Amare for Green, Watson and Atkins

Post#1 » by wiff » Mon Jun 15, 2009 4:00 am

So this trade is with the premise that Amare will waive his player option in his contract and will be under contract for the next two years.

Other wise I don't see the Thunder giving up Green for simply a one year rental but for two years I think OKC might take the gamble.

So OKC trades
Jeff Green 3.5mil
Earl Watson 6.6mil expiring
Chucky Atkins 3.48mil expiring (only 20% is guaranteed so the Suns could cut him immediately and save money)

For

Amare 16.3mil

I figure this is a low ball offer for Amare but at the same time I don't see the Thunder throwing in a pick along with Jeff Green when there is a very real possibility that Amare may bolt after year two.

Also this gives the Suns a very inexpensive building block. And some immediate cap relief and some more cap relief after the year is done.

And when it comes right down to it I think it's a better offer than what the Lakers gave up for Gasol.

Plus it looks like the Suns are "selling" so I don't think they will get the best return in value.

I like Amare as a player, but I don't think that he would skip his chance to enter free agency next off season. I think that LeBron, Wade, Amare, Bosh, etc. are as excited about what is going to happen next summer as we fans are. And with that being said, I don't think that we should make a trade with Green in it for a guy that will probably be gone in a year.

I wouldn't trade Green for a years rental in Amare either. The premise behind the trade was that Amare waived his player option and therefore would be under contract for two years not one.

PG Westbrook
SG #3 Harden
SF Durant
PF Amare
C Krystic

Bench
Thabo, Collison, Weaver, DJ White, Livvy, Ibaka, #25(Mills?), last but not least Wilkins!

With that premise, I don't think I would do it, because I don't know if Durant and Westbrook (and especially Westbrook) are ready to make a deep run into the playoffs. Amare would be the type of piece, like a Gasol and Garnett, that you make a trade for when you are ready to play for championships. I don't think that the rest of the team is ready for that step yet. If Durant and Westbrook were older, absolutely.

With all the red flags with Amare and as long as Amare waived his player option the best offer Id do is Collison,Watson,DJ White,K Weaver and this years 25 pick.

OKC add Amare and can still draft either Thabeet,Harden or Rubio.

Suns add two young prospects in Weaver and White,an expiring , a good solid PF/C In Collison and this years 25th pick to add another young talent(Budinger,Ellington,Mills,Lawal,Maynor).

Hell I'd do it in a second (under the mentioned premise)

Amare is still young, and while the Thunder may not be ready this year for a deep run, that team would cartainly make the Playoff IMO. giving them experience for the following year. Durant would be a 4th year player and Westbrook a 3rd. With a year of payoff experience. That team would be tough. Amare inside, Durant outside and Westbrook slashing etc.

If PHX comes calling I'd do it. The only thing I wonder about is if Amare can share "the Man" title on the team? Durant can I am sure, but he's to good to simply take a backseat to Amare - can he share?

there is no way okc acquires amare without giving up a pick.

obviously this trade is an easy yes, but phoenix would not do it.

I don't get how anyone can say they wouldn't do this trade. Its freaking Jeff Green for Amare Stoudamire

Actually I think the most realistic offer from OKC is to simply hang on to Green and the #3 and try to land Amare via free agency.

Other than the fact the OKC is located in OKC they would be the most desirable location for a free agent that is looking to win, and win for a long time.

PG Westbrook
SG Harden
SF Durant
PF Amare
C Krystic

Bench: Jeff Green, Thabo, Collison, Weaver, DJ White, Livingston, #25, 2010 OKC pick, 2010 PHX pick and Serge Ibaka.

That is a stacked roster, that is young. You have a legitimate superstar in Durant with two potential All-Stars with Westbrook and Green. Obviously Harden has a polished game.

They will have enough money to offer a guy like Amare the max if they feel like it.

I think the chance of us getting either one in Free Agency is pretty low, but I would definitely say that Bosh would be a more desirable target than Amare at this point (mainly taking into account age/injuries).

Sure I can see Amare's history of injuries being a red flag, but as far as games are concerned I think his would fit better than Bosh's. Amare plays closer to the hoop.

I agree with the chance of either one actually signing are slim to none. But the one thing OKC will having going for it, is a stacked young roster who should start to win more games starting next year.

I do think they have a chance to make the 8th seed next year.

I don't think New Orleans will make the playoffs because I have a feeling some of their off season moves will be solely based around cap relief. I see the Suns blowing it up. You hear the Shaq and Amare rumors.

That leaves Sactown, Clippers, Grizzlies, T-Wolves, Warriors.

At this point it's hard to imagine any of these teams make a significant jump in this years draft.

Does anyone really have faith in the Clippers to actually make the playoffs even with Blake Griffin?

T-Wolves have Love and Al Jeff but not much of a back court to speak of.

Grizzlies are ok but who knows which way they go in the draft, Thabeet? Rubio? Either way I don't see these guys making a huge impact their rookie year.

Sactown is just bad, they have a couple nice young players who are mostly role players at this point. And Kevin Martin a nice second option on a deep playoff team.

And the Warriors who are kind of a coin toss, they have talented players, a whacky coach, and consistent drama. My guess is they find home in the lottery next year.

Plus the Jazz were the 8th seed but they are going to be having a crazy off season with their free agents so who knows what their team will look like but I have a feeling Boozer won't be there.

I only see Durant and company making large strides in improvement. I really think they have a chance to make that 8th seed.

Amare is horrible on the defensive end. I can't see Presti being interested.

You guys realize that Bosh grew up a couple of hours away, right? Having him re-sign is not as unlikely as you think

Yeah, Amar'e would probably bolt but Bosh could definitely re-sign. MUCH brighter future than Toronto has since he'd be paired with Durant, grew up not too far away, and with the right moves the Thunder could potentially make it to the second round as early as next year. While he's probably thinking Toronto, Miami, NY/Cavs (only if James goes) right now, I'm sure a year in Oklahoma would have him toot'n Durant's horn.

You guys do realize that you would then have to sign either Amare or Bosh to a max extension? Amare is more worthy of that sort of money because he has been the first option on a championship caliber team. I don't think that Bosh could be the best player on championship team and is better suited as the sidekick. Amare has already shown that he doesn't want to play defense and rarely wants to rebound, so is he going to be more motivated with a gigantic contract? And beyond that, what does giving a max contract to a free agent do to our ability to keep Durant, Westbrook, and Green? We going to have to max out KD and Westbrook and Green are probably going to be the neighborhood of 11-13 mil each.

In free agency, I would agree. If you can get Bosh here early though, I have a hard time seeing him not believe in the Durant hype. Durant could easily be a top five player in the NBA next season. I think Bosh would be happy to sign. Can't see the Raps getting excited over just Green and cap space, but might as well throw the offer out there.
