With the 52nd pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs would like to select....

Image

Patrick Beverley out of Dnipro, Ukraine.

With the likelihood that Tiaggo Splitter comes over from Europe this season, and the probability that this 2nd round pick wouldn't hold too much immediate impact, the Spurs opt for a player to stash overseas in the interim.

Quoted from http://www.draftexpress.com

Beverley is a guy we’ll probably focus on more heavily when we get a chance to evaluate him at the Reebok EuroCamp in Treviso in two weeks, but he left a nice impression from what we were able to see here. He’s a lanky guard with a skinny frame and a nice wingspan, as well as solid athletic ability. His main virtue lies in his very quick and aggressive first step, which allows him to create his own shot and get into the paint at a good rate. Beverley’s jumper wasn’t falling very consistently from NBA range, but he appears to have the ability to make shots, particularly off the dribble. Defensively he looked pretty focused and intense. Beverley took an interesting route to the NBA draft, as you’ll hear in the interview we conducted with him. The year he spent in the Ukraine obviously helped him mature quite a bit as a person.

Sounds exactly like a Spurs type PG to me.

With their edited pick, the San Antonio Spurs would like to select...

Image

Nando De Colo out of Cholet, France.

from www.draftexpress.com following the Reebok Camp.

De Colo on the other hand was absolutely sensational, showing incredible creativity and court vision with a series of highlight reel caliber passes. In one very telling sequence, he came up with a deflection and then in one single motion jumped in the air and flicked the ball backwards 40 feet down the court to a wide open teammate running in stride for an easy layup. What’s scary is that that might not even have been his most impressive assist. He also made a number of pull-up jumpers from all over the floor, while showing his ability to change speeds and utilize terrific hesitation moves creating his own shot and getting to the rim. What this game didn’t tell us was how well he would fare against the bigger and longer athletes the NBA is known for, or whether he’s capable of defending his position at the next level. Still, it was hard not to come away impressed by just how skilled and talented he is, and there is no question that he helped his draft stock today.

His offensive ability will allow him to find a decent chance to work his way into the rotation. Perhaps working as a combo guard, but one with a chance to excel offensively for the Spurs in the future. If he can perhaps work on his movement, he will become a much better player in the long run. Plus, what a cool name.

NOW the Indiana Pacers are on the clock....

With the 52nd pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Indiana Pacers select....

AHMAD NIVINS, POWER FORWARD, ST. JOSEPH'S

Image

We don't know much about Nivins since St. Joeseph's gets zero national coverage, but he has nice size and was one of the most productive big men in college basketball. He'll be in our summer camp where he can compete against Josh McRoberts for third string power forward.

With the 53rd pick on the 2009 draft, San Antonio selects Jonas Jerebko, SF, International.

Image

A Swede playing for Angelico Biella in the Italian league, Jonas looks like he could be a good fit for the tough defensive minded spurs. He isn't a huge offensive threat (though there is potential for development, but he looks like he could become a solid defence/hustle style reserve 3. We'll bring him into camp, but may leave him for a year or two depending how our other picks go.

With the 54th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Bobcats select...

Jeff Adrien, PF - UConn
Image

To end the draft for us this way with a very good player in Adrien makes us hopeful for playoff berth next season with all the fresh talent on our team. With Adrien you see what you get, a bruiser that will be a great role player in the future that can play with our team. He probably needs to get even stronger to compete with taller players so that he has some advantage over them. Overall this draft has been at least on paper much better than we could have ever hoped for.

With the 55th pick in the 2009 NBA draft, the Portland Trailblazers select Slava Kravtsov, C, Odessa, Ukraine.

Image

Just going for a big guy with some defensive potential here. It's all you really can do this late in the draft.

Portland (Grang33r) is on the clock.

Good luck man, Portland's already drafted an entire team at this point.

With the 56th selection in the draft, the Portland Trail Blazers select forward Henk Norel. We feel this is a good pick, another tall player to go with Kravtsov and with the roster full, there was no sense to adding depth and more then likey seeing the guy get cut. Norel can go back to Europe and play a year or two, while retaining his rights. We feel in a few years he can be a solid player, something to the likes of a Jeff Foster. Also, being a teammates of Ricky Rubio and close friend of his, maybe somehow we can lure Rubio to Portland! lol

Ok, to keep this moving, with the 57th pick, the Suns take PF Jon Brockman, Washington. Brockman is a tough hard-nosed big man who will add interior depth to the Suns.

There's a few ways to go with the Celts, as they will have free agents possibly leaving in all positions except SF. The only problem is that they are nearly at the Luxury Tax threshold right now, so for the 5 possible roster vacancies must be filled with vet players taking the league minimum, and draft picks. Even though this is late in the draft, the Celts need to find help here in a player that can join the roster now.

The player I have in mind is someone who the Celtics have worked out, and would fit the bill of "ready to play". He is a very big PG who is built more like an NFL running back then a NBA point guard (6'2" 215lbs) and had a very solid, productive year.

With the 58th pick in the NBA draft, the Boston Celtics select Jeremy Pargo, PG Gonzaga.

With the 59th pick, the Los Angeles Lakers select Tyrese Rice, PG, Boston College.

Image

Reasoning: The Lakers feel Tyrese is another guard they can use to stretch the floor with his shooting and attack the rim with his quickness. We feel like his quickness will be a nice contrast to Fisher and Farmar, and provide Phil Jackson or whoever coaches with a different look off the bench.

I know we have one pick left, but just wanted to thank those for organizing this, it was real fun. And thanks to all who participated. Obviously it wouldn't have been as fun if not as many people were dedicated enough to participate in this. This was very cool tho.

I'm going to go ahead and finish this off.

With the 60th pick, the Miami Heat select Paul Harris.

Image

Reasoning: With the uncertainty of Jamario Moon returning, Paul Harris gives us a super athletic wing and a willing defender to add to our bench

Thanks PR07! A lot of fun. You are just full of a bunch of stuff (good stuff, not full of a bunch of something like me) during draft time. I love it! I leave Wednesday morning for LA/Vegas, but I will be sure and bring my comp and try and chat during the draft. I will be watching it over gambling in Vegas. One of the best days of the year!
