New Coach
If and when Khan fires McHale, who would you want as a new head coach.
I prefer a defensive minded coach with an aptitude for developing young talent.
I wouldn't mind either Thibodeau or Mitchel.

Re: New Coach
No to Mitchell. I dont care if he has history here, bring in someone that is qualified. TT is ok but we dont have the defensive personnel to really pull off his system and i worry about his offensive prowess.
A guy that really intrigues me is Mike Fratello. He was talked about here slightly and i think he is a very solid head coach.

Mike Fratello may be one of the worst coaches I have ever seen. There's a reason he's been hidden.
Thibideau would be a prospect that might deserve a look. I'm on the wire with Mitchell. I gotta think a certain Spurs assistant deserves a serious look as well.

McHale or Thibodeaux, no re-treads.
"hey everybody, let me introduce Lenny Wilkins!!!"
Ugh, please no re-treads. I'd immediately head for the nearest closet and tie a rope around my neck and wang.

Re: New Coach
Could we just poach an assistant from the Spurs or something? I'd rather get a talented up-and-comer with some experience under a great coach than some rehash.

Rambis anybody?
Off-topic:
Not too savy on NBA contracts and the whole CBA.
Why don't more teams sign players (bad players) to 1yr contracts to create large expirings?

Re: New Coach
They would need the cap room in order to sign the original contract. if you have the cap room you can just use that in a trade.
If we do get a new coach, it will need to be someone that Kahn is familiar with considering our short time line. Who could that be?

Why don't you consider Mitchell qualified? What other candidate has a recent "Coach of the Year" award on their mantle?
Mitchell intrigues me because he's always done a good job getting production out of point guards. Rafer Alston, Mike James, T.J. Ford, and Jose Calderon (not much else to go on here, though) all seemed to be most effective in Mitchell's system. If there's any chance that Foye can become a passable PG, of the available coaches I trust Mitchell's ability to draw it out of him the most.

I want to see them either hire Thibodeau or, going way out there, give Bill Laimbeer a chance.

As long as we get weeks of revelations afterwards about your history of designing and building S&M devices and your possible involvement with a "shadowy martial arts consortium" which sounds an awful lot like the Foot Clan.

Re: New Coach
Kahn is from Indy. I wonder if he has any connection to Mark Jackson?

I do not like it, but it could happen. As far as I know he has never coached or asst coach at any level.

Re: New Coach
It's very hard to judge Foye's performance and development when we have other issues with talent on the team. The right coach (Mitchell?) may be the ticket or maybe it's that one extra year (or two) experience he's going to need.
I do feel Foye is durable and I do think he's going to get better, but I question his upside. My question marks are mostly based on his speed and intensity ... maybe the right coach really is the key for him to change gears...

I'd be okay w/ Mark Jackson. I kinda forgot about him, but I'd be ok with it. You don't get to be #2 all time in assists with those miserable physical gifts (no offense Mark) unless you have beau coup b-ballin knowledge. PGs are natural coaches too.

I used to love watching Mark Jackson. He embodied the Keep It Simple Stupid mantra. Just backed fools down until somebody got open and then whipped a pass to them over his shoulder. I'd be intrigued if he got the job here.

Re: New Coach
I think the "no retread" rule depends on the retread.
No retread coaches with a losing record.
No retread coaches who have proven that they don't work well with a young team.
No retread coaches who bounce from team to team
That said, if Jeff Van Gundy wanted the job, I'd be all over that. I'd be interested in looking at Avery Johnson. And I don't think Sam Mitchell would be a bad guy for the job (even though he breaks my "no losing record" rule. I'd give Jeff Bzdelik an interview (and he breaks it even more)..
As for assistants: Thibideau should be interviewed, but I wonder about him--he's been a supposedly hot commodity the last few years, but never landed a job. Anyone know more about why that is? I'd also look at Johnny Davis.

I love Bzdelik. He did good things in Denver with that D-League roster.
