Josh Smith for #2 pick. Hawks would save money and get their new Mutumbo. Memphis gets a ticket-seller and don't forget it was Memphis who signed Josh Smith to a contract last year. Plus pf is their biggest need. They already have one young prospect at center in Gasol, they dont need another one when they are fighting for their survival.

Since the Grizzlies offered a deal to Smith last summer, they have to wait a full year to acquire him.
Dumb rule but true.

You're rarely wrong when you bet AGAINST Ford being right. Sounds to me as if it's the time for those outrageous offseason stories the keep fans from forgetting about the NBA.
Would we trade Smoove for a good center? Of course. OR Horford, if that worked out better.
But the Spirit management members know (or they'd better know) that we didn't wait through 5 years of ineptitude just to watch them dismantle a young playoff team. Ticket sales would never rise again because we, the fans, would never trust them again. If they sell off parts of this team to save money, they might as well pack up and let Belkin move the team to Las Vegas.

My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Sekou said smith is headed to las vegas to workout with the usa select team. What this does is it gives coaches and scouts a chance to look at smith in a new system which is not iso dominated. He said when Horford went over there last summer he amazed folks but asked "why doesnt he do that in the nba?"

Of course, this issue wouldn't come up at all if Woodson actually ran some semblance of an offense.
If the Hawks trade anyone, it should be JJ, who's a great player, but is clearly not the star player they need, nor at a position they need. I'd rather they trade JJ for someone like Bosh or Amare in 1-for-1 deals, which wouldn't be a major upgrade in talent, but would provide the Hawks with a better lineup. They would just shift Marvin over to SG, where he might have some difficulty, but would be better than Smoove playing the 4 and Horford playing the 5.

This is the truth. If you trade Smith and not get back as valuable pieces, there will be a huge backlash. As Atlanta fans, we like winning. Braves attendance has been down the last couple of years due to them not winning. The falcons go from sold out games with Vick, to barely any fans with Vick in prison (before Ryan). By trading Smith you are not likely to win many games.

Re: Josh Smith on the move?
Marvin at the 2 is just funny! He's a 6-9 240, long forward. He would get abused by the smaller, quicker 2s out there. I agree with the idea of trading JJ has great potential to give Marvin, Smoove, and Horford a chance to come out of their shells. I just worry that we wouldn't get enough quality talent in return or that Woody would know how to make it work. However, trading Josh creates space for us to move back to a traditional lineup with a true C and Horford at PF. Either that we perhaps get another good shooter at the 3 and move Marvin to the 4. If it weren't that Hedo has so many other holes in his game, I'd say he would be the ideal type of player.

This rumor is just based on a wrong view, we are not in a case where Bibby is at his highest level, young, ... a F.A. searching more money than what he got.
Staying here, or signing with another team, he will have a big pay cut, creating room to keep Marvin ad Zaza.
We absolutely don't need to trade someone in order to keep Bibby.
I would have preferred Diaw+Bell

Marvin would get abused defensively... but offensively he'd be a huge mismatch, being able to shoot over every single 2 in the league. We probably won't get equal talent back, but we should move JJ anyways unless we want to always get taken out in the second round or ECF at best a la the Suns a few years back. Best case scenario would be us trading JJ for some young talent and good picks (REAL talent e.g. Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins, those kinds of players), or we trade him for Bosh/Amare. The young talent/picks scenario (say we get Biedrins and the 5th) would let us run something like Jonny Flynn (or your choice of PG)/Marvin/Josh/Horford/Biedrins, which would be a pretty monstrous team. The Bosh/Amare scenario would let us run PG/Marvin/Josh/Horford/Amare(or Bosh), which would be absolutely ridiculous. Marvin wouldn't even need to be an amazing defender, everyone other than our PG would be 6'9 or taller.
Would Woody know how to make it work? Probably not, but we're not winning this next season anyways, and we didn't extend his contract, so hopefully we can get him out of there for a coach who actually runs an offense.
Trading Josh creates space, but only for the sake of creating space, since we're even less likely than with JJ to get good value. Marvin is too small to play the 4. Really, if Josh worked on his shooting and got mentored by a smart player (Jason Kidd FA pickup would be my dream), and Woody ran a real offense, then he could be like like Lebron, but not quite as good. Still, I'd definitely take that.
In my mind, there is no way we should trade Josh unless we get something incredibly ridiculous and unfeasible.

Re: Josh Smith on the move?
I think the real message in the Ford article was: Woodson is a sorry coach and we don't even know what we have even though the players have been here up to five seasons and when they go somewhere else to play they look so much better........deep breath.......and how the heck can everyperson with alittle NBA and Bball knowledge looks at the Hawks O and says where is the scheme why all the iso's where's the coaching why arn't the Hawks better with so much talent WTF.
How can Woodson remain a NBA coach when it is so plain that he lacks so much of what is necessary to be one there are thousands of potential coaches out there that could run a better O than Woodson and then there are all of the squabbles with his players and the consensus is that the player usually has a point
I'm not necessarily against a trade, just can't accept* that at this time the would weaken the team instead of continuing to move forward. *(wrote believe but had to change it because I can believe the ASG would do it).
how can a business that generates so much money be so mis-managed as to purposely offer an inferior product to save money when we all know that quality sales and $hit doesn't; unless we're being ripped off, but eventually we catch on and abandon the product. Seems like bad business to me.

^That's the thing with Woody. If they want to save even more money, they shouldn't have even extend him to begin with. Just go with one of the assistants because all Woody coaching responsibilities are just ISOs on offense and switch on defense... even a woody woodpecker can do that. Just do nothing but sit on the bench and day dream all game long since he can't game manage either.

Re: Josh Smith on the move?
I think we all know Woody's offense sucks but let's be realistic here. ASG aren't going to spend top $$$ on a proven coach and I sure as hell don't feel comfortable with them hiring an assistant on the cheap.
