Jennings talks a lot of mess.

Post#1 » by Calinks » Sat Jun 13, 2009 2:15 am

This is like the second or third time I heard him talking about other PG's this week. I kind of like that he is that confident in his abilities though. I wonder how good he really can be in comparison to the other PG's in the draft. Does anyone have any in-depth info on him or opinions?

I kind of giggled a little bit when he talked about knowing what it takes to be a true point guard in the NBA. Um, uh, ok... Typically back-up SG in Europe doesn't really give you true NBA point guard experience.

Now my "love" for Jennings is well know, and I'm not saying he'll end up bad. I just think he's bad for the Wolves, but in the right system he could turn out decent. I don't think he's championship caliber.

But yeah, he knows nothing about being an NBA caliber point guard just yet. Get in the league first ebfore you start talking ish. Oh, and maybe stop dodging workouts.

i just posted about this elsewhere. On Rubio:

"The only thing I've seen him do sometimes is when he has a home-run pass or something like that. I think the dude is just all hype"

If this isnt a case of the pot calling the kettle black then i truly dont know what is.

He has about as much of a history being a PG that Holiday and Evans do, and that extent is high school. Nothing more.

Evans was a 2 in HS, I think...I don't think he was a PG until John Calipari threw him in at the 1, but still relatively unproven as a PG, yeah.

From DX:

It's not quite clear why analysts (or his coaching staff for that matter) are so surprised at the success he's found at the point—it was after all the only position we've ever saw him play from watching him in high school, prep school and the AAU circuit over the last three years. Clearly he is not “learning the position from scratch” like many have suggested.

Brian "The Janitor" Cardinal can unclog a drain. What's that worth?

JENNINGS: Probably New York. My man Kevin Love, he’s trying to get me to Minnesota, I read that on ESPN. The Washington Wizards, they need another point guard, so those types of teams. The teams that just want to run.

Wow, I completely disliked Jennings for his horrible attitude, size, and lack of production... but now that K-Love has endorsed him, I think he is 100% without a doubt bpa!

He clearly has the talent and athletic ability to be a good NBA PG at least offensively, my concern with Jennings is that he lacks the mentality of leader, team player and winner.

Every time I have seen him play or heard him talk its all about him or making himself look better. That is not the mentality of a PG or a guy i'd want to build around as he'd rather make the risky pass to make a highlight then make the right pass for a hockey assist.

Much like Telfair he also dominates the ball which in my opinion doesn't work at the NBA level unless they can really shoot and or have a great shot selection neither of which apply to him. A questionable shooter (AT BEST) that has the ball all the time and is turnover prone due to being a risky/flashy passer screams of high bust potential in my mind.

Is he too talented to pass up at #18? Most years i'd say yes but with guys like Patty Mills and Jeff Teague in this draft possibly also being around he isn't even my preferred PG in that range of the draft nevermind that i'd also rather see Austin Daye, Gerald Henderson, Chase Budinger, James Johnson, BJ Mullins, Earl Clark, Terrence Williams or Sam Young get their name called.

At #6 i'm fine with Tyreke Evans, James Harden, Jrue Holiday, Stephen Curry and maybe Demar DeRozan but if they draft Jennings i'm done with liking this team even if Al Jefferson is my favorite player.

Looks like at this early, you can say there will be some trouble having Jennings in your team. There will be character issues.

They played AAU ball together. They know each other.

And since when is Minnesota a team that likes to run. Can you see Jefferson and Jennings meshing? Jennings likes to pound the ball until he gets a flashy pass, Jefferson likes the ball dumped to him early so he can go to work. Jennings might actualy cringe having to pass to Jefferson and then stand around. He'd probably make the pass and then go grab a glass of Gatorade mid-game.

If Jennings is there at #18 you have to take him just because of value. If we got Evans or Holiday at #6, I'd take Jennings and trade him instantly for greater value, like Earl Clark if he also slipped and a future pick? Or something along the lines of a guy we'd want at #18 and future value.

And what exactly would Tyreke Evans do?

Ooh, I've been called out. ;-)

Evans would attack, D-Wade style! And if he can't flush it himself, he'd dish to the open Jefferson. They'd be best friends forever. And when he dumps it in, Evans doesn't exactly just stand around, he'll run around screens and move well without the ball. Backdoor cuts for lay-ups.

Probably attack the basket and dip his testes in the opposing center's mouth, or attack the basket and dump it off to Jefferson so he can get the easy deuce.

But he is such a great shooter all he would have to do is wait for the team to double since he has all nba range!

I like my point guards to tell it like it is, yo. I hate it when they be frontin' on reporters.

...I liked Jennings conceptually - high school phenom who realized college wasn't for him and tried his chops amongst the pros - but have you seen his shot? Every time he shoots it's a fall-away, even when there's no one near him...like you can hear him counting "three. two. ...for the win!!!" in his head.

I would much rather have Curry over this bum,...at least until they start playing and I want to change my mind.

Gomes wants him too. on twitter he told him he wanted him to get drafted by the wolves and prove his haters wrong by getting ROY.

And despite being faster, more athletic, a better ball handler, and a better passer, Jennings wouldn't be able to do those things? :-?
