Griffin AND Rubio

Post#1 » by ClipperEric » Fri Jun 12, 2009 5:35 pm

What do you guys think about going for an all-out youth movment? What do you say we trade the future, for the future?

What I mean is, trying to make a play for Rubio as well as Griffin. We already have GORDON, THORNTON and GRIFFIN, plus DJ and MIKE TAYLOR have some big potential. That's a nice young nucleus. But we're missing a Grade A Point Guard.

What if we trade everybody who's over 27, plus future draft picks, to get an additional pick for Rubio?

The key being giving up future picks for this years #2 or #3. We'd have to give up protections on them of course. Everybody knows our picks are always valuable, so why not trade 1 lotto pick this year for 2 future lotto picks?

Kaman is at the cusp. He's only 27 and I'm not sure if he's in the team's future plans. If not, trade bait. Without him we don't have much else other than picks, as Zbo and BD seem to be big negatives.

1. RUBIO/TAYLOR
2. GORDON
3. THORNTON
4. GRIFFIN
5. KAMAN/DJ

We would struggle for a couple of years, but the potential would be amazing.

Nah. I'm satisfied with pairing Griffin with Baron. I'll let Baron redeem himself this upcoming season. I'ts not like he's incapable of being that "Grade A Point Guard" you speak of. Plus, I'm still not buying Rubio. We really don't need Rubio and we really don't need to get younger. We have the right players to make moves to actually win next season and/or the season after that. Trading TWO future draft picks for Rubio is not worth it. Not that the Thunder or Grizzlies would even consider that.

Also, many people suggest to trading for a defensive/more fundamentally tuned SF.

I'd be pretty much willing to do whatever it takes to land Rubio in this draft without giving up Gordon and Griffin. I really think something with Memphis that involved Camby would work. Camby, a futrue 1st, and the Wolves pick for the 2nd pick, Jaric, and Buckner may work. The Grizz save about 10 million be acquiring Camby for those two guys and they also save around 4 by not having to pay a pick this year.

Clippers don't have the assets outside of Griffin/Gordon/Jordan to land another pick to get Rubio. If Kaman's value were a that of the 15/10/2 mid-20's center he is capable of being when healthy, then maybe the Clips could pull something off but it's just not in the cards this summer unfortunately.

How about you guys just trade Zbo + Kaman + Davis in a trade like this:

LAC trades 3 future firsts (atleast 1 unprotected) + Zbo + Kaman + Davis + Thornton for #3 Pick, Nick Collison, Earl Watson, Corey Maggette and Jamal Crawford.

GSW trades Maggette, Crawford, Turiaf & Bellineli for Zbo + Davis + Thornton + a future first.

OKC trades Collison + Watson + 3rd for 2 firsts + Kaman + Wright

Rubio/Watson/Collins
Gordon/Crawford/Bellineli
Maggette/Bellineli/Davis?
Griffin/Turiaf/Collison
Camby/DJ/Turiaf

Davis/Ellis/Morrow
Jackson/Ellis/Morrow
Thornton/Azubuike/Morrow
Zbo/AR4/Davidson
Biedrins/Draftpick/Kurz

Westbrook/Livingston/Atkins
Sefolosha/Weaver/Atkins
Durant/Weaver/Wright
Green/Wright/White
Kaman/Kristic

I'd love to be able to add Rubio or even Harden without giving up either Griffin or Gordon, but I don't think we have the right combination of assets where both sides would be happy. I have no comment on the trade from sd1306.

We also can't ensure the rookies stay after their contracts why stay with a team if the continue to struggle. Like Phil Jackson said we are a team that stacks up on young talent but have no idea what to do with them.

We have to have a "win now" mental state of mind because if not we will continue to wait for someething to happen.

I would love Harden on this team as well. I'd give Kaman up in a deal revolving around a Kaman/Harden trade.

Guys, Memphis will already be under the league minimum this year, we aren't allowed to save any more money. We've gone as cheap, as is allowed by league rules. Saving money isn't as option. You must spend at least 75% of the luxury tax threshold which this year will probably be aroung 56mil. When everything is said and done we're gonna be around 42mil, which is right at that 75% mark.
