My Rant

Post#1 » by Wizardspride » Mon Jun 15, 2009 4:09 pm

I probably shouldn't let this board get me so upset but it does.

Maybe its just me but are the Wizards in general just disrespected on RealGM?

Don't get me wrong, I think we have some weaknesses (like any other team) that need to be adressed but some folks are acting like we have CBA talent or something.

I keep reading how even if we're healthy...we still can't compete with Miami, Atlanta and Chicago...much less the big three (Cleveland, Boston and Orlando.)

If we are as deficient in the talent area as many claim, then why do they keep showing up on this board proposing trades?

Most of which are lopsided trades at that.

Ok...I feel better now. Rant over.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

We're disrepected everywhere... Media outlets trash us at any opportunity, hell even my friends think the Wiz suck...

But TBH, the Wiz pretty much did it to themselves (except for injuries)... Hopefully we can change things under a new coach, new schemes and healthy players...

Trades are sh*tty indeed... Especially the Haywood and Butler trades... wow... It's like we're trading D-Leaguers or something...

In general, the media and non-wizard fans take the punk way out and underestimate the wizards based on the previous year that was destroyed by injuries last year. They did the same the previous year as well. The wizards do not get the benefit of the doubt for anything. And this includes the refs as well. LeBron could join Gilbert in the wiz backcourt with Jamison, Caron and Haywood in the frontcourt and they would say the wizards would be in the running for the 8th seed. They a bunch of kiss-asses

Meh, everyone wants respect so I obviously don't like seeing people thinking we're not on the level of Miami, Atlanta, etc.

But the Wizards haven't exactly done much to disprove the opinion that we're nothing more than a 1st round exit at best.

If we really want to shut these people up, there's only one way to do it - win....win in the regular season....win in the post-season.

Eventually the Wizards will win, and it will mean that much more.

we receive exactly as much respect as a team with the second-worst record in the league deserves. none.

I hate to break it to you, but even when the Wiz were healthy, albeit years ago, they really weren't that good. They peaked as a 45 win team. Jamison is the power forward who is the antithesis of toughness. Butler plays with heart but he's limited in the sense that he's at best an average defender and Arenas hasn't played in forever and who knows how he'll respond to 3 major knee surgeries. They just aren't that good and as soon as EG and staff understand this the better. They deserve no respect. I've followed them my whole life and I'm just trying to find a reason to quit on them, unfortunately it's unlikely I'll ever be able to.

What does annoy me about REALGM is, in this order 1) Knick fans, 2) Portland fans who still think Greg Oden is immortal, and 3) how every trade regarding the Wizards in this board, and on the trade board are just ass-rapings, and they think the Wiz are getting a great deal!

I just hate how people underrate Haywood. Okay he is not Dwight Howard or Yao but I'd take him over most starting Cs.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

I would say the Wizards peaked as a 27-17 in the 06-07 season which I believe is on pace for 50 wins. The turning point, the injuries. First, Antawn Jamison went down with a knee injury and the backups Ruffin and a young Blatche were not up to par. And by the time Jamison came back, the Wizards could not overcome the loss of Arenas and Butler.

Certainly they had a legit to come out of the East. This group of players certainly plays Cleveland tough, maybe 1 more piece whether it be in the draft puts them over Cleveland, whose window could be closing if LeBron leaves. Orlando could have a tough time keeping its core together. Boston is getting a bit older.

I wouldn't go as far to throw Jamison and Butler under the bus. They played with the worst backcourt for most of the season. Heck, a Blatche/McGee/DSong is up their for worst center rotation in the league as well. It'll be interesting to see if these high potential guys like Young, Blatche, McGuire, McGee actually develop into guys you would want in your 8 man rotation.

I can't believe this weak argument! 06-07 was THREE years ago! Every single team in the East has gotten better since then. Dwight Howard didn't exist as superman at that point, Lebron James was deferring to Jeff McGinnis in 06-07, KG wasn't on the Celtic's, and Derrick Rose was in high school. The Wizards have done nothing to improve. I thought EG was the only person in the world who still uses that argument, but I guess there are two people who believe that a team of 3 years ago, that spent 1 week in first place can still amount to something. This team is pathetic, they need a complete overhaul and deserve no respect from anyone.

Lebron James has turned Mo Williams into an all-star, he lead a team with Ben Wallace as the starting PF to the ECF. Paul Pierce helped make big baby look like a top 10 power forward in the playoffs. So what if Jamison and Butler played with a bad cast. Every other 'star' does the same and they make it work and look good doing it. Jamison and Butler were an embarrassment last year. They either quit on the team because the 'young guys weren't good enough' or played strictly for their stats and for no other reason. They deserve to be thrown under the bus because at the end of the day no one expected the Wizards to compete because Andray Blatche and Nick Young. They expected the Wizards to compete because Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler are getting played 10+ mill per year and are "all-stars". The blame doesn't fall on the supporting cast it falls on the players who are supposed to lead the team and help make the supporting cast better.

