Downs update: x-rays negative, MRI pending

Following the game, X-rays of Downs' foot came back negative, and he is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam on Wednesday. There is a realistic chance Downs will wind up on the disabled list, reviving Gaston's argument that American League teams, which use the designated hitter, are at a disadvantage in Interleague Play.

Brad Mills is being called up for Thursday's start to take Janssen's place, according to Ken Rosenthal. Downs is probably going on the DL to make room.

Scratch the Downs speculation, Janssen is going on the DL with shoulder inflammation. Downs could be next, though.

Aw man you got my hopes up. For a minute there I thought that they were going to move Janssen back into the bully.

So here's a thought: if Downs goes down, do we finally get to see an Accardo?

Probably. His peripherals are quite good right now, too.

Is Accardo properly healthy and back in form, then? He was pretty good a few years ago.

According to Richard Grififn, his blog suggested that Accardo may be back

Accardo has been 100% healthy since late last season. For a while the story on him was that he couldn't get his best pitch (the splitter) back to where it was pre-injury.
