IWT's Mock Draft (Update page 2)

Post#1 » by It_Was_Typed » Sat May 23, 2009 5:44 am

1. Los Angeles Clippers - Blake Griffin...No question he's the best player in the entire draft. Pack your bags Zach Randolph.
2. Memphis Grizzlies - Ricky Rubio...Rubio is going #2, whether he stays in Memphis or not is the real question.
3. Oklahoma City Thunder - Hasheem Thabeet...James Harden could go here, but Thabeet is the anchor that OKC has been looking for.
4. Sacramento Kings - Brandon Jennings...Congrats on the first big reach of the night Sacramento.
5. Washington Wizards - Jordan Hill...Harden could also go here, but the Wizards opt for the inside presence.
6. Minnesota T'Wolves - James Harden...At this point, they get a steal in Harden who compliments Randy Foye in the backcourt.
7. Golden State Warriors - Tyreke Evans...Can't see the Warriors drafting another front court player, so Evans is the choice.
8. New York Knicks - Stephen Curry...Curry can shoot, has a high basketball IQ and the marketability. It doesn't hurt that he's friends with LeBron James.
9. Toronto Raptors - Demar DeRozan...He's at least two seasons away from contributing, but his potential is too much to pass up. Gerald Henderson is another possibility.
10. Milwaukee Bucks - DeJuan Blair...Tough, hard-nosed power forward for Coach Skiles in Milwaukee. This pick also means they'll want to keep Ramon Sessions over Charlie Villanueva.
11. New Jersey Nets - James Johnson...Versatile combo forward for the Nets to develop next to Brook Lopez and Yi Jianlian.
12. Charlotte Bobcats - Gerald Henderson...the Duke star gets selected to back up Raja Bell for a season before hopefully becoming a starter in 2010-2011.
13. Indiana Pacers - Earl Clark...Clark has the skills to be a star, it's just a question if Clark can stay focused and consistent.
14. Phoenix Suns - Jonny Flynn...Apologies to Goran Dargic, but Flynn will be the eventual successor to Steve Nash in Phoenix.
15. Detroit Pistons - Terrence Williams...The rebuilding Pistons can go in a different number of directions, but Williams is too good of an all around player to pass up.
16. Chicago Bulls - BJ Mullens - A boom or bust pick by the Bulls.
17. Philadelphia 76ers - Eric Maynor...With Andre Miller heading into free agency and Lou Williams still having trouble running PG, Maynor is the way to go.
18. Minnesota T'Wolves - Ty Lawson...The jet-quick PG has brings some faults, but he brings the winning mentality that Minnesota needs.
19. Atlanta Hawks - Jeff Teague...Teague started off well but tailed off towards the end of the season. He isn't a pure PG, but he could fit in with Joe Johnson next to him in the back court.
20. Utah Jazz - Tyler Hansbrough...A bit of a reach, but with Carlos Boozer and Paul Millsap headed to free agency, the Jazz are going to need a big man.
21. New Orleans Hornets - Gani Lawal...The Hornets can't be serious with Sean Marks and Hilton Armstrong in their rotation, so Lawal is the choice.
22. Dallas Mavericks - Jrue Holiday...Jason Kidd is old and a free agent and JJ Barea isn't going to cut it if Dallas is serious about contending.
23. Sacramento Kings - Chase Budinger...A potential steal for the Kings if Budinger stops being a ({})
24. Portland Trailblazers - Jeff Adrien...The Blazers need some toughness behind LaMarcus Aldridge at PF and no one fits that description better than Adrien.
25. Oklahoma City Thunder - Austin Daye...He's soft, but has enormous potential.
26. Chicago Bulls - Wayne Ellington...Ellington's shooting should ease the pain for the Bulls if/when Ben Gordon leaves this summer.
27. Memphis Grizzlies - Sam Young...The Grizzlies add some toughness on the wing with Young, who should be able to contribute immediatley.
28. Minnesota T'Wolves - DaJuan Summers...Summers has a NBA body, athleticism and shooting but was inconsistent this past season.
29. Los Angeles Lakers - Nick Calathes...Derek Fisher is aging, Shannon Brown is a free agent and Jordan Farmar is inconsistent so Calathes is the way to go.
30. Cleveland Cavaliers - Darren Collison...A safe pick for the Cavs. Expect Collison to be a steady, not so spectacular PG.

Harden/Lawson/Summers....very solid draft for Minnesota. I wouldn't mind seeing that at all.

If James does land in Minnesota, I hope they have a good draft.

I'm rooting for him since I know him (played with him in HS for a year).

The wizards will take Harden over Hill. The wizards are looking to win now and Hill would be #3 on the depth chart behind Jamison and Blatche while Harden should come in a start right away. Harden is the BPA and he fills a need on the team.

Unless Collison can spot up off the ball with 3pt range above 37% he isnt a good fit for the Cavaliers.

I wouldn't be surprised if that happened, in fact I'm hoping James ends up in Washington.

Collison shot at a good rate in college. He's just got to fix his mechanics a bit.

Since you know James Harden, I was wondering if you could answer some questions for me? Is his height a legit 6'5" and his wingspan really 6'11"? I'm assuming, since you're rooting for him that he's a pretty good guy, too?

I haven't seen him since he graduated from HS but he's at least 6'4 (I can't say he's a legit 6'5 with 100% confidence). Not sure about his wingspan.

And he's a great guy to be around. He got along with everyone when I was on the team.

OK, cool, thanks. I'm really hoping for him on the Wolves, but unfortunately I'm thinking the Wizards take him. Harden/Lawson is really my best case scenario for the Wolves on draft night, we need a full starting back court and have Randy Foye be our 6th man in a Jason Terry type of role.

Welp, now that Nick Calathes has opted for Greece I guess I got to change the Lakers' pick.

I'll go with Dionte Christmas since he brings the shooting the Lakers need. The Lakers are struggling to stretch the floor because of Radmanovic's departure and Vujacic's shooting struggles. I would go with a big man but I don't think there are any worthy candidates. Meh.

Very solid mock. Everthing here is very possible.

big3: I think Harden will measure out at 6'5'', but I doubt his wingspan will be that long if I had to guess. He is plenty big enough to play SG in the NBA though.

I think that the Jazz would probably go with Holiday over Hansbrough. Neither Milsap or Boozer can opt out until after the draft is over (July 1), if I understand correctly.

Yeah, Hansbrough over Holliday and Budinger would be an epic fail pick

Millsap is a free agent and Boozer from what's being reported will be opting out.

I agree with Sendai about the Jazz. Hansbrough is a logical choice, but Holiday has so much more potential and could be a great fit long term--Tyler would be just a stop gap till we used New York's 2010 pick on a power forward (Craig Brackins?).

Don't see the Kings reaching on Brandon Jennings at all.

One of Rubio, Thabeet or Harden will be available at #4 and any one of them would be a better choice for the Kings than Jennings.

I had Mills going to Dallas but I forgot to put Holiday in the mock, so I took out Mills.

However, I do feel he is a first round talent. Just depends on what other teams do (T'Wolves, Thunder, Kings).

Not bad for the Wolves. I just want to see more size in the backcourt.
