Why? He is done.

Because of that one game in in Sept/Oct.
He is done, but I could definitely see him giving us hell if given the chance.
Him going to Tampa would be interesting, considering the bad blood he used to have with the franchise. Remember when that dude charged him (his name is escaping me...Gerald something?) and Pedro just swung at him? lol

Uh, no I'm talking about this incident...

Pedro takes fight from Rays
Boston's ace is nearly perfect in a game that features 8 Devil Rays getting ejected.

The Tropicana Field scoreboard reflected the specifics, an 8-0 Boston victory and a dazzling one-hit performance by Red Sox ace Pedro Martinez, who carried a no-hit bid into the ninth.

But there was no way it could tell the full story of Tuesday's game.

Not with eight Devil Rays ejected, two bench-clearing skirmishes, four hit batters, a handful of punches thrown, two Boston players at the hospital, accusations of cheap shots leveled at Boston's Brian Daubach, complaints of a double-standard for Martinez, and some taunting comments by Martinez that there may be more to come.

"Hopefully, it won't get any crazier than that," Rays catcher John Flaherty said. "I'm not proud to stand here and say I was part of that game."

All the storylines and subplots revolved around the extraordinarily talented Martinez, whom the Rays had faced three straight times without a loss, the only American League team to have such success.

Martinez hit Gerald Williams on the left hand with his fourth pitch, setting in motion a sequence of events that made this one of the most bizarre games anywhere. Williams charged the mound, nearly knocking Martinez off his feet with a forceful shove and then landing a punch with an overhand right.

By the end:

Eight Devil Rays were ejected, as many as had been all season. Williams was tossed for charging the mound and manager Larry Rothschild for arguing that Martinez should have been tossed. Pitchers Dave Eiland, Cory Lidle and Tony Fiore were tossed for throwing at Boston batters, and coaches Bill Russell and Jose Cardenal, the acting managers at the time, went with them.

Thanks for reminding me about Pedro/Zimmer though.

Good god that never gets old. I remember watching that live and I was in absolute tears. Manny over-reacting to a ball nowhere near him. I forgot how much trash Pedro used to talk for a guy who was 5'10 167 lbs

Papi is batting .342 in June and this team is on a roll. Won another series here against the Marlins - would be nice to sweep them up tonight. Got Jon Lester going... and you almost expect him to be perfect out there these days.

Brad Penny seems to be in I'm-not-losing-my-spot-in-the-rotation mode, and this overstock of pitching is kind of a nice problem to have. It looks like we are expanding to the six man rotation, which isn't a bad move. Any chance Dice-K gets moved to the bullpen at some point? And where is Smoltz's roster spot coming from? And for that matter Lowrie's? Lugo seems to be hitting ridiculous while fighting for his job but the defense seems to be same old same old. Is Nick Green on the way out? He's been too serviceable to just dump him.

Lots of problems for us, none of them bad :D

I don't think they'll put Dice in the pen, he's just never been that kind of pitcher. Hopefully he turns it around soon though, because it's brutal what he's been giving us lately. Atleast last year he was getting wins while boring us, now he's getting shelled and looking terrible while doing so.

Probably deserves its own thread, but whatever:

The Yankees and their scouts are assembling a team of high school stars (rising juniors and seniors) to play a team assembled by Red Sox scouts. Most of the players will be from the Northeast, but a handful will be from different places around the country.

The Yankees will have Bryce Harper on their roster. Harper is the 16-year-old super prospect who was a Sports Illustrated cover story earlier this month. Damon has developed a good relationship with the Harper family.

Sounds pretty cool. Definitely something I'd like to check out depending on how much they'll be bending people over at the box office.

Can they at least wait the 5 years or so that Harper has to play for the Nationals before they fit him with a Yankee uniform.

So that's how pitching depth disappears...

Daisuke Matsuzaka will miss at least his next start in the rotation and an MRI will be performed on his shoulder, Red Sox Manager Terry Francona said Saturday afternoon.

"When you take a guy out of the rotation," said Franconca, "you take a guy out of the rotation to fix it."

I'm glad though, he was hurting the team more than helping it by pitching. He was pitching like Clay did last year.

I'm a big Daisuke fan, but it is for the best and I think it was handled the right way. Even without Daisuke we still have a staff that is 6-7 deep depending on whether or not you count Bowden.

If anyone from the minors will be starting with the big club anytime soon it will be Buccholz, not Bowden.

I was at the game on Sunday. Great game. No one expected Green to go deep there. Was wondering what the whole ejection thing was about. No one in the stands had the slightest clue (except for maybe those with a good view of balls/strikes).

Anyway, it was around the 4th inning that a foul ball struck the guy in front of me in the head. The guy was hurt pretty bad, left and I think he went to the hospital. I felt bad, but ya gotta be payin attention. My two buddies thought it was hilarious and we all shared a laugh once he was gone.

Oh I definitely agree, but he's still nice depth to have as a backup 4 or 5 if we were to ever hit a run of bad luck.

RSN set the attendance record for Nat's stadium last night. I'm going tonight and tomorrow - should be a blast. Smoltzie tomorrow is gonna be great.
