge for us.

BJ Mullens and Jeff Teague are the two best players available here so I would hope these are the two the Jazz would be looking at. Both definitely have their question marks but at #20 who doesn't. Here is why I think these are the two the Jazz would consider.

BJ Mullens because you just don't get an opportunity to get 7'1 athletes that are still only 20 years old. And if you have seen his interviews he is an articulate kid with what seems to be a pretty good head on his shoulders. With the possibility that the Jazz could lose Boozer, Okur and Millsap this summer having legit size won't ever hurt. At worst, he's another true 7 footer who you could put down low with Koufos in the future and have great size and athleticism.

Jeff Teague because he's a lightning quick player capable of big scoring numbers, at worst will be a capable scorer off the bench. He has big time potential still, ridiculous athlete that could match up with some of the quicker guards that Deron struggles with. Doesn't play much defense, poor decision making and appears to be a me first player, would he fit into the Jazz team system?

My guess is the Jazz would go with Mullens based on the fact that size is always a premium, and this kid has it. He still is young, his ceiling is still very high and he fits a bigger need seeing that the Jazz already have Deron and Ronnie Price.

The Raptors picked a PG? WTF?

I like what I'm hearing about Wayne Ellington and would probably prefer him to Budinger. Would be okay with Teague. Mullens is years away...not really interested in another long-term project at C.

Omri Casspi. I want no part of the salary obligations that come with a first round pick this season, so I say we take a gamble on Casspi, who looks to be staying overseas for the forseeable future. In addition to saving money, we get a guy who looks to have some nice upside. I've only seen YouTube clips and draft-site scouting reports, but taking everything into account he seems like a solid pick given our circumstance.

I think I will change over to Mullens as well. 7-1 and his standing reach is only 2 inches shorter than Hasheem Thabeet's. The kid is massive and athletic and between him and Koufos we would have the biggest (and most athletic) front court in the nba. I would be happy with Teague, but guys like Mullens are few and far between.

Jeff Teague has top 10 talent and would of been up there if he didn't have a bad tourney. I'm a firm believer ppl shouldn't fall b/c of a few bad games, so he would be a steal this late.

I'm gonna say Mullins. Looks like the kid has some athleticism. Not impressed with Teague's assist to turnover ratio.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Best choices available: Teague, Mullens, Calathes, Casspi, Budinger.

Teague has all-star potential; Calathes will be called "Nasty-Nick" couple years from now (no doubt in my mind); Casspi already has a nasty mind along lenght and talent for a wing dude; Budinger can shoot and pass the basketball; Mullens potential is at least the same as Koufos/Fesenko....

Ok.... I'll go with my guts here... Jeff Teague (change my mind on what I wrote before )

I got to go with Mullens.
Got to go with size at 20.
Maybe we get lucky. I would rather gamble on a 7 footer.

Either Teague or Mullens are a steal right here, I'd be thrilled with either at #20 considering the possible alternatives.

I am actually really pleased with the Jazz draft spot right now, seems like there are literally 20 guys in this draft who have a place in the league and after those top 20 it becomes a lot more of a gamble. The Jazz will have a pretty easy choice when the pick comes seeing that I think it's pretty clear cut who the top 20 players in the draft are.

My big three here would be Psycho T, Teague and Sam Young. I would have a tough time deciding between these three.

Teague is the best talent undoubtedly, but do we need a 6'2 scorer? I'd rather have a legit PG to backup Deron. Plus I get a feeling Sloan would just leave him in the D-League.

Psycho T measured out great and we will likely need a backup PF for next season. And Sloan would probably play him.

Sam Young looks the ultimate Harpring replacement. Sloan would probably play him too.

No Mullins. I heard that Luke Nevill made him cry by dominating him in workouts. I'll stick with Koufos and Fes for now.

Edit: Just noticed that James Johnson is still on the board. I think we'd have to consider taking him as well.

Double Edit: Someone did take James Johnson. At #11. That's way too high.

I like Teague, but if Utah doesn't offer Fes a contract next season (we'll find out the 15th) I think Mullens HAS to be the pick.
Bye Bye Sloan, Good Riddance Deron. Hello new Era in Jazz Basketball.
