The Rockets hired Karnisovas last yr to be head of International Scouting and he is highly respected in Europe. And KWSN-Men pointed out Morey has made at least one trip to Europe.

What is interesting is the kind of players Morey and the Rockets are looking at. All seasoned vets who prob have another good 2-3 yrs. Players who have an itch for the NBA,but are at the point in their careers where money is not a huge issue, but going to a good situation is. Luis Scola types who may be willing to take a modest $2-3mil/yr contract.

It's unlikely Houston signs both, but if it did,the transition to the NBA would be helped by the two having played together for Tau and Scola having previously played at Tau also.

It looks like Bourousis is going to the Spurs:

http://www.48minutesofhell.com/2009/06/ ... ouroussis/

According to reports out of Greece, the Spurs have offered Bouroussis a 3 year contract worth between 10.5 and 12 million.

http://thehoop.blogspot.com/2009/06/bou ... d-nba.html

The negotiations have started about the future of Ioannis Bourousis(2.15-C) who is considered to be one of the hottest players this summer. Sportnet.gr says that there is initially a big gap between the money that Bourousis is asking and what Olympiakos are offering. It also says that the San Antonio Spurs offer him a 4 season contract whereas Olympiakos offer a 3+1 contract. It also says that San Antonio offer more money than Olympiakos at this moment in time.

Another report comes from gazzetta.gr which mentions 2 more NBA teams interested in the young Greek center apart from San Antonio and they are Memphis and Cleveland.

Hey I posted this on Friday :D

Does this mean the Spurs are giving up on Tiago Splitter ever coming over? Maybe the Rockets can pull another Scola type deal lol.

Well Tom Izzo said Goran Suton has worked out with the Spurs and Rockets so far. (he had a good workout with one team and a so so workout with the other but Izzo can't remember which one was which) so hopefully Morey gives him a chance if he doesn't get drafted or we trade for a pick.
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Splitter will join the Spurs for the 2010-11 season.

This article confirms the earlier Greek articles that Morey met with Bourousis.

http://www.talkbasket.net/blogs/san-ant ... ousis.html

He did not start playing basketball until he was 18 years old. Like Tim Duncan he began his athletic career as a swimmer, but he grew too big for the sport and just like Duncan because of this switched to basketball. The development of Bourousis since then has been quite impressive as every single year he is noticeably better than the previous year. This season he led the Euroleague in rebounding and he was the league's most efficient player per minute. He also led the Euroleague in PER. Those great stats led to the Houston Rockets GM and so-called "stats guru" Daryl Morey setting up a personal meeting with him. Bourousis was named the best center in the Euroleague, ahead of the highly touted and coveted Spurs draft pick Tiago Splitter.

A new update. Bourousis was offered a huge, huge contract by Olympiacos and he refused it. Unless he becomes the highest paid player in Europe he will leave for the NBA and the Spurs are the most probable destination. The Cavs could also be possible.

So when's the deadline for this man to accept Buford's offer?
I don't know anything about him, but based on those youtube videos he moves extremely well for a big man.

Time to bring this up again, especially with the Yao news. Very capable replacement. They won't be nearly as good, but they'll still be a playoff team if they can sign Bourousis.

I think he re-sign with Olympiacos.

Far too late. Morey had his chance to sign him and blew it.

Return to Houston Rockets
