Trade Scal + Tony + Gabe + min. sal. S&T for MARCUS CAMBY

Post#1 » by Jammer » Thu Jun 11, 2009 4:52 am

Ok, Real GMers.

This trade actually works.

If the Clips draft Blake Griffin, a true PF,
and keep Chris Kaman, a true center,

that leaves them with two high paid Bigs.
Zach Randolph and 35 year old Marcus Camby.

Zach is probably much tougher to move.

The Celtics could offer, for 35 year old Marcus Camby,

Brian Scalabrine
Tony Allen
Gabe Pruitt
Michael Olowokandi (3 year Contract Sign & Trade, at vet minimum, only first year guaranteed,
Clips waive Olowokandi without ever letting him enter building, even skipping physical).
Kandi gets one years pay of $1 million for breathing).

This also leaves the Celtics with the full MLE and LLE for use on other free agents.

Since the trade is a 4 for 1, the Celtics should receive a future second round pick from the Clippers as well.

The Celtics should obviously target Grant Hill, could re-sign Scot Pollard, and try to buy another pick (Minnesota's #28 pick is supposedly for sale, as is Sacrameto's #31 pick).

Celtics after Trade:

Center: Kendrick Perkins/Marcus Camby/Glen Davis/Scot Pollard??
PF: Kevin Garnett/Glen Davis/Grant Hill/Leon Powe (Injured List till February)
SF: Paul Pierce/Grant Hill/Bill Walker
SG: Ray Allen/J. R. Giddens
PG: Rajon Rondo/Steph Marbury/#58 pick

I can't see LA being interested in our failed projects and our token white guy for a player as good as camby, nm throwing in a 2nd pick to boot. I'd be all for it, but I'm sure LA can do better.

Camby is an sold veteran center who is expiring. This trade makes zero trade for the clippers...

Why would anyone want that package? I know its the Clippers but those three have little to no value to any team I imagine. Are all three of those players expiring at the end of next season?

1. Clippers reduce their 2010 payroll by $1.7 million
2. Camby supposedly wants to play for a winner, and probably a more mature team as well

I think even cheap teams like to save face. I am sure they can find better offers for Camby then that. LMAO.

So they trade 1 expiring good player for 4 expiring bad players?

Great idea.

2008-07-15 Clippers Marcus Camby, Nuggets option to swap 2010 second round picks with Clippers (?-?) Nuggets option to swap 2010 second round picks with Clippers (?-?) trade with Nuggets

Oh, is this more embarassing then being traded for a second round pick?

Yes, it is.
The Denver / LA trade was a salary dump.

This proposal is not even a salary dump - it's an exchange of ultimately equivalent expiring contracts, conveniently designed so that Camby comes to us and the worthless guys go to the Clippers.

It's an extraordinarily silly proposal. It would make some sense if Camby had years left on his contract and actually had remaining salary to dump, or perhaps if the Clippers couldn't get anything better and we gave them a decent draft pick. But this proposal is not appreciably better than the nothing they will get by letting him walk.

I admit that a trade like this ran through my mind before I realized that Camby's contract is expiring.

I meant embarrassing for Camby, I agree there is no value for the Clippers in making that deal unless they think Pruitt and Allen have a future in the league.

Zero incentive for the Clips. Gotta throw in a future #1 or just wait for them to buyout Camby near the deadline.

Return to Boston Celtics
