Shannon Browns FA Status

Post#1 » by KingLakers » Mon Jun 15, 2009 6:15 am

I was watching the FSN post game show and they put up all the Lakers FA's and they listed Shannon Brown as a restricted FA is this true because if it is that makes it alot easier keeping him.

That's an error. According to the Charlotte Bobcats website they signed him to a deal last offseason. http://www.nba.com/bobcats/sign_shannon ... 80806.html

And doing a quick search it looks like he signed with them as a UFA.

theyve gotta keep him.

reason being is fish will FINALLY pass the torch. and what a great leader fish has been. but he will pass the torch next season, and farmar and brown will be the future guards of this team.

2cents.

4M/2yr seems appropriate

thats a little more than what farmar will earn next year

I don't think we should keep Brown. We need to go after a legit starting PG.

Need to keep Brown. It may be tough though if another club throws a ton of money his way like GS did with Turiaf. It will probably take 2 yr/5-6 mil to keep him.

KEEP

3yrs/9 mil at 2/3/4 with 3rd year a Team Opt.
If he studs out, team will keep that 3rd year, and if he doesn't he has 1 to 3 rings and is an FA at 26 yo and can easily get an NBA backup job or go to Europe.

He's not just the PG, he can also be a Kobe backup. Phil has said he is a SF in a guards body.

Sasha needs to get moved, somehow someway and the Lakers need Shannon and Yue as the very inexpensive backups next year.

I think Brown is a restricted FA I just read an article at SI by Chris Mannix he listed Brown as a restricted FA .If this is true the Lakers offseason just got a little bit easier.

We need to retain him. He will be even a bigger suprise once he gets more playing time, ala Trevor Ariza.

I saw enough to want to keep him. We don't need a traditional guard anyway. He's committed to D and he found his long range touch to go along with a do anything coach wants attitude. I wouldn't overspend for him, but I also don't think he's going to be that big a FA target for teams.

Shannon Brown

Post#15 » by daddyfivestar » Tue Jun 16, 2009 5:35 am

Anyone know his status? Do the Lakers have any rights on him, maybe early bird?

Or is he a true FA and they'll have to use part of the MLE on him if they want to keep him?

edit - I just realized the other Shannon thread... the real question is will they have to use some of their MLE on him... which would affect them trying to get someone else if he snatches a few mil out of it.

knowing that we're going to have money issues with Ariza and LO, shannon brown might be the odd man out since im pretty sure his stocks has gone a little up. He's been great so us. I hope we're able to keep him as well.

Im pretty sure the teams will try to get their roster ready to go against us near year, so having just some minor tweaks should get us up and going again... eh hem sasha. lol

2 million, but I wouldn't be surprised if he takes less.

Maybe a 3 year deal, with a player or team option somewhere in there.

I personally would keep him over Farmar.

Farmar + Adam Morrison = at least $7 million in expiring

So that may be enough to get a additional PG if needed through trade.

If Fisher decides to play one more season and then retire, he his salary can also technically be part of the trade and pull a Brent Barry if the other team is just looking to cut salary,

So again, I'd prefer to see Shannon Brown back as a Laker.
