ever since Byron was cut, i thought that the Falcons should be interested in him, but it makes alot of sense now to start talking to Leftwich after the Jacksonville game.
adding Leftwich would be good as the #1 or #2 QB... but my only concern is that the reason why Jacksonville cut Byron is because he had major problems against the blitz.

^ i don't think that is a good idea... better that the Jacksonville is out of the way, so that the media doesn't make Byron's second week back in the league into a big distraction.
plus, Byron didn't really need to tell the Falcons that much, cause the defense did an okay job on Jacksonville anyway. they also did a good job in the Minnesota game, just allowing 2 touchdowns in 2 games, but i do wish they would get more turnovers though.

It really depends on what type of contract he is seeking. I'm perfectly fine with him signing for the remainder of the season or even stretching it out to a two year deal.
As bad as Left is, I can't stand Chris Redman, and it's not like I trust Joey. Winless battle!

I'm pulling for Leftwich to succeed with the Falcons. My concern is that Atlanta is basically another Jacksonville offensively. Good RBs, suspect OL (as far as pass-blocking is concerned), suspect WRs (at least you have Horn, which is probably equal to Jimmy Smith's last few years in Jacksonville), and a good defense.
You guys better hope that Petrino opens up the offense for Leftwich. I'm not sure he'll really be a "manage the game" type of QB, but ask him to sling the ball downfield (which you have Roddy White for) and I think he can succeed.
I don't think conditioning is that big of a factor either. It's not like he was out for awhile. He took majority of the first string snaps for the Jaguars in practice/OTA/mini-camp and preseason, so he should be in decent shape.
It's going to be learning the offense and getting timing down with the receivers that will be the question mark.
One other thing: better hope your WRs/TEs/RBs catch with their hands, because Leftwich has a live arm. He rarely takes heat off them (even when he should), though he did show signs of doing that in preseason.

We're probably drafting a qb with the top pick next year (hopefully Brohm), so this signing is basically irrelevant. Neither Joey or Byron will be able to do anything with the worst O-line in the NFL and possibly the worst receiving corps. I really think this team needs to go in the tank this year and build around Brohm for the future.

I just wonder how much the Falcons GM is kicking himself right now for dealing Schaub to Houston. I don't think it would have made a huge difference in the win column with as many trouble as the Falcons have right now, but he would me a major upgrade over Harrington or Leftwich.
