Josh Smith: Do we want him gone?

Post#1 » by ATL DirtyBird » Tue Jun 16, 2009 2:12 am

Whether the trade rumors are true or not, and im assuming they are, do we want him gone or want him to stay????
I dont know waht to think right now, I dont know what his value is, I dont know what teams are interested, im just confused. I love him at times, but I hate him just as often. I love that it sounds like were gonna be active this summer but I dont want to eff up the franchise.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Chad Ford is usually wrong. Makes me feel better.

Whether it's better for the team or not, things would be a whole lot less interesting/fun/ exciting/ frustrating without him on the team......

I for one would be very sad, regardless of having a better potential team outlook. He has brought so much excitement, highlights, drama, news and rumors. Kinda hope it doesn't happen, although something like Bosh would have to make you kinda happy.

If we trade him AND get back a true center, it would make our team a lot better. However, with not many good centers being on the market, we are better off keeping him.

Joe is the Hawks best player. Josh is the Hawks most important player. if any player on the Hawks is out their is somebody on the beach who can fill in, Josh is the only guy on the team that can't be replaced. if you lose Josh and get Bosh or Amare, then you will have the same situation you had with Bibby last year, the team will score 9 more points, but will give up 9 more points. Smoove is the only guy on the team that stepped up his game in the playoffs the last two years showing heart and passion.

If the team felt that they had to get rid of either Horford or Smith in order to balance the team I would strongly prefer they dump Horford because I think that his trade value is higher even though Smith is the better player.

I don't want Josh Smith to go. He's worked hard and improved every year. Sure he shoots too many 3's, but I think its still an open question as to whether that's his fault, or the Hawks' "system's". He's also the best defender. Unless it brings back a star I'd like to see our frontcourt (Josh, Horford, Marvin) back again, but with better backups.

But it's not only shooting too much 3s, the problem is more deeper by taking bad decision in general, or not being focused enough, I don't know exactly, but continue all season long to keep the ball on fast break while he knows he will lose it most of the time, instead of giving the ball to someone else is one example of something frustrating that the coach can't have said him to do.

Meanwhile, I agree that it would be better to trade Horford than Smith, if we can get more from him, regarding his contract, attitude (or said attitude)...

I would only do a trade for a clearly better situation. A new coach has to be tried before trading any of our core. But it's also clear that a move could be made to better balance the team.

i dont see the hawks getting equal value back in return for smith.

and i see the east being much stronger next year(improvements from young teams and big guys like brand and arenas coming back). So the hawks dont really have the luxory of being able to take a step backwards without sitting in the lottery.

I agree. Although I think Hortford will be the better all around player in the long run, Smith is a more essential component of the team. I would like to see a trade involving Hortford + whatever to bring in a true center if we could snag one of the few that could move.
