The Nuggets have the 34th pick in this years draft which we acquired from OKC in the Petro trade.

Discuss who the Nuggets should select with this pick in an attempt to upgrade or touch up various spots on the roster.

TWO of these 3:
Danny Green - A solid lockdown defender who can SHOOT. That's exactly what we need... should be able to play the Dahntay Jones role except with a consistent midrange/3pt game.

Jack McClinton - A 24 yo PG with experience who can shoots very well (including 3pt range). Watch youtube clips of him, the way he shoots and consistently nails the shots is what we could use. He can develop PG skills under Billup's wing.

Patrick Mills - i like the way he plays. I heard that the Lakers will not let him past 30 though, so his name should probably be crossed off.

I like the 2nd rounders in this year's draft as they are full of experienced players who should be able to slot in. I'd use OKC's pick on Danny Green, and try to buy another late 2nd rounder to get Jack McClinton.

I get a feeling that we'll draft Sergio Llulz though...

it really all depends on front office plans for me. If Kleiza isn't going to be back then for me its a no brainer to go with Vladimir Dasic. Even if Kleiza will be back he's still at or near the top of my list.

With Weems on the roster I highly doubt the Nuggets go with Danny Green. Jerel McNeal measured in about where I thought he would and has a nice wingspan for only being 6'3 in shoes. I can see him as a combo guard in the NBA. I'm not sure if he is on their radar or not.

I would bet Josh Heytfelt is a big that gets some consideration. Patty Mills would be a great pickup. Would be 100% for it. However he won't be around at 34

I really really love the way McClinton plays. He's an EXCELLENT shooter, and well.... can hit shots which is what we need. There he stops and pulls up for the jumper/pump fake to create for himself... wow. He can develop some PG skills under Billups.

Hearing these rumors that we are trying to get in the 5-12 range, I'd like to see us move somewhere around #20 and draft Eric Maynor. Then I'd like to see us trade Hunter and Hart to either (a) CHAR for Diop and #40, or (b) MILW for Gadzuric and #41. Then with the #40/41, I'd like to see us draft Pendergraph or Heytvelt.

Billups/Maynor/VET MIN (preferably not AC)
JR/DJ/Weems
Melo/LK/Balk
KMart/Bird/Heytvelt or Pendergraph
Nene/Diop or Gadz

I really hope we move up. We are in desperate need of a backup point and this draft is ideal with it's vast expanse of PG's. I like Maynor's game but if we are at 5-12 we gotta look at someone like Brandon Jennings, Johnny Flynn etc. Somebody with a bit of leg speed, something we lacked against LA. Aaron Brooks tore them apart as D-Fish was guarding him for the most part and he just blew right by.

Atlanta is reportedly looking to package the #19 pick along with Speedy Claxton’s contract, in order to clear additional cap room, likely to resign Mike Bibby. 80% of Claxton’s contract (5.2 million) will be picked up by an insurance company, making this a relatively cheap investment for a team with cap room looking to acquire another pick.

I don't know why it brings up the point about Claxton's contract being insured. I know he was hurt, but is he currently hurt and unable to play or something?

Anyways, I think we could do 2 things with this:

(a) Speedy and #19 for TE. Draft Maynor at #19.
(b) Speedy and #19 for Hunter, Hart, and #34 or future 2nd. Draft Maynor at #19, and Pendergraph (or anyone else) at #34.

I'd prefer option B, but not sure ATL wants to take money back. But Hunter's salary cuts over 2 million of their payroll, so basically they'd be saving $2 million to swap players and move down 15 spots in the draft. Option A they'd probably prefer more because they cut almost $6 mil off their books, but they lose a draft pick.

ok I've updated my opinion. Dasic could make a surprisingly good nba player someday, but he's decided to stay in Europe. He is someone to keep an eye on. I have a feeling next year he'll come back and be a first rounder though (depends on his year of course)

Based on who is expected to be around I'd switch my pick to Jonas Jerebko. He did well recently at EuroCamp. Basically a 6'9 combo forward who'd replace Kleiza by year 2. Making the rotation year one would of course be an open question. If he isn't playing the D-League would be great for him coming from Italy.

But depending on what board you believe you are starting to see players all over the board. DraftExpress has DaJuan Summers dropping to the Nuggets. If that is the case... sold. Draft him and don't overpay for Kleiza.

As long as it's McClinton (1st preference) or Green with #34, I'm happy.

He hasn't played much if any for quite a while now, his status is similar to Hunter's on the Nuggets.

If there is no decent point guard or Center available, what about Jodie Meeks from Kentucky?
Plays defense, quick, Versatile and athletic player with great scoring ability...and can play defense too. He is undersized for a shooting guard but he has tremendous work ethic and he would be a good backup to Jr Smith

Jodie Meeks received a guarantee early in the second round, and after verifying with sources, I am now confident that the promise was given by the Denver Nuggets at No. 34.

Many people were wondering why Meeks opted to remain in the NBA Draft after the June 15 withdrawal deadline. He said all along that he needed a first round guarantee to remain in the Draft. While that doesn't seem to be the case, it seems that he was confident enough with an early second round guarantee.

After June 15, Meeks has only worked out for one team: the New Jersey Nets, who only own the No. 11 pick. The reason Meeks may have still opted to participate in that workout is because of the strong possibility that the Nets trade down in the first round to get two picks. The strongest rumor has been that the Nets will trade their No. 11 pick to the Bulls for the No. 16 pick and the No. 26 pick. If this happens, Meeks was auditioning for that No. 26 pick.

This scenario makes sense for the Nuggets. They would like an additional guard to contribute off the bench. The Nuggets like to put up as many points as possible, and Meeks is a player who can definitely light up the scoreboard.

While it's still strange that Meeks stayed in the Draft, especially since he had a chance to be a major part of a Final Four team at Kentucky next season, it appears that Meeks is confident with an early second round promise.

The updated DraftExpress (the best one) now has Patrick Mills drafted at 36... so he's defintely gettable.

I think Meeks is the next Jason Terry... but I like how he can take it to the hole.

Mills brings speed to the table, if he contributes as people expect, he can be as effective as Aaron Brooks (speed clearly troubles Lakers).

Both guys bring different aspects of the game that could help us, as rookies I see Mills helping us more than Meeks would because Karl wouldn't play rookies unless there's a clear advantage (in this case Mills' speed). Since he fell in love with Boykins before, not hard to see why not with Mills.

But Meeks can be very good too... I think people are sleeping on him.

if Summers, Budinger, Claver, Mills, or Ellington are still left on the board and we take Meeks... I won't be happy. Crap we were just talking about Sato... just go sign him and draft the best available.
