C's problem with Rondo....Money.....

Post#1 » by Kefa461 » Wed Jun 17, 2009 10:17 am

On Tuesday’s edition of Comcast SportsNet’s Sports Tonight, ESPN Radio’s Ryen Russillo and Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix shed light on the Rajon Rondo trade rumors. Both pointed to same reason for Rondo’s inclusion in offseason talks: Money.

I thought this was a given. Right now we have three max guy and pushing the luxury tax line. Rondo is looking to be in line for a 7-9 million dollar raise that would push our cap number even higher. However, if we stand pat that could somewhat be ameliorated by Ray taking a paycut (he's not worth 20 mill anymore) and some of our other expiring being replaced by cheaper options (Scal and his 3mill). In that sense, it makes sense to shop Ray and Rondo together because if you eliminate the possibility of Rays salary slot going down we'll have trouble keeping Rondo anyways because of the money.
