I'm just saying that a lotto pick is alot to give up if Sacramento is only able to keep Rondo for 1 year.

I hear ya. I just think the Kings would make sure they could resign him before they make this deal. Fairest thing I could come up with.
Beno, Thompson, #4 for Rondo, One of Pruitt, Giddens or Walker, Plus Tony Allen and Scalabrines expiring contracts.
sacramento can roll udrihs money into extending Rondo. Plus get another decent prospect.

Yeah, and Rondo is a lot to give up for a unproven lotto pick who won't contribute for 2 years or more and the privilege of overpaying Nocioni, a 3/4 with great range who can't guard 3s (who are too fast for him) or 4s (who are too strong and tall for him).
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

Re: Sacramento open to discussing their fourth pick with C's
The reason I made the deal bigger than this earlier is that the Celtics don't really have the appropriate filler. It would clearly work for Sacramento to get back Scalabrine and Tony Allen as the filler, but those are the only expiring contracts the Celtics have. The Celtics might just as well go to New Orleans, admit they shouldn't have let Posey go and try to trade Scalabrine and Tony Allen for Posey as it is well known that New Orleans is looking to shed contracts and they get a player in Allen who could finally put it together as opposed to Denver previously getting nothing for Camby. The Celtics save $4 million over Nocioni and they know Posey fits. Now the Celtics move past the Kings deal directly with Memphis and assure themselves of the player they want. Rondo,Davis (sign and trade) for Conley, #2 and Greg Buckner. Grizzlies get two young starters in another town that needs winning culture. Celts experiment with Conley while getting a vet PG and don't have to worry about any draft day shenanigans to get the player Ainge is targeting.Bac2Basics wrote:Sacramento isn't trading Jason Thompson. Petrie picked him at #12 when everyone was talking about him as a late 1st and possibly not a first rounder at all. Petrie's connected to him for better or worse, luckily for the Kings so far it's been better.
I think that Sacramento recognizes that trading for something more proven (Rondo) clearly has some additional value versus a draft pick, but unless something's worked out pre-deal the Kings would be looking at a 1 year rental which is not good enough when you're talking about a high lotto pick. I think if this does happen it would have to be figured out to make it make sense for the Kings.
I think the deal that may make the most sense would be something along the lines of #4 & Nocioni for Rondo and some appropriate filler.

Re: Sacramento open to discussing their fourth pick with C's
The kings cant do it. We cant add any combo of number 4 pick ( hawes/thompson / or martin) it depletes our core. And who WOULD PLAY POWER FORWARD???
We would have no starting power forward at all. Who tony allen? Come on now we can't do it. And dont suggest we get a STARTING power forward with the 23 pick. We would be lucky to get a bench player at 23.
So if the celtics want the 4 pick and thompson kings CANT and WONT do it.
we would rather have hawes/martin/thompson and rubio rather then hawes/martin/rondo
And kings fans know that if rondo comes here 1 of 2 things will happen. He wont be nearly as good as he is playing with the talent with the celtics or he will cost an arm and a leg and maybe not even re-sign with the kings in 2 years.
Cons of rondo
1) due for an extension very soon
2) not a good shooter
3) wont be as good in sacramento as he is with his celtics teammates.
Now is that worth 4 pick ? Yes is that worth 4 pick and thompson? NO its overpaying.
You fail to realize this will leave us with NO STARTING POWER FORWARD. We cant do it.

Yes the kings have it
1) rubio
2) rondo
So depending on what happens with rubio. The kings will look at rondo (only without thompson / hawes) if rubio is gone.
Well, apparently, Rubio's agent, Fegan, desires for his client to end up with Sacramento.
Jason Levien is the reason why Dan Fegan wants Ricky Rubio to end up in Sacramento. Plus.es
Levien's former clients are now with Fegan. Plus.es

Well the kings DEFINITELY take rubio over rondo. Thats no question.
money wise, and keeping our core + getting rubio is better then losing a key piece and adding rondo
I believe rubio will end up witht he kings BUT IF HE DOESNT then we will look at rondo. BUt not for the 4th pick and thompson.

