Trade Idea - Bos/Philly
Trade Idea just for fun:
Boston trades Ray Allen, Gabe Pruitt to Philly
Philly trades Sam Dalembert, Louis Williams, #17 pick to Boston
Philly is looking to unload Dalembert (2yrs deal) and need a SG. Boston gets a big to go with Perk, KG & Baby and a backup PG plus the #17 pick.
Just for fun, what do fellow Celtics fans think?

Re: Trade Idea - Bos/Philly
I'm thinking that Dalambert would end up as the Celtic's next Kandiman...
I think we could do better to keep things the way they are as much as possible....
Maybe we can get a free agent who wants a chance to win a title to fill that backup role?....theres no need to trade a top notch player like Ray to get one...JMO

I agree. I'm of the opinion that the Celtics shouldn't trade any of their starting 5 but I was bored and just threw it out there.

Ray should only be moved for another All Star we aren't rebuilding.

Re: Trade Idea - Bos/Philly
I was just looking at the unrestricted free agaent list and literally there's a ton of big men available....so many, that with a few exceptions, the price should be fairly reasonable to pick up a big or even to keep our own....
I'd be very happy to resign both Big Baby and Powe....but would love to get a Chris Anderson, Chris Wilcox or a Gortat if we lose one of them....Maglore might be OK too or even Jason Collins or Sean Marx maybe?
Lots of possibilities for cheap without having to trade our corps players...

Re: Trade Idea - Bos/Philly
so, we trade our all star sg for a backup center and undersized sg in a pg body?
the goal is to win another couple championships while kg is here.
u don't do that by trading your all stars for backups and young guys. that is the kind of thing u do in 3 years or so.
What u do now is either extend allen for modest money, 11-12m a year for 2 more years after and use the mle and some small trades.
or u trade all star ray for all star so and so. Like if we traded ray for tmac. risky from injuries, but could bring another ring if healthy.

This trade would make a rival Atlantic team better and make us worse. So I'm going with a big NO Mister Wigglesworth.

Re: Trade Idea - Bos/Philly
Listen,
I am indifferent on whether we trade Ray or not. I feel that if we do it will be for a potential upgrade and not as a salary dump.
With that said this is a deal I would be interested in. I am not sure if Charlotte would be, but it would fill alot of needs for us and they would save ALOT of money.
Ray Allen, Scal,
for
G. Wallace, Raja Bell, and Nazr Mohammad
This fills a need for a 6th man with some scoring punch in Wallace. I think you start Raja Bell, who can hit the three ball and man up on the other teams best player. Nazr would be a much more useful player than the Miki Moores of the world. Say we resign Davis and Marbury we have a solid first and second unit. This would effectively let us rest PP and KG more during the year as well.
Rondo
Bell
Pierce
KG
Perk
Marbury
House
Wallace
Baby
Nazr

That's a pretty decent trade from a Boston perspective. Plus you know MJ would love having his buddy Ray down in Charlotte with em.mwhis21 wrote:Ray Allen, Scal,

Re: Trade Idea - Bos/Philly
haha thanks...I've been thinking about the deal for a couple of weeks now. With our cap situation and needing to resigne Power and Davis I just don't see us getting any real help without making a deal...with all the Ray Deals out there, I feel that people are missing the point of dealing him.

Re: Trade Idea - Bos/Philly
I like the idea of the Charlotte trade, but they probably don't do it unless the C's take on even MORE salary.
Even without Wallace and Nazr on the books for 2010-2011, Charlotte would likely still be over $40 million including this year's 1st and an extension for Felton. Now, if the Celtics could adsorb Vlad Rad, Diaw or Diop in the deal that could give Charlotte a real cost savings and set them up for either the 2010 or 2011 offseason...

Re: Trade Idea - Bos/Philly
If it was fantasy basketball the CHA trade is a good for Boston but it isn't it. Gerald Wallace just isn't that good, they have different strengths and weaknesses but it is like trying to win with Al Harrington. You can't count on them enough through the 82 games or in a 7 game series. I don't dislike Bell or Mohammud but they are overpriced journeymen. You can get comparable players in FA for half as much money, at least Bell is expiring Nazr has 13.5 mil coming to him over the next two seasons and he was a total non factor last season.
If you are replacing Ray you need a player that the opponent has to continue to game plan for even though they are essentially a 3rd offensive option. Nobody double teams or schemes for Gerald Wallace as a primary option. I like him as a player and you have to like his defense but I just want someone who is a better shooter or better offensively. I also think Nazrs' money is non starter.

Re: Trade Idea - Bos/Philly
If I'm trading Ray to Charlotte I start with Diaw and Bell. Diaw has a more sound overall game than Wallace and he is truly capable of backing up both Pierce and KG, while still providing some spacing, playmaking, and scoring. That wouldn't be enough salary wise though, and I'm not sure Mohammed brings anything that the Celtics need, probably a 3rd string C.
I'll tell you though I wouldn't mind a final roster of:
Rondo/House
Bell/TA?
Pierce/Diaw
KG/McDyess/Scal/Powe
Perkins/McDyess/Mohammed
I think that Diaw would allow the Celtics to use House as a backup PG because he can serve as a Point Forward type to alleviate full court pressure.

Re: Trade Idea - Bos/Philly
A fantasy trade? Sound like you have been burned playing Fantasy Basketball
Sully, look at the numbers.
Raja Bell was top 15 in terms of 3pt field goal percentage at 42% shooting on average of 4 of game...and that number is deflated because of lack of playing time in Phoenix. To boot he can take a lot of pressure of Pierce by guarding the opposing teams best player.
Gerald Wallace would immediately be a top candidate for 6th man of the year...he scores, rebounds, was top 10 in steals, 3 assts, a block per game and is another great defender.
We would probably be the best defensive team in the league again a la 2008.
I am so sick of people saying if we trade Allen it has to be for another All-Star. No it doesn't, but it should fill the holes that we can't via free agency. The reason why Allen/Pierce were border line useless is that neither of them are good at creating their own shots and they were tired.
Tell me: who would you sign in free agency better than acquiring Wallace, Bell and Mohammad?

Re: Trade Idea - Bos/Philly
dalember is inconsistent plus he's injury prone and has a bad contract. why would you trade an expiring contract to get locked into multiple years of a bad deal with dalembert? I like lou williams but he's another undersized 2 guard and the 17th pick in this draft is like the 44th pick in a regular draft. this is not a good deal for us. Again, the team that gets the best player wins. Ray allen is the best player in this deal by a country mile
"Now, there's a steal by Bird..!"

Re: Trade Idea - Bos/Philly
If dealing with Charlotte, I could like this deal better. Ray and Scalabrine for Diaw, Radmanovic, Diop and Ajinca. From this you're adding a player that provides length, size, defense or shooting, and players that can run with Rondo. I like it, the worst contract being that of Diop's. And Diaw's contract is long but less than G. Wallace's in total amount. But, they're all under the age of thirty.
