Our bench really sucked this past season

Post#1 » by cfan79 » Mon Jun 15, 2009 4:36 pm

Baby was the only consistent player off our bench and we had to start him when KG went down. Danny made a mistake signing so many losers instead of getting 1 or 2 real good players. Joe Smith etc would have been better then Mikki Moore. He didn't even look like he deserved to be in the league.

Tony and Eddie are very limited players. One can defend, but seems slow witted and the other shoots well occasionally, but can't defend a chair. Also we signed Marbury a scoring point guard who couldn't score and he may have been the best of this bunch.

Bill Walker and J.R. Giddens didn't get many minutes and I don't understand why. Sure they probably aren't superstars, but they can't be worse then Tony and Eddie.

Exactly, PP and Ray were tired by the 2nd round because our bench stunk so much. As they get older they are going to need more rest then they were given.

Eddie House is not that bad..he was our best player off the bench by far..he's basically the ON switch for the Celtics..when he has a good game we don't lose..and he actually upped his D a bit in the Orlando series...I hope he stays..he's about the only bench player I'm praying stays..but you're right..the rest of the bench is pathetic..with KG back we can move Baby to the bench, and we would have 2 decent guys in the second unit..we still need about 3 more IMO...depends on how Powe and Marbury play next year too...or if they even stay here..

You think Baby will resign with us. That kids pretty full of himself. I remember him saying early on in the season that him and Doc had two different views on what his role is. I say let him walk...well crawl.

IDK really...I think he likes Boston..and he's a good fit for the team backing up KG. I would like it for him to stay.. But If he wants to bounce, than bounce...don't bother me much...he will probably ask for too much money anyways..

As long as Powe is ok, I'd be somewhat ok with letting Baby go, as long as he is only asking for too much money. If we can afford him at a good price, then we better keep him. I am really nervous about what will happen this offseason. The Finals ended last night and I'm already tired of the Ray/Rondo trade talks, the FAs we have who may leave and so on.

I really hope management realizes that if we were healthy, then NO ONE would've beat us and we'd all be happy as crap this morning celebrating a back-to-back championship. All we need, IMO, is two bench players, as long as we keep House, Marbury, Powe and BBD. If we keep those guys, we need just 2 bench players to come in and give Pierce and Perk some good rest time and bench players who can actually perform. Not Mikki Moore-type bench players, more along the lines of PJ Brown-type bench players.

That's true we probably would have repeated. Even with our awful bench. To tell you the truth I don't like any of them except for Baby(who will cost too much) and Bill Walker. I haven't seen enough to form an opinion about J.R. though.

Our bench *was* horrid this season...once it was depleted by injuries, it was exposed for what it was...trash...that one falls squarely on Danny's shoulders...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

A lot of these were low budget signings to see what help we might get. You can't just add up all these contracts and sign more expensive guys. At the vet minimum level, this is what you get.

I thought Sam and Stephon were potentially decent moves that would have worked a lot better if they were made before training camp.

You guys understand we are over the cap and have 3 players making like 60 mil, right? The only decent option was Joe Smith, and he was pretty stuck on going to Cleveland. He only really became available after we went with Mikki Moore, anyway.

Give it a freakin rest. You take the best player AND his backup off of any team and no team's bench would look too good.

and Joe Smith wasn't ever coming here.

When you break it down like that it's quite bad.

I think when you find comfort and happiness in Scal as one of your better bench players, your bench was god awful.

This is why I'm so nervous with all this talk about trades and breaking up the starting five. Danny has done well getting Rondo, Ray and KG, but most his trades and signings have been gawd awful. He's talking about trading Perk? Who the heck is going to defend Dwight Howard!? That would be very bad if Danny trades Perk.

Exactly, we'd have to depend on a rookie center if Amare or KG went down. Our bench has to be better next season though. I don't think its possible to have a worse bench.

I had no beef with how marbury performed. He wasnt anything great, but he had his moments.
