My prediction about the 2nd overall pick...

Post#1 » by uNpReTtiEr » Wed Jun 10, 2009 8:36 am

I seriously feel that Danny will land that deal, but Big Baby could be a big part of that deal. Assuming the C's land that I think they would be interested in Hasheem Thabeet because of the need of a big man and he is a combination of youth and athleticism which the Celtics need. But I also heard NY is interested. It could be a 3 team trade and I predict that David Lee and Big Baby will be part of the deal. I hope that could work, Because the C's might land David Lee or Thabeet it will be interesting the next few days regarding NBA rumors.

I hope it will be Baby and the 14th pick(from Phoenix) for the 2nd pick. That would make my day, but I doubt it. They'll probably want Ray or Rondo in the deal.

Cfan, good to see you posting again. But where does the 14th pick come from? That's PHX's. And in order to get that we would have to give up ray or rondo. Might as well cut out the middle man, and just deal with memphis.

Too bad Davis didn`t sign a 3 year deal, we would have much more flexibility on draft day...

It's easy and safe to say nothing will happen, but the key to this article is that Ainge is clearly willing to make a bold move. Obviously we can speculate who will be going, but the key, like I said is that he's willing to make a bold move.

Why would Memphis want Big Baby and #14? I mean I know its Chris Wallace but come on! If we end up with the #2 pick I think Ray or Rondo is gone

This is the second most likely thing to happen. I think the most likely thing is that Memphis keeps the pick. Ray just doesn't make sense for them because he wrecks their available cap space and doesn't fill any needs, but if they don't take Rondo it's because Danny (understandably) gets cold feet about the deal.

Ray Allen makes sense if there is a 3 team deal with the third team ending up with Ray Allen.

3 way deal makes the most sense, with the #2 going elsewhere... After that, Rondo, TA, Scals for #2, Conley and Jaric makes sense. Memphis clears Jaric's contract for 10-11 and Boston gets a pg, who can shoot..

My prediction: We only approached them about it, talks didn't get serious, Memphis has only talked about how teams are inquiring about it to try to raise its value for someone like Sacramento who'd like to acquire Rubio, and that we won't end up with the pick.

Thanks, Don't take me too seriously I'm just brainfarting. I was thinking if we can swing the Phoenix deal what we'd have left to endice that bonehead Chris Wallace.

Maybe we can trade Ray, Baby and Rondo to them and pay for Allen's buyout. This way Ray can come back to us right away.

Sign and trade Big Baby and Rondo for whoever the Celtics want at #2...

I think that the value of the #2 pick is questionable at best. It is a 4 year 20 mil contract.

Rubio may well be a player but the dude has a huge buyout for next season, something like 6.5 mil. So he will lose about 2.5 mil next season to come over, I think it is safe to say he isn't going to pay that to be a Grizz. So if you are Memphis you either have to take a lesser player, move the pick, or leave him overseas and risk him getting a huge contract to just stay.

I think that Memphis may well be willing to move the pick for a ransom of future firsts or maybe something in the late lottery in this draft and future picks. I look at this draft and just don't see a difference between 2-5 and 10-15. Especially when you are talking about a 4 years 6-7 mil contract at the end of the lottery.

I mentioned in the other thread the idea of 2 and Ray Allen going to PHX, Amare going to Boston and 14 and two future first from Boston going to Memphis. Boston gets Amare and keeps Rondo, PHX gets Rubio and cap relief, and Memphis can stockpile first round picks and continue to be young, exciting and cheap which it seems is their wish.

It has to be James Harden at No.2 Nothing else makes sense unless Ainge really really wants Thabeet.

I have a prediction about the #2 pick, someone makes it and it's not DA. I can't believe this talk has spawned over a rumor... meh, it's the offseason WTH else are we going to talk about. I don't see it happening though.

#2 to Boston as well
#14 to Memphis

Way too much to give up and take on. All 3 players we'd get in that deal are overpaid. I'd rather get a proven big man for Ray's contract.

I also believe this is all talk / an innocent inquiry to see if we could get it cheap.

I'm not that excited by Rubio from what I've seen; I don't think I'd trade Rondo for anyone in the draft but Griffin.

I don't think the salary demands of the #2 pick are a big deal; this isn't like the NFL where the top picks get really obscene deals.

A deal like this only makes sense if Rondo is involved; the idea would be that we replace Rondo with Rubio - that way we delay the contract extension of our young PG and have cap room in 2010 when Ray comes off. If we trade Ray for filler that negates that advantage. And if we don't take on filler or give Rondo, there's nothing else we could trade for the #2.
