Rondo has to go
Rondo has great abilities like decision making and driving to the basket, but even though he made the defensive team his defense stinks. No matter who he's playing he cannot guard them on their offensive end. Many times if he's getting 25 his opponents getting it as well. I'd rather have a point guard like Barbosa that his man can't cheat off of as well. Because he cannot shoot.

Rondo does not have to go. This is all about money i beleive, nothing to do with Rondos shooting inablility-- if he's traded its because of money

He makes Perk, KG etc work harder because he can't stay in front of his man. All he does defensively is steal the ball when his man has already passed him. If he's not doing that his man is driving in.

I'd bet that if you went to the comparison's forum and made a thread on who was the best defender between Rondo and Barbosa the answer would be easily Rondo. According to this Rondo was 10th in the league in defensive rating and 3rd in defensive win shares.

A lot of people will look at how many steals he's made and think he's a great defender, but its not true. Defense is much more then steals totals. Ray was double teamed so much in the season and playoffs? Its also another reason we got in foul trouble. Perk is forced to take Rondo's man who burns passed him.

I agree with cfan79. Rondo is a liability in defends and the big guys have to pay for his stupidity. Even the TV commentors see this.

Thank you, I was the only one who would admit that Marcus Banks sucked too. I remember mentioning how he couldn't guard Indy's point guards in the playoffs a few yrs back. All the people with their greenglasses wouldn't see the truth back then too.

Re: Rondo has to go
Let's not get carried away. Rondo is a good player - and other PGs get burned just as much if not more. He defends well, he passes well and he has a great handle. He has awesome speed and athleticism. He has great length. His shooting is his only weakness. If he shot normally he would be a perenially all-star. The reason the C's are looking at moving him is because his agent wants 10-12 million a year. He is nothing like Marcus Banks..
Banks was an undersized SG with good speed and a good handle. But he had the decision making ability of Eddie House and the work ethic of Tim Thomas..

Re: Rondo has to go
Rondo is without question the best 21 year old defender I have ever seen. Lebron was such a bad defender at that age - maybe one of the worst defenders at his position at that time and now he is awesome.
Rondo is a difference maker defensively. He is ridiculously disruptive. LIke most guys in the NBA he is at a disadvantage defensively every night in the NBA. Like most 21 year olds his man to man defense and team defense is a shadow of what it will be. Like most undersized guys he can get abused in the post.
But have you ever seen a better rebounding PG? Was Fat Lever better - I don't think so when you consider how much more athletic the NBA is today. Great defensive rebounders do more for team defense than lock down man to man defenders in my opinion because controlling the glass and limiting second shots is a must.
Sorry Pete, but I think you are off base with this criticism. Rondo still may have to go.... but not because of his defense. His contract demands combined with an anemic jump shot may be his ticket out of town. And also the chance to grab a true superstar in 2010.

"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Sam, while you are right about how Rondo's defensive rebounding adds to the allure of his defensive capabilities but the kid is 23 not 21.

Re: Rondo has to go
The trade Rondo stuff just slays me. You really can't trade him this year because his salary is so low. And how many PGs (long term) would people rather have right now? Paul, Williams?
I guess most people on this board still thinks Rondo is a confused rookie. Never won a championship or even elevated his game in the playoffs. Yeah the kid sucks trade him ASAP.

Re: Rondo has to go
Barbosa isn't a better defender than Rondo. I do agree with cfan in that Rondo takes to many gambles and the bigs (especially Perk) pay the price with fouls.
Rondo's shooting is a problem. If you can't shoot free throws at better than a 65% clip the chances of you ever becoming a consistent shooter are slim to none.
I think Rondo's tendency to disappear in games is an issue as well. The playoffs were a great example. In the Chicago series he was the aggressor and it was amazing what he was doing. Then in the Orlando series **** Rafer Alston, and Anthony **** Johnson played better than Rondo. Do you know how friggin insane that is.
And know he wants big money supposedly???????????

Offseason drivel!
You want to break up the Celtics ...Why?
Because they didn't give you two championships in a row?
Sit back and think a little bit...cfan?... of just how hard that is to do today?... with all the parity in the league....cap concerns @ free agentcy etc.
Remember when we won less than 20 games just a few years ago?
I just can't see what all this impatience is all about? or is it just boredom from winning?
I swear this younger computerized generation are devoid of brains...thanks to all the split second reaction video games you all play....
Some of you guys are all about instant gratification....
It's surprising your girlfriends don't throw you all out on your ear for not having the ability to control yourself long enough to satisfy them!
A little patience please!... We have Rondo for another year yet...deal with issues when you must but dont dismantle a winner just cause you are bored or you just can't wait for the flower to bloom...
All these trades make little or no sence to me whatsoever.....
You would think there would be something better to talk about?

TENBOMBER-
I understand why you would think this because just a couple of years ago seems so long ago. We need to appreciate this team and keep it together no matter what. Even if that means becoming the East's version of the SA Spurs. Winning in the regular season then just bowing out in the second round. We're already there. If KG was healthy and we won it again this year it would of been a lot harder, but I bet Danny would of played these cards the same way. Ray Allen's contract is expiring and Rondo's value is at an all time high.

Re: Rondo has to go
Sam makes some outstanding points in defense of Rondo. The thing with this kid is you have to compare him to other PGs at this age. In reality, he is better statistically than Gary Payton and close to doing what Kidd did when he entered the league.
The ONLY reason you think about trading the kid now is if you can get better talent for the long term (i.e. Amare AND Barbosa). That said, I am soooo pumped to see Rondo on the court with a healthy KG to start next season. He has improved his shooting and confidence quite a bit over the last two years and we are approaching a tipping point where just a few % points at the FT line and willingness to take 2-3 threes a game (making 33-35%) opens up the entire floor for Rondo. Once that happens, look out!

Trading Rondo would be thew worst mistake this franchise has made since trading Billups halfway through his rookie season.