SACRAMENTO TRADES Udrih, Jason Thompson (or maybe Hawes), Nocioni, Abdur Rahim and the #4 overall pick to BOSTON for Ray Allen, Rondo, and Glen Davis (sign and trade 3 years $15 million.) I believe this is a legal trade salarywise, but a couple of bit parts could be added to make it work.
Like I said from 17 wins to bonefide playoff contendor. That's not happening with the 4th pick of the draft. Davis is your PF -playoff tested. Unfortunately the special talents of Rondo always seem to take a backseat to his talent and game changing ability. I'm not sure why he wouldn't be great in Sacramento, adding instant defense, and toughness to that team. The glass is always 1/2 empty going right back to when 20 teams passed on him in the draft and if that draft were held tomorrow he'd go #3. So now he gets triple-doubles in playoff games and somehow he won't be very good in Sacramento.
Because of Boston's bind of paying $40 million to Pierce and Garnett and figuring what to do with Ray Allen, they may not be able to pay Rondo and/or Big Baby and still fill out a roster going forward. By making a trade with a Sacramento they can get risky but upside talent. Sacramento would probably have to offer a contract starting at $9-11 million per for Rondo but will get an All Star level PG to compete with Paul and Deron Williams. Truthfully I don't think the Celtics would ever go for my proposed trade because of Udrih's contract, so Rondo, Big Baby for Thompson, Rahim and #4 (assuming the Kings really want to keep Nocioni's contract instead of Rahim's expiring.) Kings get the better end of the talent, but Boston gets the #4 pick, presumably as the player to back up Pierce/Ray Allen, and they get a longer big man, who hasn't proven himself in the playoffs like Baby, but who has upside and length. Boston keeps the payroll in check by not having a 4th player over $10 million and also doesn't have to deal with using up the MLE for Baby. The last thing the Kings worry about in such a trade is the talent coming back.

Its about fair value wise. ONe problem is we cant trade rahim he retired last season.
But I would rather have jason thompson at his salary over glenn davis at 5 mil per year.
Thats the deal breaker. Now if it was even salary for both I think i would make the deal. BUt its not so thompson and 4 is to much.

Unless I am mistaken Rahim's salary is still on the books at $6.6 million which is tradeable even if he never plays (Hoopshype.com.) As a fan I'm not an advocate of trading Rondo at all - I'm just looking at it from the Celtics finances from what I've read. In a vacuum I wouldn't trade Davis and Rondo for #4 and Thompson either- the Celtics are giving up too much proven talent. All I know is that if the Celtics are actually moving in this direction, some team may be able to take advantage and greatly improve their team. It just may not work out with the Kings.

Re: Sacramento open to discussing their fourth pick with C's
No, the Kings can't trade Rahim's salary, he's an ASSISTANT coach for the Kings right now (or he was, before Natt was left go). Regardless, Petrie said he will stay part of the Kings organization in some way, so no, we can't trade him if he's working for the Kings.
#4 + Thompson is too much for Rondo. The Kings could easily trade that package for Rubio, who may not be as good as Rondo, but the extra $$$ from marketing Rubio will be worth more than trading for Rondo.

Let's assume for the moment that Rubio is selected before Sacramento picks at four. Is there another point guard in the draft that your team likes? If yes, do you think the front office will attempt to trade down if they know that that second choice will still be available in the middle of the draft?
Is Rondo the only point guard under contract that you supposedly like? Would you target anyone else like Steve Blake or Hinrich, for example?

I think ultimately Rondo will stay with the Celtics. I can't see them trading him unless for various reasons.

NO I think we go rubio, rondo, jennings/holiday. In that order.
but no matter which one of those players we HAVE to keep our core (martin/hawes/thompson) so whatever player we can get and keep the core is better then the others and not keeping the core.
