Verlander, Porcello take home honors

DETROIT -- The blossom of the Tigers' pitching in May led to a pair of league honors in the opening days of June. While Justin Verlander earned American League Pitcher of the Month honors for May, fellow Detroit starter Rick Porcello was named the AL's Rookie of the Month.

Both of them went 5-0 in May, the first time two Tigers pitchers did so in the same month since Brian Moehler and Steve Sparks in August 2000. In Verlander's case, the record was only the start of the dominance.

Ha ha, Brian Moehler and Steve Sparks both went 5-0? Gosh, I was 8 years old in 2000 and remember them pitching. I also don't remember either of them being that good though Sparks had potential.

Good stuff.

Porcello's struggled his last couple times out, though. I don't expect absolute consistency from a rookie pitcher, but here's hoping he snaps out of it and doesn't lose his confidence.

Great to see for both. Porcello has the potential to be a nasty, and i mean nasty, pitcher. dude is what, 20? Him and Verlander could anchor a great rotation for years

For me, the nicest part about it is that for the whole year, neither has been our best pitcher.

We've got a real nice 1-2-3.

^ ICAM.... Going into the season... I thought our starting rotation had promise, but I never thought we'd have as solid a 1-2-3 as we've seen so far.

Though our bullpen has lived up to the promise of giving up close games and blowing leads...