This is tough, but I agree with most of it. The Wiz in my opinion are an average team when comparing to what other teams in the conference are doing. BOS, even though they are getting older are still a top 2-3 team in the conference Cleveland is still gonna be good until LBJ leaves and Orlando is a legit title contender if they keep Hedo. Not to mention the fact that the Bulls look like a team on the rise, again, and even though some wont like to hear it, watch out for EJ and Phili. This team is and will be great offensively but until they address the defense they will be a 40-45 win team that gets beat up in the first round of the playoffs. Although Haywood is good, he aint Dwight Howard and can't make up for poor defense like Howard does.

I do disagree a bit on Jamison and Butler last year. I don't think it was them who quit, they showed up every night. I agree that they probably could have done better but I think they where probably playing with the most immature supporting cast in the league, not young, but immature. You had guys who showed up 25% of the time and others who didn't know where they where on the court. There only so much a leader can do. There's a huge difference between having talent and being immature and lacking talent and being a professional, look what Houston did to the Lakers in the playoffs with guys like Chuck Hayes, Carl Landry and Luis Scola. Those guys are professionals who came in and showed up night in and night out regardless of there minutes or roles. We had a bunch of young guys who showed up when they wanted too and didn't seem to care half the time, as a leader, or coach, there's only so much you can do. If guys like McGuire Critt are listening to Jamison and Butler and working their butts off, why is it Jamison and Butler's fault when Nick Young, Blatche and McGee decide to be idiots and not show up half the time.
Carl Landry was great whenever he played this season because he showed up night in and night out regardless of his minutes, it could be 10 or 25. He didn't have to be motivated by Yao or Ron Artest to play hard, he just did it because its his job. I could only expect the same from guys like Blatche and Nick Young.
"We kept acquiring projects. Nick is a project. JaVale is a project. Javaris is a project. Eventually when you have enough projects, you live in the 'hood." --Gilbert Arenas

Just have to say about the Bulls; they did make it to the 2nd round in 06-07 and were projected to make a top 5 finish.

Ben Wallace came off the bench for the Cavs this year and I wouldn't consider the Cavs making it to the ECF a major accomplishment being that they played perhaps the two worst teams in the postseason. The only reason Mo Wililams made the all star team was because a) all the top PGs are in the Western Conference and the Eastern Conference is starved for PG talent; more deserving guys who were not pgs deserved to make the team like Vince Carter, Ray Allen, and even Caron Butler B) Jameer Nelson got injured.

Big Baby Davis played well on his own especially when he hit that game winner in game 5. BTW I would not even say Big Baby is a top 10 PF in the playoffs (Dirk, Aldridge, Gasol, Odom, Lewis, Boozer, Millsap, Duncan, Scola, Josh Smith) although he puts in a lot more effort than Andray Blatche. I would say Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and Kendrick Perkins all made him better as they were 4/5ths of the starting five of a championship. The Celtics also looked a lot better because Orlando was choking even back then, they should have put the Celtics away in 5-6 games. While the Bulls/Celtics put on quite a show, neither were championship caliber this season.

I would say Caron quit on this team at some point 20 games into the season but not Jamison. I would also say that the Wizards defense "lack of defense' was due to the fact Brendan Haywood was not making up for the Wizards lack of errors. DeShawn Stevenson also was injured who took the tougher defensive assignment.

So what's the reason to hope you ask? If Gilbert is 100% or anywhere close to it, he is probably the best point guard in the conference. Mike James, was the worst starting point guard in the league last year and BTW I don't even think LeBron could make him better. That's an immediate upgrade to the position. Brendan Haywood greatly upgrades our depth at center. The young guys are a year older and are more ready to contribute. Certainly the Wizards supporting cast (#5 pick, Young, Blatche, McGuire, McGee) has the potential to be better than the one the healthy Arenas/Jamison/Butler/Haywood had before (Ruffin, Hayes).

And the other reasons, not all teams have gotten better. One of the teams that made it to the ECF so many years in a row has fallen off (Detroit). Even Miami isn't as scary without Shaq. If you watched the NBA finals, you would realize that Dwight Howard isn't superman. Plus it's questionable whether they can keep Turkoglu and/or Gortat.

I agree that the Wizards are not going to be championship contenders this season. But they can take steps to becoming one 2-3 years down the line instead of blowing it up. The Memphis Grizzlies essentially traded Pau Gasol because he was a player who wasn't giving 100%.

Return to Washington Wizards
