Neither Tomic nor Dragicevic will join Jazz this year

Neither of the Jazz's 2008 second-round draft picks, Croatian center Ante Tomic or Serbian forward Tadija Dragicevic, will be coming to the Jazz this season. Tomic reportedly will sign with Euroleague power Maccabi Tel Aviv in what could be the next step before making the jump to the NBA.

Well that puts that to rest.

Didn't expect them anyway.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I guess that is kind of cool... not really sure.

I can't wait to see what Tomic can do. I really hope he pans out.

Sadly we'll never see either in a Jazz uni and in 5 years Tomic will be lighting the Jazz up

I don't think Tomic is ready by any means. I'm afraid he would be eaten alive in the NBA right now. He needs to get to a high-profile European team (there have been rumors linking him to Maccabi and that would be a good move) and get some serious Euroleague experience. The Jazz need to be patient and let him gradually develop.
Dragicevic, on the other hand, just doesn't seem like he's ever going to be NBA material. Plus, he just had a very difficult season.

I want to see Tomic in a Jazz uniform though.

Its clear Tomic is not NBA ready due to his lack of body size but why not bring him over and stick him in the D-league? Might as well get him prepared as much as you can and maybe the trainers over here can convince him to bulk up a bit.

If he signed with Maccabi, it would be better for him to stay there than to go to the D-League.

Yeah, I want to see Tomic develop then come over. I really don't want to have to wait a few years for a finished project sitting on the Jazz bench. I'd rather have somebody come over who can help immediately.

Maccabi's competition might be slightly better than the d-league. The d-league is a lot closer to the style of the nba and rules, as well.

The Israeli League? Yes.

Euroleague? No.

Maybe he can learn something under Pini Gershon.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tomic will also be playing against much better players daily in practice if he's on Maccabi rather than being in the D-League. Utah is also in a financial bind this offseason, so they need all the $$$ they can keep in their pocket to resign our rotation bigs.

The competition in the Euroleague is not slightly better than the D-League, it's far better. It's not even close. If Tomic has a couple of years with Maccabi he should be ready for the NBA.

Tomic will benefit from playing with Maccabi. I am happy the Jazz are keeping pegs on this guy though, he's obviously improving.

Lmao @ "Maccabi's competition is slightly better than the D-League"....that is the exact kind of talk that gets the European fans all up in a dither about arrogant Americans.

As for Tomic...I don't know that he will ever be NBA material. He is a lot like Pau Gasol, frow everything I've read and from the clips I've watched, but even skinnier and weaker than Pau, and without anywhere near the amazing skills that Gasol possesses. Best case scenario is if he spends the next two or three years developing the ability to bang with bigger and meaner players and then comes over and becomes our 3rd big guy off the bench. Trust me, if you guys think Boozer or Memo are soft, wait till you get a load of this dude.

It's free for the Jazz to have him overseas, plus he'll be getting pro ball experience for a championship team instead of D-league experience. which we have to pay him for.

So he's nothing like Gasol then? :-?

But really, he's a low maintanence project. Leave him over in europe for a couple of years and see what happens.

Dragicevic on the other hand will never get close to putting on a jazz uniform IMO.
