Who is looking to pay Odom, Marion or Artest more then 6mil a year for the next 3 years? Portland will be spending money this summer... who else?

I see smoke - and I think there is fire. From the negative comments from Doc and Danny about Rondo - to the rumours - to the lack of an extension. It all fits. I think the C's want to upgrade and Rondo and Ray are the likely chips.

No it doesn't happen every year. Virtually no buzz in the offseason last year..for example..

I don't really understand what is so confusing, I think that Ray and Rondo would trade themselves for Amare or Wade (I have argued against this but I am just a huge Rondo homer). Because of Rondo's post season stats teams are likely to overvalue him, if anyone thinks he is that good then you need to find someone with the ORL series on DVR. He is not a 17/10/10 player and if someone is ready to buy on those numbers you have to listen, seriously if Sacramento said yes to Thompson or Hawes and #4 at some point you are refusing to sell your house for twice what it is worth because you really like the lawn.

I don't think Boston moves Ray Allen for anything less than a top 10 player, now the question is whether or not that player is available in this draft or not.

If thats what your gm thinks then you guys are going to be stuck with allen. No way does an old ray allen ( even a big expiring) get you a top 10 player this year for sure. Unless you want a amare/shaq type of guy. Other then that your not getting much for him.

And no the kings wont deal thompson or hawes with the 4 pick. We want a fair deal not a rip off deal for rondo.

Let me help you out. Unless Odom, Marion, and Artest re sign wit their teams they are not going to have much of a choice. There are only two teams under the cap DET and OKC and I don't think those three are playing in either of those places.

The problem with this offseason is that isn't simply about what the individual player is worth to you it is also whether or not that player is worth being out of the FA game next year.

Keeping Ray Allen keeps us in the game.

How about Josh Smith? Wiretap headline says Atlanta is looking to get rid of him. They probably would prefer sending him to a team that can absorb salary for the instant saving. With his trade kicker he'd be at ~17 million so I don't know if many teams would be interested for him at that price. A trade centered around Ray's expiring contract may work. However they don't have any bad contracts and we don't have any cheap young talent so I don't know if there's enough incentive for them to do it.
Imagine a lineup of:
Rondo
Pierce
Smoove
Garnett
Perkins
Probably the best defensive starting 5 in the league.

I can't see Atlanta doing that. Allen isn't enough and is repetitive with JJ there.

However, I think they would be willing to trade Smith and their first rounder for Rondo and filler. I imagine them wanting a young player, while also getting out of Smith's contract.

Odom will stay with LA and Artest will stay with Houston. They're key players.

I thought about that but then the problem becomes matching salariesunless you want us to givem them our bench full of expirings. To match salaries maybe somethings like JJ+Smoove for Ray+Rondo works on the trade checker but I don't think that includes Smoove's trade kicker. Again, not sure if Atlanta would go for this.

It actually does include the trade kicker. So Atlanta would likely have to sweeten the offer.

Josh Smith's trade kicker is evenly applied over the life of the contract not all in year one though I do believe it is all paid in year one, it will add between 1 and 1.2 mil to his salary. Ray Allen and Rondo for Smith and JJ does work even with a trade kicker. Can't say I would think any other team in the NBA would make that trade but I could see ATL doing it.

I'll add my 2 cents. I kind of have a hunch there might be some fire to all the smoke we are seeing with Rondo and Ray and maybe even Perk. I am very torn on what I want to see happen. I love Rondo but I think there could be some unseen issues with him. I am also scared for the health of Ray and KG for next season. I think Danny might be pressed to make a trade because if injuries strike again and we get bounced again our window might be closed.

As much as I don't care for Wade, I have a hunch that he s the guy the Celtics want. The last time I had a hunch like this it was for KG and that eventually hapened, for what its worth.

If we do trade Rondo we probably can get a good PG with the MLE that we otherwise could not get. Bibby is not comming here to sit the bench but he probably would to start. I don't really know what to think of Amare though. Maybe a deal can be reached where Ray is bought out and returns. I don't THINK anyone would claim him off waivers.
