Ainge's offer to Memphis for #2 pick

Post#1 » by Celts17Pride » Tue Jun 16, 2009 2:24 am

Mike Felger on Comcast Sportsnet said he heard through the grapevine (i.e. Mark Spears) that Danny Ainge offered Kendrick Perkins and Bill Walker straight up to Memphis for the #2 pick. I guess he would have replaced Perkins in free agency.

That's a bad offer. Memphis has Gasol entrenched at C and him a Perk would not work well together.

I think perk is too valuable...id rather waive bye bye to ray or rondo....but I understand Memphis may not settle on that.....does this suggest we are chasing a free agent centre who can start?

Right....and I suppose Scal would be starting center next year?? wait wait...can someone say Robert Swift?!?! LOL Felger must be on drugs.

This would actually be a nice trade talent wise, but Perk is a big part of what we do, and his contract is great. Say we drafted Thabeet, we would STILL need another bigman.

Other thing is Perkins allows Garnett to be at his best defensively by holding down the paint, i tend to think Rondo is easier to replace then Perk aswell

Mark Spears has his sources with the Celtics. I have no doubt Ainge offered this to Memphis.

Or a 2nd trade using Rondo/Ray to get that Center (Shaq maybe)

Well if we trade Perk for the number 2, that makes it seem like Danny is after Thabeet in the draft. Thabeet would replace Perk.

NBAdraft.net has projected Memphis taking Thabeet even with Gasol, Darko, and Haddadi. It seems that Darko and Gasol aren't considered long term starters at C for Memphis.

Not so fast. He could take the player he wants and sign McDyess, Wallace, Pachulia or whoever with the MLE.

Everybody is talking about what kind of contact that Rondo may get not one person is mentioning Perk. Celtics have an absolute bargain with Perk as he is making 4,250,000 09/10 and $4,390,208 10/11. No way in hell he signs that kind of deal again for the Celtics.

Ainge must realize this and perhaps he is trying to trade Perk away because he is afraid he may lose him in a couple of years? Kefa461 I agree 100% with you. There has to be some sort of 2nd part to this deal for it to make complete sense.
Reggie stood out like a sore thumb no tattoos no agenda no chirping nothing Just a guy who could score at will He played college ball at Northeastern he replaced Larry as Celtics captain he belonged to Boston.
And I still miss him. Even now.

Seems like this would be something where a second shoe would drop. We'd trade for the #2, take Rubio/Thabeet and then make the Ray/Rondo for Amare/Barbosa/#14 trade. If we didn't take Rubio at #2, then we take a point guard here. Otherwise we take a shooting guard or small forward.

I'd hate to lose Perk. He's one of those guys that is signed to a good contract for a bunch of years and always is working at his game. I heard Wyc on the radio tonight talking about Perk leaving a benefit dinner at 10:30pm after he gave his talk, because he was heading to the gym to work out. Wyc really put over Perks maturity and said that the Celtics love to get class guys like Perk.

Could it also be that they are really concerned with his shoulder?

I seem to remember reading or hearing somewhere that while his shoulder issues are not career threatening they are something he will have problems with the rest of his career.

Unfortunately, the #2 sucks this year.

This only happens if Sheed is in the tank. No way we would trade an improving and solid player that fits the system for an unknown unless clearing the decks for a new veteran addition.

This is the type of trade you offer if the Phoenix deal (Ray, Rondo for Amare) is on the table. Then , you give #14 along with Perk and Walker.

You have a potential 2/3 of the next big 3 in Rubio/Evans and Amare.

I like how Ainge is looking to extend the championship window.

That is a terrible deal for Memphis

Am I underrating perk? No, I understand his value for us, but couldn't memphis get a lot more for the number 2 pick.
