What former NBA player do you wish you got to see more of because they played before your time?

I've always been wondering what other people would have to say about this.

Since no one has responded I have decided on a player. I have never gotten to see much of Dr. J besides all the highlights he has. I think the end of his career was around the time I was born in the mid 80s. I know he helped paved the way for how the premier guards in the NBA play today. With the high flying dunks, fancy dribbling, and the ability to hit the jump shot.

Pistol Pete Maravich.

Dr J was great for his day, but you have to take into account the competition. He was the first of his kind. Today he would be considered good, but not a superstar like he was in the 70's. Today there are dozens of guys who can do everything Dr J did and better. Think about Mike Taylor's recent dunks. Pretty amazing for a little guy, but most NBA fans have never heard of him.

This is a really tough question because there are so many. Both Pistol Pete and the doctor were two players that I would have loved to see more of. I'm going to go with the greatest NBA winner in Bill Russell. That would give me a chance to also see Hondo and a little bit of Cousy along with their other hall of famers, plus Russel's head-to-head matchups with Wilt.

I'm gonna cheat a bit and say Hakeem Olajuwon. I did watch the NBA a bit during the 90s, but it was when I wasn't into the game as much as I am now. So I never really watched many teams other than the Lakers and Clippers.

The man has like the best footwork I've seen for a center just from the videos I've watched.

I second your pick of Pistol Pete, since I did catch Dr. J at the tail end of his career.

I disagree a bit with your comment about the Doctor. You may actually be right, but you also never know how a star player from a different era would respond in the present. He would have grown up in a different climate as well, probably trained and developed differently, etc. He was an innovator in his time, maybe he would innovated differently had played 20 years later.

My answer is a much different answer than what you guys have...

Honestly, the first player that comes to my mind when asking myself this question is not an NBA superstar or even a championship winner. I vaguely remember watching any of his games, but all I can remember when watching Nick Anderson is "Man, that guy is awesome!". I wish I saw some more of Nick Anderson.

This one is easy for me. The Big O, Oscar Robertson! How in the hell does a player average a triple double in a season!? I need to see that with my own eyes.

These guys never made it to the NBA but how about Len Bias & Hank Gathers. I always loved their games & wish I could have seen more.

As far as former players go, it would be great to see Terry Cummings back. He had a sweet stroke and great form on his shot.
