Quick trade Question

Post#1 » by daddyfivestar » Tue Jun 9, 2009 11:35 pm

If Bibby is retained, and without a starting Center but looking to compete with CLE/BOS/ORL now... does Atlanta have interest in Andrew Bynum (with clean physical of course), in a 3-way with Memphis?

Other expanded package options could be to add in Farmar for Law to enhance the playoff exp'd level of the second unit. #29 is also avail from LA as sweetener, but if Bynum is not on the radar then it makes no sense.

It would depend on what Atlanta has to give up.

I would have to think Bynum is on the radar irregardless of whether we resign Bibby. The ?s of what's the price, why would LAL part with a good young C, and how can we deal with his BYC issues immediately jump to mind, but we'd definitely been interested...

Bynum's BYC doesn't start until July so this would be a June deal. Memphis seeking Horford.

LA can do Bynum, Jordan F,#29 and H Warrick for Horford, Law.

Warrick final year of rook deal, Farmar is final year or 1 more QO.

Still have Speedy to dangle and all your picks + 29

On the why is LA dealing Bynum: need to resign Odom + Ariza to remain frontrunners. Kobe has 3-5 yrs so its now time.

Bynum is a poison pill player- thats even more restrictive than BYC

But the question is then, who are the Lakers getting. If it is the #2, I would rather deal Horford for #2 than get Bynum.

I guess it's possible. Something to the effect of Bynum to ATL, Smith to MEM, and Conley or Rubio to LAL would work. Due to Bynum's BYC, there couldn't be too many other moving parts though.

I guess we'd have to consider it. Bynum is a true C and it isn't a stretch to see him as a 15 point / 10 boards / 2 block guy for the next 7-10 years with the possibility of being more. MEM gets the PF that fits with Gasol and who they signed to an offer sheet last year (and also means that the deal couldn't go down until August). LAL? Maybe, maybe not. The fact that the deal has to wait until August would be disconcerting though, especially if they're doing it to resign their FAs.

"Have to consider it"? We'd be crazy not to DO it. A lineup of Bynum/Horford (or Smoove)/Marvelous/Joe/PG would be killer.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

His PP value is 13.1
His byc is 12.5 and half that

Which ever way works best for ATL; will need Speedy in for the $.

On the other question:
Memphis asked for Josh but I didn't even consider that, under this ATL's window is now concept I've heard about on the trade board. Josh makes the #s work much easier. Since they are only 6 months apart in age, I'd think longterm Josh would be the choice to stay... but I don't see him every game. The real question is whether Horford can play 5 regularly? If not, he has value for a true C.

LA needs about 13 mil of 2010 room to retain Odom/Ariza and continue the ch'ip run in Kobe's prime; and unless they're going into the 90 mil zone in payroll (not likely since the Lakers are the Buss family main business now), something has to give.

Are you suggesting that LA would just dump Bynum? Like trade him for a future MEM pick instead of Rubio/Conley? Uh, wow.

Yeah, if we're talking Bynum, then I could see Smith becoming available if it gets the deal done. Obviously we'd want a full medical eval before we do anything and that would go further to taking Smith out of the deal than the Horford or Smith ? we face, since then the deal couldn't go down until August.

With Memphis under the cap in July, it might be easier to design a trade then.

With Josh and Speedy, it can be done July 1st it looks even with the BYC $ since LA is not taking any salary back - why wait 'til Aug?
Clearly a full physical and strength testing of the knee would need to be performed on Bynum.

Here's an ATL scenario:

Draft day - #19 Terrence Williams SG/SF. LA drafts two big forwards for ATL #29 Josh Heytvelt (PF/C)and #59 Alade Aminu (PF/SF). At #49, draft rights to Sergio Llull PG and keep him in Spain another year or two.

Trade - in Bynum, Farmar, Warrick, rights to #29 and #59 for Smith and Claxton (both to Memphis)

Re-sign Bibby at 2/12 (5.5 & 6.5)
Re-sign Pachulia at 2/6 (3 & 3)

'09-'10 payroll = under 62 mil

Bibby (5.50)/Farmar (1.95)/Law (2.22)
Joe (14.98)/Mo (2.5)/TWilliams (1.20)
Marvin (7.36)/Warrick (3.02)/Aminu (.46)
Horford (4.31)/Heytvelt (.83)/Jones (1.03)
Bynum (12.50)/Zaza (3.00)/Morris (.86)

Make a run now and have a future build around Horford, Bynum up front and TWilliams, Llull in the backcourt.

If Josh Smith ends in MEM, it can't be done before mid-Aug, because he signed an offer with them last summer, and can't be traded to MEM for one year.

On the trade, if we get Bynum to play center, and keep Horford, I don't think we need all these bigs in the draft, at least it would depend on what we do on free agency before this trade.

ahh yes, the ole offer letter. totally forgot that happened.

The bigs were just depth. TWilliams is the catch who can backup up the wings and move into one of the starting roles eventually. I also considered Hansborogh at 19...

i would rather try to resign flip as a back-up point and 2, trade Law, andersen rights and 19 to catch T-Evans and get Beaubois at 29

Bibby- Farmar (to be traded later during the season)-Flip- beaubois
JJ- T. Evans- Flip
Marv- Mo Evans
horford- solo- FA?or Hunter
Bynum-Zaza- Morris

You could probably swap Farmar to the Clips for Skinner straight out to be b/u the PF. He's a good defensive player/rebounder and they'll have extra bigs after Griffin comes. Farm will be a b/u PG upgrade over Mike Taylor (and he's an LA product so they'll probably like that).
