Looking back to K.G and Gasol Trade Cs fans please join in.

Post#1 » by TonyMontana » Mon Jun 15, 2009 9:12 pm

So here we are, two seasons gone by and I have this question that lingered in my mind up to last years loss in the finals and my answer finally came last night watching our Spaniard hold the Finals throphy in his hands and finally winning his first title.

Who wouldve worked out better between Pau and K.G.
Cs gave away a lot to obtain K.G and even though a lot of none Laker fans claim that we got Pau for nothing, was Pau a much better trade
benefits = Meaning comparing age, position, I.Q, $ contract, chemistry etc.

So did we make the right choice?
Today standing there as the Champions arent you glad that K.Gs deal didnt fall through or could K.G had been a bigger impact for LA than Boston?

By the way I know Cs fan read our threads and posts but they dont reply, but please feel free to share you input as well. Love to hear what you guys think.

honestly, while I would have done anything to improve when KG was being discussed, I was also against him because of how many teammates he's hit in practice & his general bad attitude.

We got a younger player with every tool you could want for so little it has to be Pau.
KG's knee injury was unfortunate, but his season was better remembered for being a punk to Calderon and getting his ass slapped by Odom then punked when Odom was in his grill. Pau is the smarter player, no doubt, and I expect he'll end up with more rings.

KG is one of my favorite players during my time as a fan (since 96'-97').

KG was due, and I supported his release.

Too bad for both parties though... McHale was a Celtic's fan first and decided to deal w/ Boston instead. Bleh. Whatever.

I believed in Pau and I still do. (did an endorsement for him and everything - before he was on cupcake's radar)

Pau was available and Verbal's (insert number of members) shoved the idea down on the FO management's throat until they made this deal happen.

Props to Kobe Bryant for recognizing the Verb and taking care of business.

He got the championship rusty off his shoulders and now he's enjoying the spoils.

I told jah I'd hold it down.

CHA CHING BLING! :football:

KG and Kobe would have made an awesome combo.. but the Spaniard is kicking ass and taking names at a discount for us already - why complain?

Be happy! =]

some reports have kgs injury as slowing him down for good. dont believe until i see it.

however, kgs game and paus game are both the same. and are both tops in the league. can shoot the 15footer. both have a diversified interior post game. just off the charts. but i believe we have the right guy. fits our system. age wise i believe pau is younger. win/win. the difference is, we have a coach who knows how to use his star. when guys are pulled during the season and jax keeps with the rest rotation when it clearly seems he should be kept in for more time, coach doesnt. because the individual will blow a gasket if overused and be rendered useless down the stretch. gasol was primed and ready this last stretch. and i hope we face the celtics next year. i want to beat those punks down.

we definately made the right move. pau is not as good as kg,but he is a better fit here. he compliments kobe to a "T'! i lost alot of respect for kg,e acts like a punk now. i think pierce and his gangbanging friends have gotten to him. oh well,we have a great window, while there is no doubt in my mind that boston's run is over. they got their one every twenty years, and now they are back where they belong,on their way to the dumps...
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

Gasol is perfect for the Lakers. Is a smart and unselfish player, who know his role on the team. Perfect for Phill´s system, perfect to support Kobe and perfect for the city and the team.

Yeah Lakers made the right move not only is Pau perfect for this team but he is younger too (he is 28)
and lets not forget that to get KG the price would have been Bynum and Odom.

even though we won this year, I wouldn't contribute that to Pau being the better trade. IF we had done the KG trade out dept would've been severely hampered, No Bynum, No Odom, NOT even Kwame  , even with Kobe/KG I dont think we would've had enough to get past the West. Also IF neither trade happened, I say Lakers nor Celtics win it but at least Lakers wouldn't have been perenial bottom feeders, Bynum minus injuries would've been more impactful then Jefferson.

Garnett is better than Gasol but considering the importance of the trade you only have to watch how Lakers has changed in this 16 months with Gasol acquisition.

Garnett didn't arrive alone to Celtics, also came Ray Allen, House, Posey,... with great importance at the roster. Even though Gasol was the only addition because Ariza, who came two months before, were injured great part of the season and playoffs and, anyway, we were able to reeach the finals playing against good teams like Spurs or Jazz.

Excuse my english, I´m spanish.

The Lakers got better value for Pau compared to what they would have gave up for KG. And KG chose to come to Boston over LA.. Better team at the time since he knew he'd have Ray and Paul alongside him. Also, Kobe was demanding a trade at the time, so with that situation up in the air, he chose to come to Boston.

Here's something to ponder though - if the Lakers actually completed the deal for KG, then chances are good that Boston probably acquires Pau Gasol. We probably would have traded Al Jefferson and Ratliff's contract to Memphis at that point. Lakers could probably win a title with KG/Kobe. I would have serious doubts about Pierce/Allen/Gasol winning one. KG is the backbone to the Celtic defense.

during the summer of kobe when things practically went nuclear in LA

i know mchail practically giftwrapped KG to the celtics because mitch personally went all in for KG. and im talking ALL-IN. KG for bynum, odom (2yr remaining), kwame (exp), 2 1sts and whatever else they wanted.

heck, i even remember sam presti AND mchail wanting at least rondo be included in return. presti wasnt so fussed because he got the #5 pick. mchail just lay down and accepted al jefferson and 2 1sts for KG

this was the same with larry bird in indiana. he wanted bynum + odom + kwame's exp for jermaine o'neal. mitch wouldnt bite and bird refused to lower his demands.

knowing things the way they turned out, im not overly annoyed at mchail or bird. they pretty much conspired with ainge to hand the boston celtics a 3 year window for a ring.

but with our team now? its a contender until the day kobe cant carry the team on his back

bigons be bigons, we didnt like how the KG trade went down, but in the end, ask "how many people are angry at chris wallace?"

A few things:

-Ainge wanted Robert Swift thrown into the deal with Ray Allen. Presti countered with Rondo instead of West. Ainge turned that down by leaving Robert Swift out of the trade.
-McHale wanted Rondo thrown in too. Ainge was going to walk away from acquiring KG altogether. McHale caved and settled for Telfair.
-Bird did you guys a favor. Had you ended up with JO......oh boy, Kobe Bryant might not even be a Laker anymore. JO is a bum.
-What part of "KG didn't want to play for LA" don't you understand? If Kobe put on a happy face instead of trying to whine his way out of LA, KG might very well have been a Laker.

Watch this clip. Straight from KG's mouth.

I love Pau, but KG to the Lakers would have been a dream for me. As a fan of the Lakers and Wolves, it killed me to see KG go to the celtics then eliminate the Lakers in the finals.

The BEST part of the Gasol trade is that it didnt cost us Odom and Bynum.

Pau for Brown or KG for Odom Bynum Farmar + the picks

WE DID GOOD
Boston traded a decade of being a lottory team for 1 championship... good move but the Lakers traded Kwame a low 1st and a 2nd for Gasol BETTER
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!
