Josh Smth for Russell Westbrook & #3

Post#1 » by geeman » Tue Jun 16, 2009 4:40 pm

Guys:

This is the only type of trade I would except if we trade josh for a draft pick. I would even trade a 19 pick to get a young point and a high draft (possible a center). I belive that josh and al play the same position, but we can wait a year or two ( when al's deal is up) to decide on which player will be are PF of the future.

Josh's deal really isn't that much!

I've heard worse, but I do think that we could still get better, more proven talent. Something like Monta + #5

Don't know if works with respect to the cap rules, but Westbrook and the #3 would be a fine offer talent wise. Is Westbrook more a PG or SG? Having said that I don't think OKC gives up that much for Smith.

As for Monta, it would be + #7 because the #5 belongs to Washington and I know that wouldn't work with the cap. Both are BYC making that an impossible match up to do prior to them coming off BYC which is well after the draft.

what about chris kaman?

he's a quality center when healthy + the clippers obviously like smith, since they signed him to that offer sheet last offseason.

i'd say thats a decent swap.
formidable.

I would definitely make that move. But I don't think there is any way in hell OKC trades one of their fine young pieces AND the #3 pick.

There's no chance in hell they would do that.

Agreed.

If you were thinking about doing a trade...Jeff Green would be the only player on their roster that makes sense. They need a center and another guard to put next to Westbrook...they aren't going to trade 3 great assets(westbrook, top 3 pick, and capspace)just to try to figure out a way to play Durant,Green, and Smith at the same time.

I agree, that they would not do this, but that the only kind of trade I like to see!

I don't know that they'd even want to deal Green. He made massive strides last year and showed great potential imo. That team could be really, really good in a few years with their current young core and the no. 3 pick this year.

Westbrook is more of a 2 guard, but under the OKC system he's having success.

all our speculation is getting ridiculous. WE need to shut up and let this play out!
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Actually, I don't mind this speculation as much because it has us getting a lot of talent in return as opposed to the Humphries and pick swap for Josh which would be dumping talent for cap space. Westbrook and the #3 would help us with perimeter D now and land either Rubio or Thabeet for the future (I would have included Harden, but if Westbrook is more of a SG that wouldn't be a good long term strategy). Of course, it is mitigated by it's sheer unlikeliness.

Agreed, but if you go to the Thunder site, you'll find out that they think a great deal of Westbrook. Since this is a 2-man draft, the value's probably right on for Smoove but the OK fans would scream.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

^^ They should think a great deal of Westbrook. He showed signs of greatness last year. I wouldn't want to give up a pick that high as well on top of that.

If it was Jeff Green and #3, would you do it? The thought there being that Green would play the 3 and Marvin would go to the 4 unless we got a C to move Al to the 4. The pick could be Rubio, Harden, or Thabeet depending on how Memphis goes. Marvin at the 4 should stretch the D more (like Rashard Lewis) because of his more reliable outside shot. Not sure why but Green strikes me more as a 3 man than a PF (he's got a pretty good outside stroke).

Josh would probably thrive inside in OKC because of the attention garnered by Durant on the perimeter.
